Beth & John are fabulous. Gorgeous house. Nothing is a problem. Excellent high pressure shower! Very warm with heat pumps - great place to wind down & relax after a busy day's work. The food is divine! I'll be back - and do not hesitate to recommend this stunning accommodation to anyone who needs somewhere quiet to relax a short distance from Christchurch. Excellent value.

Room Tip: Torlesse Room with ensuite - Nice & roomy

We stayed in a 2 person twin room with a shared bathroom at this lovely B&B outside of Christchurch. Unfortunately the city centre has been closed due to the earthquake, but this place was so wonderful that it could be a destination in itself.

Our wonderful stay started with a warm greeting from Beth with tea and cookies. She gave us great recommendations for nearby restaurants, but when we said that we were exhausted from our 6.5 hour drive from Queenstown, she was happy to give us a can of soup and ciabatta bread for a light dinner so we could rest.

But that was nothing compared to the wonderful breakfasts we had. The first morning we had salmon benedict accompanied by toast and yogurt with a variety of preserves and fruit from their backyard. The second morning, even though we had to leave at 7:15am, Beth still woke up early to have breakfast ready for us at 6:30, and then sat with us and chatted.

Other goodies during our stay: Beth made a goodie box with hot water, tea, homemade muffins, and bananas for our day trip to Akaroa. She also had ice cream waiting for us after we came home from dinner our second night. We also had fresh cut flowers in our bathroom and bedroom.

Overall, Beth was the perfect hostess from beginning to end. We really could not have asked for anything more. We are looking forward to coming back to this wonderful B&B, hopefully someday soon.

This was my first time staying at a bed and breakfast and the experience could not have been more enjoyable. I must admit that this was not my first choice but due to a memorial service in Christchurch during my stay this was the only accomodations available. With that said, I am extremely happy that fate led me to this comfortable little bed and breakfast. I was treated like one of the family and I felt very at home. John and Beth go the extra mile to make you feel welcome. The friendly, family atmosphere made the stay worthwhile and cannot be overvalued. So, put your reservations aside and make a reservation!

Regrettably, my husband and I only got the chance to spend one night with John and Beth. They were(are) the perfect hosts, and you quickly feel more like old friends that just met. For us, we felt very comfortable, very much at home, and lucky to have met such wonderful people. The hospitality was unending, with tea or some 'treat' available all the time. Food was delicious. Our room was spacious, clean, quiet and comfortable. The garden view is lovely...a real gem! For us, it was a great place to end our trip in NZ, and we only wish we could have stayed longer at this spot! This B&B offers a great location to travel to Christchurch, the airport, or other points of interest, including skiing, hiking. Truly Pefect!

Wonderful hosts - even offered to pick us up from our function in the early hours of the morning. Beautiful breakfast outside. We felt like family by the time we left and we only stayed one night.

Unfortunately just a 1 night stay to break up our journey, but John and Beth made it so worthwhile. Two very homely and caring people with every intention of making you the most important person around. Beth was trying out her home baking when we arrived, so it was straight into the garden to enjoy the fruits of her labour, just as if you were visiting friends. The house was along a short driveway and situated in a huge garden with a marvellous variety of flowers, shrubs and trees. it is only about a 15 minute walk to local restaurants, and only about 20 min drive to Christchurch. The room we were in, The Torlesse room, was very large, with walk in storage area, very large bath and seperate shower areas, really spacious. The bed was also very comfortable. The full breakfast in the morning was extremely tasty and plentiful. Beth even supplied us with some fruit loaf for our journey, she was so generous.
This was very good value for money, and would definitely recommend it.

You won't find a better B&B in all of New Zealand. John and Beth were the perfect hosts. The food was great. Everything was pristine. The best sleep we had. Anything you needed they would try and find it for you. We didn't want to leave. It was my husband and I and our 17 year old son. We were treated as if we were family. We all loved it and would go back and stay with them in a heartbeat.
