“The perfect retreat.....”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

We have been regular visitors to Coruisk for many years, knowing that the warm and quirky hospitality extended by the previous owners would contribute to the enjoyment of our breaks in Elgol.

Our trip there last week was the second visit since new proprietors Iain and Clare took the helm. We were delighted to experience such a lovely welcome, their attention to our every need, ensured that our stay was as perfect as it could be.

The accommodation is simple, sparing and tasteful...but expect to be cossetted in the cosiest down quilts and the softest snowy-white linen and pillows and comfy beds, all contributing to a great night's rest. Lovely unexpected touches add to the charm of the experience: a selection of great reading material in the rooms, the fluffiest towels and Skye handmade soaps.

Iain produced the most delicious food - every morsel we ate was top quality. His menus are carefully constructed so that the flavours in every mouthful are a delight, beautifully prepared and presented. Clare's delicious home-made breads /cereals made breakfast extra special too. And the brownies and home made ice cream are a must!!

Our only disappointment was at not being able to stay for longer!
I know that this will continue to be one of our favourite places to visit, we cannot wait to return. Thank you both for making our stay so special.

Thank you Clare and Iain for a wonderful 3 days. It was my first trip to Skye let alone the beautiful Elgol. We hope to return before too long. Iain's food was fantastic and Clare's love of the island was infectious. Don't change too much - a "restaurant with rooms" is just what we needed.

A wonderful place to stay, Clare and Iain were wonderful hosts and nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing (thanks Iain) and the rooms were fabulous, I never normally sleep well when staying away from home but the beds were so comfy and cosy, I felt like I was at home. I will definitely be returning to Coruisk House, I just hope that next time the sun is shining for my whole stay there

Having visited Skye many times over the past 20 years we thought we had found all the best parts of the island. How wrong can you be! First visit to Elgol and what a beautiful part of the island,breath-taking. And what a great find in Coruisk House. Stayed a night as part of our long holiday weekend Great food, great hosts and a wonderful bed . Will definately be back

Room Tip: The House has the quirks you would expect in a very old building but this only added to our enjoymen...

We found this gem on the Isle of Skye via their website and it was absolutely wonderful. The rooms are comfy and well appointed and the food here is EXCELLENT! Clare and Iain are excellent hosts and will guide you through their locally sourced brilliantly cooked food at dinner. Breakfast the next morning was brilliant as well. Will definitely want to come back! The journey in was well worth it!

Coruisk House is a wonderful place - very friendly, cosy, comfortable and expertly run by Clare and Iain who describe it as 'a restaurant with rooms'. The food is outstanding - super-fresh fish and seafood and other local produce, expertly cooked by Iain. We stayed for three nights and ate there each night, every meal being a real treat. The breakfasts are great too! Our room was delightful with a very comfortable four-poster bed. Clare is a wonderul hostess and gives excellent advice about local walks, boat trips from Elgol (she rang and booked places for us) and other places to visit. All in all we were looked after in great style and plan to return when we next visit Skye. If you are looking for somewhere intimate to stay, or for a special evening meal, Coruisk House is for you.

Room Tip: Either room is great!

Coruisk House is the Restaurant with Rooms in Elgol. It is situated in the tiny but stunning fishing village of Elgol, two miles from the harbour. Elgol harbour overlooks Loch Scavaig towards the most spectacular view on the Isle of Skye - towards the Cuillin Ridge. Boat trips are available from Elgol Harbour between March to October for visits to Loch Coruisk and the islands of Soay, Rum and Canna (Iain and Clare will book the boat trips for their guests). Outside of these months, and weather dependent, boat trips are available by prior arrangement but guests should enquire well in advance of their visit. The area is renowned for spectacular scenery and is beloved of photographers and artists. There are many amazingly scenic walks that can be made from the house or just a short drive away. There are two rooms for guests at Coruisk House, each with views over towards the Sleat peninsula. Each room has a king size bed (one is a four poster), en-suite shower room and tea and coffee making facilities. The rooms are tastefully furnished, the beds have soft pillows and duck down duvets and the towels are fluffy! There is a cosy residents lounge with wood-burning stove and comfortable sofas to enjoy afternoon tea or a dram from a selection of fine single malts available. There is a television in the lounge. The restaurant (also with an open fire) serves lunch and dinner by prior reservation (24 hours advance reservation) from March until October using local produce (with a focus on seafood and highland game, although catering to specific dietary requirements with prior notice). Fresh shellfish is available having been landed daily (weather permitting) by the fishermen who leave Elgol Harbour early every morning throughout the year. Iain prepares delicious food with close attention to detail and will cater to guests specific requests if at all possible. Clare makes fresh bread daily for guests to enjoy. Afternoon tea is also available for all residents of Coruisk House. Iain and Clare greet all their guests with a warm welcome and make sure that their stay is relaxing and enjoyable in a truly stunning location. ... more   less
