This is a new resort for the Villa group beautiful! Great pool! great beach. No fighting for chairs! The restaurants are great as well as the bars!. Very relaxing! The rooms were Awesome ! Close to the boat dock togo over to the Island. Only downside is that it is far away from Downtown. But if you want a very relaxing vacation this is it!

Room Tip: All rooms are ocean views. But off of the ground floor is better.

My husband was offered a promotional stay at this place and the broker made it sound like paradise........all for 598.00! It was not the greatest experience for us. The room was small, and mostly beds with all these pillows that had to be placed on the one chair in the room! Not even a table! If one wanted to sit and watch TV, you sat on the bed! If you wanted room service, you ate your food while sitting on the bed etc.! There was a small balcony but way too windy to sit outside. Restaurants were good and we had meals and beverages included but one had to walk outside to all the eating places and only one was actually enclosed. We ate at "reservations only" restaurant for dinner one night and found that we made three selections before finding something that was available to order. Place was new and clean but sometimes it would be 5:00 before your room was done. Construction was still going on. The sales presentation was by a "newbie" who had to be joined by a pro and it took 3 hrs! It was a "hard sell" and went on until we started listing the negatives which they did not wish to hear. They need more experienced people........it didn't seem that anyone at the front desk knew what the other one was doing. Language proved to be a problem. Location is off the beaten path so taxis are a must. We went for relaxation which was good thing as I don't think we would have wanted to have spent the money on the local attractions.......way too expensive. We do not plan to go back and wish to advise those who plan to go to check your charge cards everyday for "recent activity" and to make and keep with you a copy of your confirmation letter which states what you are to receive in your package.

Room Tip: Go for room which is above 3rd floor for view of ocean. Also, try and get something that is more than one bedroom such as bed/sitting room.

My wife and I just returned from a 5 night AI visit to VDP (including offer to purchase membership tour). This place is a good size, bright and new, the rooms are beautiful, 5 pools to choose from, lots of hard working staff everywhere and the food was great. A buffet and two a la cartes were available(3rd restaurant-japanese- to open soon). We had a la cartes every night for dinner, one a mexican and the other meditteranean, food was great. Mexican cheese fondue kinda thing was awesome, entire grilled octopus appy was delicious too(meal in itself). Restaurant and bar staff were great and helpful always there to get you another drink by the pool(tips appreciated of course). Lets face it, call it a timeshare tour, was actually pretty relaxed and not hi pressure like i thought it would be. The roof top units are awesome. The ferry over to the Island is only $3.50 and right beside the resort(maybe too close). The island(Isla. Mujeres) was fun, rented a golf cart for the day($45) drove the perimeter roads with some neat things along the way(south point and sea turtle sanctuary). Beach at north end is awesome, lots of shops and restaurants as well, chimbo's on the beach was great for lunch and they park your golf cart for you. We took the faster ferry to puerto Jaurez on the way($7/person) back instead of the slower car ferry. Then a 5 min cab ride to the hotel($13), the cabs seem pricey($50 hotel to airport) but the more local collectivo bus runs every 10 min and its a US dollar for 2 people. El Meco is a smaller mayan ruins site about 2km south of the resort near the beach and kinda interesting for 42 pesos entrance fee if you want to kill an hour or so.We had the tour guy from the beach find us a boat for 1/2 a day so we could go reef snorkling, see the underwater museum and swim at the beach on the island. We paid him $165 but had the boat to ourselves and saw lots of fish, sea turtles, the museum(scores of statutes placed on the bottom about 25 ft down) Bring bread for the fish and beer for yourselves. It was windy while we were there so the waves were higher than normal. This affected the beach at the resort, lots of weeds washing in and kept the tractor guy very busy. The beach was nice above the water line, lots of soft sand but the water itself was churned up, weeds & debris coming in and the bottom was not sandy at all, more rocks and low weeds. Not a good sandy beach for swimming. We were told the last thing they do is the beach and they are just starting phase 2 of 3. Apparently phase 2 building will be done in under 2 yrs but after watching them for 5 min. work on the construction site I'm thinking 2yrs is wishful thinking, one day a dump truck fell into a huge hole on the work site. If your in building 2 you might hear the construction machines but only if you hang around your room during the day. Theres a store on site and a courtesy desktop with internet at the main hotel desk. The bars have a very good selection of beverages, new straw every time, high end liquers are extra like usual. No entertainment staff by the pool on loudspeakers trying to get everyone involved in the "crazy" game. Low key that way some pool and beach volleyball thats about it. The waterworks bridge in the family pool is neat, shakes off the next day tequila effect, kind of like a free hydro massage. The spa prices seemed high for the services offered(no fish foot spa offered). The night life was low key, mariachi band one night with the wind blowing their sombreros off, DJ music on 3 nights near the beach over however by 11pm or so(they take requests). The musicians in the restaurants were very good. This place is miles north of the hotel zone nightlife and everything that goes with it but if you want, a cab will take you. It was a very relaxing getaway overall lots of great aspects about this place, did I say awesome service already. Lots of families there so dont think its an adult only oriented place, there were 7yr olds whining in the a la cartes at 9pm and same kid dancing to the DJ music at 11 wound up on soda pop.?!? I mean OMG really. Theme nights for dinner occur weekly. You can go here as we did on a discounted AI with timeshare tour, AI booked normally, or as a condo. owner with option to go AI for $80/day per person. Oh yeah last thing, they keep track of everything here so you will be asked for your room number minimum of 10X per day, this gives them your name so they call you by name at that point and then after eating or sitting at the bar they present you with a bill itemizing everything and the $ amount. Dont freak out you dont have to pay them they just want your signature. We always left a cash tip and stroked out the tip portion on the bill so another tip didnt get added later by anyone. It was funny to see others reacting to these bills for the 1st time. This brings this novella to a close we spent 3 days in South beach Miami after leaving Cancun which was an entirely different experience altogether.

Room Tip: rooms in building 1 are quieter. Mattresses are foam toppers and hold body heat in, not good if sunburnt. Be patient and ask nicely for a last minute room upgrade. Place has lots of unused space

After reading some of the negative reviews, I wasn't sure what to expect. However, as another traveler pointed out, if you are a hard-to-please person, then this hotel (and maybe not any other hotel) is not right for you. It's true that it is rather new and there are still some kinks to work out but, overall, the property and the service were amazing. I came with my friend who owns a corporate interior designer business and she commented several times on the quality of the materials used in the rooms and throughout the hotel. Yes, some of the service was spotty but you could experience that anywhere. Most of the time, the people who served us were above par and we were glad to tip them very well, especially because these servers make next to nothing to live on from the hotel.

When we were checking into the hotel, Blanca, one of the concierges, gave us helpful information about the layout of the property among other things. She was very nice and approachable throughout our stay.

Around the pool/beach areas, Norma, Katia and Oscar went out of their way to do a great job for us. In fact, we liked their service so much that we organized where we would sit around what sections one of them would have. We were never waiting long for anything.

In the entertainment area, this was touch-and-go as far as getting help. This area hands out the towels in the mornings and could also give you helpful tips on fun things to do either on the property or around the area. David, the supervisor, was not exactly what I would describe as on-par with either the training of his staff or of doing his own job well. That being said, Alex, one of the ladies who works in this section, was wonderful. We did water aerobics with her and came away feeling great and laughing. Alejandro also works in this section and unfortunately I found him to be way too forward and suggestive with some of his comments.

The entertainment staff also has the ability to organize group trips to the clubs at night. For $60 a person plus a $10 tip to the club service, you get a ride to/from the club, your cover charge and all of your drinks covered. I am sure that initially this was a great idea because it does help to cut the costs of going to the clubs plus it is safer to go with a group; however, David and one of the other entertainment staff members, Alejandro, took things a little too far with other hotel guests on each of the two occasions that I went. Unfortunately, for David, one of those times was with my friend and not only did he go too far but, when she didn't reciprocate, he left us stranded in the Hotel Zone at 3:30 in the morning! Not cool! As far as I was told from the senior-level hotel management, not only would the hotel no longer allow their staff to offer club trips any longer but there would be repercussions of some sort against these two employees. It was an unfortunate situation but it didn't leave a bad taste in my mouth simply because of how well the hotel staff seemed to handle the situation so well and they made sure we got our taxi cab fare credited to our bill. Plus, there were so many other positives to our trip that the good outweighed the bad.

One of the other positives was Alberto. He is the manager in the small market that is in front of the hotel. He recommended a Mexican wine that fit our taste so well that I intend on finding out if I can get that same wine in my area. He also was great with some local travel tips.

In conclusion, I would definitely come back with my husband next time and I would recommend this place to others. I don't think I would bring my children here though because there isn't too much available to cater to very young children or older children either. It's a very relaxing atmosphere about 30 minutes away from the hustle and bustle of the Hotel Zone.

My husband and I travelled here for our 25th Wedding anniversary. We stayed for a week on a time share promotion. We thought we got a great deal for a wonderful holiday. I think I would rate the resort as a 4.5 star. We rented a car, which you should only do if you are brave and a little crazy. We fit both of those categories so we enjoyed the adventure and used a GPS to guide us around. Just a side note...the newer highway to Villa Del Palmer was not recognized by our GPS so it took us around by the Ultra Mar Ferry (a little longer and bumpier route). We got to our resort around noon and did not expect our room to be ready early so we brought our swim suits and went for lunch by the pool. We liked the food prepared at the pool side bar. We also came prepared to tip the staff at the resort and got amazing service. Staff would come by regularly to ask us if we needed anything and would stop to chat with us on occasion. We liked this resort best because of the staff. We really liked Oliver, Fransisco, Christian, and Isaac. They were so friendly and would even come over to say hi to us even when they weren't serving us. We tipped about $1.00/drink, $2-$5 at breakfast, $3-$5 at lunch, and $10-$15 at supper. We also brought Canadian pins to give to the staff. We left little gifts and $3.00/day for our maid. One of the staff thanked us for calling him by his name. One must remember that the resort staff are hard working people with families who are doing their best during the busy and not so busy times. We were fortunate because we came after the Easter rush and it was a little less busy at the resort. We never waited long for anything our whole trip. Every day we had beautiful towel animals and displays all over our room. The maid wrote us little notes and we were excited to see what she had done in our room each day. I also think that the food at this resort was great! I know some people in these reviews didn't like it but food preferences are so different from person to person. They have some Mexican dishes that you might love or not. We like trying new things and loved mostly everything. We were only supposed to get 2 A la carte dinners with our promotion, no honor bar, or room service. The last 3 nights of our stay there was no evening buffet because of lower numbers at the resort so we were allowed to eat at the A la Carte restaurants. We chose Davino's each night. I loved their 4 cheese soup the best and my husband liked the Greek Salad. We also used the honor bar one day and never got charged at check out. We used the internet in the hospitality suite, which was usually empty. We loved the pool and the beach but the ocean was choppy and the water a little murky so we chose to swim in the ocean on Isla Mujeres and we went to the beach by Tulum one day. We joined in some of the water activities and had a blast. Thank you to Alex and Louis. We enjoyed the buffets. At breakfast they will make you a fruit smoothie with whatever you want in it and they will also bring you Coffee and Baileys, Mimosa's or whatever you desire. My husband usually got an fresh omelet, and I enjoyed the fruit and green juice. The staff even helped me pack up a few pastries for our day trip to Tulum. We were really nervous about the time share presentation but it was an okay experience for us. We had breakfast first with the representative and mostly ate a chatted for the first 45ish minutes then we went on the 90 minute presentation. I think it took about 2-2.5 hours all together but in all fairness we just had a leisurely breakfast first. We told the representative right from the start that we were absolutely not buying. She went through everything up to the money part and then we were free to go. She was obviously somewhat disappointed but did not guilt us or treat us poorly. We accidentally took the public transportation ferry to Isla Mujeres instead of the Ultra Mar (blue and yellow fast ferry). This ferry was older and only had local people on it but it was fine and took about 20 minutes for $6.50/person. We also paid $6.00 to park for the day. We rented a golf cart for $40.00 and toured the island. We went snorkling at a beach near the ruins on the south side of the island. The fish would come right up to you and people said they were used to being fed. We signed for everything at the resort and checked our bills to be sure they were correct. We also tipped in cash and made sure to cross of the tip on the bill and put the total in. One time we were charged for a bottle by mistake. We pointed it out and the girl was very apologetic and fixed it right away. My advice to guests would be to be kind to the staff, tip, don't have a sense of entitlement, don't sweat the small stuff, and you will have a wonderful holiday. This resort is very eager to please you and to try to make you happy. They work hard, everything is beautiful and new, the food looks fancy and is great! Although I don't want a timeshare, I wish I could come back here every year on a promotion! It was a great deal!
