“Best holiday accommodation ever!”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

We were absolutely delighted by our stay. It was slightly over our budget but when we found Mary's cottages on the internet we knew we had to stay there. It was well worth it. They are beautifully romantic and so much care has gone in to fitting the cottages out for guests. Our cottage was like the Tardis - it looks snug and cosy from the outside but really roomy on the inside without loosing the cosiness. Elgol is a charming place and the view across the bay to the Cuillin is one of the most spectacular in Scotland. It is a really good base for some remote walking, and the fact that you are miles from the nearest phone signal is a bonus. Mary and Drew are really nice and we also had a boat trip with Drew during which he told us about the local crofters and life in a remote island village. Jan and I would both highly recomment Mary's Cottages. Would be brilliant for a honeymoon - we are a bit old for that, though...

Room Tip: There are 4 cottages, and I doubt there is much to choose between them.

Great place to stay to get away from everything!!!!

Leave your phone behind...you won't be able to use it here!...bliss!!!! ;)

The cottages themselves are beautiful. Very cozy and comfy with all mod cons. Very clean and Mary herself was just so lovely and welcoming!

Would love to go back already!!!

The review beforehand hits the nail on the head!
Stunning thatched cottage with amazing interior, high beams and wood ceiling, stone floor (heated), comfy king size bed, oil burner fire just to list a few.
We also found it rather warm (jan) but was more than capable in turning it down and this is not in anyway a grumble, we took 2 dogs and they loved it as much as we did, open hillside behind and wonderful views...
We are already planning our return, something we have never done with other destinations...

Of an almost month-long trip to the UK, staying in a different location every night or two, Mary's Cottages was our hearts' favorite. The pictures and description on TA and Mary's website beautifully and accurately depict what you'll get, but they still don't quite do the place justice. It is wonderfully remote, charming, cozy and quiet. Your hosts, Mary and Drew, are delightful but never intrusive. Skye is an amazing island, and Mary's Cottages is an exceptional experience to match. A perfect location for romance, honeymoon, or just getting away from it all for awhile, I highly, highly recommend a stay here.

A couple of tips: leave your mobile behind. It likely won't work here. And stop for some essential groceries in Broadford so you can take advantage of the fully equipped kitchen.

My husband and i spent our honeymoon at Mary's cottages,It was absolute bliss!!. Mary and her husband Drew are two lovely down to earth people and made us feel extremely welcome. The cottage itself was beautiful inside and absolutley spotless, the washing machine/dryer and dish washer were an added bonus and because it was our honeymoon Mary had placed a dozen red roses and a bottle of champagne in our bedroom along with a card of congratulations,The scenery in Elgol truly is breathtaking!!The locals very friendly,And Drews boat trip on Loch Coruisk was the perfect end to our stay in this magical wee place,The Loch was teeming with wildlife seals and their pups basking on the rocks and we were fortunate enough to have a school of dolphins swim alongside Drews boat,I can honestly say its worth every penny to stay at Marys cottages.
