Although its a nice resort but it's very far from everything & on top of that beach is HORRIBLE! Also the room we stayed in was very damp & moist especially the bed. We had to put towels on the bed to sleep. I don't know if all the rooms were like that or just our room. Other than that pools were v nice. Restaurants were ok.

I initially wrote a review of Palmar when we had issues with rooms assigned to family members. I have not written more than one or two reviews here and did not realize how permanent that review was and that I cannot edit it or comment on it.

So...correction: the hotel the rest of the family is in is L'Arco, not Palmar. They are now happy with the room situation. All of our rooms at both hotels are very nice, bigger than expected. Great view of ocean and pool from our rooms at PalMar. Staff is great, including the staff who assist with excursions.

We are glad to be in this location and consider it a wonderful value.

Room Tip: Pool side is best but if you go to bed early and are concerned about hearing the sound of music and...

Stayed for 1 week in a 2 bedroom suite.
Room: Looks beautiful, but the couch and rugs had stains on them. When the patio door is open, it created a wind tunnel and the front door whistled. We notified the staff and they attempted to fix it, but it still whistled a little bit. The water smells funny. Almost a salty smell. I always felt sticky. Not sure if it was due to the humidity of being close to the ocean, but don't remember that feeling the last time I stayed in Cancun. I liked having the kitchen, but didn't buy groceries or anything.
Resort: Beautiful resort, but they are still doing construction. They had drills going on at 6am! So much for sleeping in. The pools are great. Plenty of room for everyone. There are two big "everybody" pools, 1 kid pool and 1 adult only pool. It is good that there are enough pools because the ocean is not clean enough to swim in. There was a lot of seaweed. The staff informed us that they are planning on expanding the beach and cleaning up the seaweed. The resort is still under a "soft" opening. So they are still working on the resort. Everything outside closes at 8pm. Good luck finding towels after 8pm. There are 4 restaurants. Not all of them are open every day. The food was good, but nothing too exceptional.
Service: One word ... slow. But not sure if it is just a difference in the pace of life there compared to what I am used to stateside. Very friendly, though. Met some fun people.
Addln comments: At checkout, they provided a report of gratuities ... it was optional to tip staff that you cannot tip directly (e.g. lawn workers, cooks). I was shocked at that, but it was only $5 per day - so I said ok.
I liked how they had a "travel agent" on site, but isn't that the same thing as concierge service?
The spa is all outdoors. Who wants a massage with sandy feet, exposed for people around the pool to watch you? Also when it is hot outside - I don't want to be hot and muggy while getting a massage.
You are far away from hotel row. There is nothing within walking distance from the hotel. Doing anything off the resort requires a taxi.

Room Tip: Ask for a free upgrade. They are very interested in selling their timeshares and doesn't hurt to...

We read nearly every review of this resort before going, and I have to admit I was a little nervous. I will start out by saying that we made arrangements through Cancun5starluxury.com and knew we would have to do the vacation presentation, so no big deal. The booking agent did completely mislead us on what was included in the “all inclusive” stay. We found through the resort that ala cartes were limited as to frequency and restaurant, no room service or minibar was included and that the suite described in the ad was in actuality a studio. That said, it didn’t really impact our stay at all, and the resort was very clear about the package and seemed concerned that I felt conned.

We met with Claudia the concierge and she went through our package details and told us since there were not enough people to warrant having the buffet open, we would be eating in the ala carte restaurants each night! Yeah! She scheduled our presentation and gave us a map and told us to go enjoy lunch.

STAFF: The staff at this resort elevated our stay from really good to spectacular! Big shout out to Martin at Zama, Jorje at Divino, and Carlos and Oliver at the pool! As I said I read all the reviews and don’t understand the negative comments about the staff; everyone we came within feet of smiled and said Hola! We didn’t participate in any activities, but staff politely asked if we wanted to, not pushy at all. We tipped and we felt the staff deserved it; we didn’t feel as though they expected tips; we thought they worked their tails off to make sure we had a great time.

ROOM: We were upgraded to the one bedroom suite, which in reality is like a condo! It was huge, and the washer and dryer were a big convenience. The bed was so comfortable! We knew we weren’t getting room service and only 1 coffee set up, so brought instant coffee and creamer and sugar, thanks TA! It was so nice to read on the patio and have coffee watching the sun rise. Not having the mini bar was no prob, we just asked for water at the bars and with each drink and smuggled a few in the beach bag for the fridge! We did have that sulfer-smelly shower one of our days.

DRINKS: We found some of the drinks differed; Bloody Mary not so good, Miami Vice spectacular at Zama/so so at snack bar, and margaritas at Carsona’s, Divino, and at the lobby bar were the best. I didn’t feel drinks were watered down. If you want really cold beer get a Corona Light. They serve it ice cold in the can. Swing bar was cute, but crowd very young there.

FOOD: Food was very good, My favorites of the week: Molcajete, and hand made Guacamole show at Zama, Grilled Octopus, Shrimp and Feta, Sea Bass and Filet at Divino, Cerviche, Goat Cheese Salad and Coconut Shrimp at the Snack Bar, Huevos Rancheros and Chilaquilla in Davinos for breakfast. Desserts were fair; this would be the only area food-wise I would improve on.

POOLS: WOW! Loved them. Used the big pool with the towers every day. Few people use this pool, the infinity pool was busy and the main pool with activities was fairly busy, but we often had this pool to ourselves. Service was a little slower because everyone at the other pools kept staff hopping, so we ordered our drinks 2 at a time!

BEACH: I have to say that my husband and I are pool people, not beach people, so the beach at this resort was not an issue for us. That said, there is a ton of seaweed and the water is murky. The staff work hard at raking up all that seaweed, the sand is pretty and soft! Slow ferry kinda unsightly. There are plans to improve the beach, but it will take a while.

PRESENTATION: Mark was very personable and knowledgeable, the big suites were spectacular. We were expecting a hard sell and had read that these can become quite nasty, that was not our experience. We spent about 2 hours total, and found it interesting, but it didn’t meet our vacation needs.

We had a great time. We didn’t come to get wild and party all night. We chose someplace small and quiet for relaxation. We caught the Collectivo (6 pesos/person) across the street from main entrance (flag them down) to both EL Mecco, a small Mayan Ruin and to Puerto Juarez where you catch the ferry to Isla. Rented a golf cart and snorkeled at EL Castillo del Garrafon, just before the park. $5 includes beach chair, umbrella and changing rooms. Very pretty, water was rough when we were there. Drove around and went to Centro area to score some souvenirs. Stayed on resort nearly the entire time we were there and enjoyed it immensely.

This is a 4.0 hotel rate. Good food, good customer service. I rate this hotel 4 because you can hear your next door neighbor noise (when they did their laundry, when they ordered food, pushed tables around and loud talking. Plus, even know the beach is attractive, you can not swim because the water is duty.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have better view.

We just got back from our 5 day 4 night trip from Villa Del Palmar Cancun Wednesday. First let’s talk about the Pro’s. The property was beautiful and very clean in every aspect. The staff was so friendly even when some guest where being complete jerks.
Okay now the Con’s. It’s sad but the resort shuts down at 10:50pm. No bar, no restaurants, no entertainment at all, just the pool. The food is just ok. We loved the breakfast but the lunch and dinner was a hit or miss. It was not nasty but it was not 5 star quality. The bar drinks are very weak. You have to ask over and over for extra shots and if u are a beer drinker get ready for two beers. Corona and Pacifico is the only beer unless you take a 25 minute ride to town by bus or taxi. FYI the taxi drivers make up prices for rides because the cars have no meters. Also Just like some of the older reviews said the beach SUCKS. The sand is nice but when u get in the beautiful blue water you will be walking in a lot of sea weed. I will go back if I receive another big discount on a trip like we had last week just because all of the Con’s can be fixed. The place is not bad, it’s new and need to be tweaked. So Don’t let some of the reviews run you off, just remember to go in with your eyes open and expect some faults and then you want get pissed when something comes up that is not up to your standards.
More FYI’s take copy’s of all your paper work from hotel stuff to free taxi/bus rides. Take a pin and calculator for the conversion of Peso to US Dollar. Mosquito spray is a must. Most of the good excursions are ALL DAY but they come with food and drinks, so plan your days carefully. One of the best night excursions is the Captain Hook Cancun ship ride. It’s a must do! All and all Villa Del Palmar Cancun is a cool place just not worth the full price. Maybe in two years or so it will be better so go with a coupon and have fun.

Was at this resort last September. One of the best AI we have been to. Bars are fun, food is great, rooms are VERY clean. Elbert is an awesome bartender, can't wait to see him again. We are now going back in a few months. This will be our 3rd visit to this resort.
