Excellent small restaurant that should be tried if on a visit to N. France. Superb wine list and great food served by people who care about their business. Tip, select a driver because the cab fares are ridiculously high. 25 euros for 4k drive back to the Holiday Inn coquelle

Shopping trip to Calais (we used to do quite often, but much less now) went quickly so we decided to have a drive up the coast for somewhere for a drink/eat before the 10pm ferry back. By chance, found this place at 6.45pm in Sangatte - there's very little else up the coast road. Open for Dinner at 7pm it said so we went for a pression and came back at 7.15, and there was just the one table for two left unreserved; several other prospective diners came in by 8pm and were turned away (although a front window table for 6 was still unused by 9pm departure). Menu was very local but full of options, decor very special/cultural, and daily options part of the Euor 21 or 29 menus were even more delicious (half a BIG crab for entree). Just sumptious, succulent food, very gracefully served, with a flourish (mise-bouche and hot towels) and we were forced back onto O-level French to communicate - all the other diners seemed to be local, which says a lot about its reputation. Definitely book in advance, we were very lucky to experience this place (and caught the ferry with two minutes to spare..)

The bright, colourful decor and warm welcome were just the start. The food is bright and colourful too, all beautifully fresh and interesting to eat. The salmon rillettes with pink pepper were a delight, and the delicious little moules delicate and tender (the perfect season for these) with crunchy chips. The daily pud was a pannacotta with caramel & crisp crumble, really nice to eat. Appetiser on a cool day was a hot crustless quiche with ham & cheese, served with an unusual touch, hot wet cloths. Easy to find in Sangatte (the pink one next to the bigger Blanc Nez restaurant) on the coast road from Calais; English spoken if needed. Toques d'Opale menu available. Good value, excellent cooking, we'll be back.

We were a party of 5 and on checking other reviewers I took their advice and booked ahead. The google maps web site is oh so wrong so be careful when getting directions. The staff are so very friendly and sure enough our table for 5 was available. We had a small anti room off the main area. This proved even better as the area is quite small. There is a wide choice of menus ranging from around 19 euros for a 2 course meal or up to 29euros for the a la carte . Prior to the meal arriving we were given a taster of a small soufflé excellent and a nice appetiser too.Starters I had a starter of 1/2 a crab, whelks, langoustines, prawns ,shrimps and bread and butter. My companions had similar dishes some had just crab and shrimps . All were very large portions and excellent.
My main course was the steak and frites complimented by a mushroom sauce. Cooked to perfection. Others in the party had Chicken Curry with noodles ,Mussels with white wine and cream and Mussels with tomatoes etc. We all finished with empty plates . ! Our desserts - by now we had been there over 2 hours and didn't realise they only open from 12 - 3.30 . Our booking was for 1.30 and due to google got lost. However it was no problem for them to stay and serve us. But the disappointment was that there were not sufficient crème brulees for us all. But there were 3 so we shared them and were all VERY full by the end.. 3 carafes of house white, 2 beers and a lemonade and of course, water and lots of bread and butter . Overall price was including the tip 180euros. We cannot wait to go back . Thank you very much to Elodie and Bertrand .
Parking no problem either Sangette seems a sleepy place .

We had the steak and frites which was beautifully cooked and were given complimentary taster starter and even sweeties with our coffee. Super service and location. Only unusual thing was the transparent chairs! Very modern chic interior. Parked outside easily. I imagine you would need to book during busier times of the year
