“Great boat trip”
Reviewed July 23, 2014

We had originally planned to take this boat trip one way to Lake Coruisk, then hike from there back to Elgol (about 4 hours). Unfortunately, the night before there was a lot of rain, which swelled the river we had to cross from the lake to the hiking trail, making it inaccessible.

But that wasn't a problem for the crew. They told us we could ride back to Elgol on any of the boats scheduled that day, and pay only a bit extra. So we had a couple of hours to explore Lake Coruisk - a pristine lake accessible only by boat. During the boat trip we saw a large colony of brown seals, including 4-week-old pups. Ian gave very informative commentary during the trip, and was very friendly.

All in all, a wonderful day excursion.

“Great crew and good service”
Reviewed July 22, 2014

James and Ian were great lads and looked after us well on our trip to Loch Coruisk. The sun was shining and we had a great trip. Before getting dropped off we saw the local seal colony and were also given refreshments on the return leg.
Many thanks.

“Truly a highlight of Skye”
Reviewed July 12, 2014

We took the boat trip from Elgol to Loch Coruisk using the Misty Isle service a few weeks ago. The journey to Elgol from Broadford was an adventure in itself – lots of sheep and cows on the roadway and lots of pulling over to let traffic pass on the one-lane road, so I do recommend giving yourself at least 30 minutes more than what your GPS tells you it will take to make the drive. You’ll also find that you want to stop and take pictures every five minutes, so the extra time will help make that possible.

The crew was as friendly as could be with insightful (and humorous) commentary on the area. The boat was nice and we had smooth sailing. We were also fortunate enough to enjoy blue skies and calm seas, which made our visit extra special. We saw the seal colony and crystal clear water along the coastline and then made our way to the loch itself. There are so many amazing sights to take in – you’ll want to photograph it all. As recommended by the skipper, Seumas, we crossed the river (at the stepping stones) to enjoy some even more spectacular views of the loch. We took in the views from the shoreline and then hiked higher up to where there was a plateau of sorts. (Note: Be sure to pack a few bottles of water. On the day of our visit, it was very sunny and warm, so we drank a lot of water to stay hydrated.) From there we had a perfect view of where the Cuillin Mountains horseshoe around the loch. We sat and enjoyed the scenery for 20 minutes or so before we started the hike back to the boat. Once on the boat, we were greeted with a selection of drinks (juice, tea, coffee, hot chocolate) and biscuits/sweets. My husband and I enjoyed our tea and a snack as we waited for everyone to board. It was a nice extra that they include.

We did the standard trip (which gives you an hour and a half on shore) because we were staying in Fort Augustus in the evening and still wanted to explore more of the island in the afternoon. If we had been staying on Skye for the night, then I think we would have opted for the half-day trip, which gives you four hours ashore. It is truly magnificent there, so no matter how tight your schedule is while on Skye make time for a boat trip out to Loch Coruisk. I doubt there are many places on earth that could rival the beauty you’ll find there.
