The municipal camp sites of France are always so conveniently located just on the edges of town and are also unmatched in terms of cost, the Camping Municipal Le Belvedere de Pyrenees was no exception.
Located on the Rue des chanteurs du Comminges, just out of the town centre to the north west, this camp site was easy to find, we approached from south after a day driving in the Pyrennees. The staff at reception were very friendly and we paid upfront for one night of camping, the total cost was a bargain at 13.50 Euros/night.
The camp site was quite large, dotted with lots of medium sized trees and hedges between pitches that catered for all types: tents, caravans, electric hook ups and even options to plumb in washing machines etc were all available. The grass was lush and thick owing to its close proximity to the mountains and the revitalising heavy morning dew; driving tent pegs into the ground was easy. The views of the mountains from the camp site on the south side were fantastic, one can pitch the tent in such fashion so to wake up and be immediately confronted with the awesome mountain vista's.
The wash block and other facilities were dated and the decoration was tired, all wash and toilet facilities were unisex. This camp site does not have any other facilities, for example there is no kids play area, swimming pool and restaurant, however all the essential facilities are here.
The town of Saint Gaudens is historic and picturesque and displays many of the quaint qualities associated with Pyrennean towns, It has supermarkets, well priced restaurants and petrol stations.
If your looking for a place to stop over for the night then this is well situated for trips through the Pyrennees.
