The gondola ride is an experience in and of itself! The surrounding views are breathtaking and we were lucky to have a clear day, so we could see pretty far. The observatory is interesting to walk around and again the views are great. There is a platform with a plexiglass landing at the end for the not so faint of heart to walk out on and take some pictures. We did not eat at the restaurant or go to the planetarium, although we did walk through the astronomy exhibit. As for access to much more of the observatory complex, it was pretty limited. My husband felt that it was a bit pricey for the things we did see and for the time we spent. I felt the entire experience bottom to top and down again was worth the time, but I agree it was a bit pricey for two.

Love this place the best in the world we had a lovely tour guide called Veronica from the Pyrenees tour guide off Trip Advisor excellent service especially in looking after my elderly mother on her mobility scooter and my Aunty incredible experience to be on top of the world loved the museum and cafe area loved the deck chairs outside area stunning loved the ski village and seeing the donkeys and wild cows roaming in the mountains most of all seeing so many eagles flying around us over the mountains in the cable cars stunning and a lovely shop to buy lots of trinkets too

We used the live web cam to inform us about the conditions at the peak, and this worked well. We enjoyed a fabulous cable car ride above the clouds into blue skies and sunshine and stunning views. Loved walking out onto the pontoon for even better views and amazing photos.
There were talks given, but as they were in French we enjoyed the opportunity to visit the pontoon without anyone else waiting their turn. We bought snacks and drinks (pricey but nice) from the cafe and sat on the many deckchairs in the sun to enjoy them before returning to the base station, which turned out to be covered in cloud.

We had very strong memories of our last trip to the observatory at the top of the Pic du Midi - but that was 15 years ago and much has changed. It now has a much more polished visitor centre and as a consequence there are fewer places to go on the outside and rather more emphasis on exhibitions in dark rooms. The views from the outside deck remain stunning and the cable car ride exhilarating and it’s a great place for feeling on top of the world, but how we liked the rather rougher feel of the past. The restaurant too seemed less enticing than we remembered, with a good menu but a rather poor setting. And it’s a very expensive trip - 80 euros for two.

I’d recommend going at a time when there’s snow on the mountains - it’s a bit bare in September. May is good, if you can reach La Mongie (snow on the road prevented our last planned visit).

Down the mountain was wet and rainy. On the drive up we kept lamenting the weather - but the weather app said it was sunny on top. And it was.

The cable car soared above clouds to a gorgeous sunny day. Well worth the 98€ to get that experience.

Its a very nice hike from Col Di Toumalet to the top (4.5 hours roundtrip) with very good views. We enjoyed very much including our young son. What was a bit of a surprise is that you can only use the facilities ( toilet, bistro, restaurant, platform) if you came by cable car or if you pay 18€ per person. We had the feeling that hikers are not really welcome.

A little expensive to get to the top but on a clear day we’ll worth every penny the view is a must to see

Breath-taking landscapes, history, science, astronomy, geography, culture. Definitely a nice place to go, also with children who are not afraid of heights. Worth visiting. Sunscreen recommended. Prices are too high.

Absolutely amazing to come up and stay overnight. They only have about 25 people per night, it’s so quiet. Dinner was excellent, and you are busy from 5.30 until bed so arrive earlier if you want time to look round first. Wrap up warm!! Midsummer and it’s SO cold at night!
Be warned though. If you don’t speak French, you will not understand anything! They haven’t yet translated the talks or videos so it does get a little boring as there are lots of presentations.
The rooms are sweet and have incredible views. So peaceful and majestic, can’t wait to come again!
