About 10 different expressions of absolute amazement ran through my mind the moment our Villa door opened that afternoon we arrived at Ayara, and I couldn't decide on the best one to express my shock, so I just stood there with my mouth hanging open.

We had chosen the Hilltops Pool Villa Suites at Ayara after hearing about it from friends and reading reviews, and apparently the resort was quite full and our Villa was the last Hilltop Pool Villa left. I couldn't have been happier. The view the moment the Resort Host opened the door was stunning. Our private infinity pool stretched out in front of me and seemed to drop off into the panoramic view of the Andaman Sea, a beautiful hill in the distance and the beach bays of Phuket. On the left was our bedroom villa, and on the right was our living and dining room villa. I knew very well that with a view like that and with our private infinity pool that looked oh-so-welcoming, I wouldn't want to go too far from our resort, at least for the first day. First activity on my list: spending as much time soaking and relaxing on the day beds and in the pool as possible, feasting my eyes and soothing my soul with the jaw-dropping view.

As our Resort Host showed us around, I noticed how wonderfully everything was maintained and how clean things were, especially the pool! It wouldn't be easy to keep things in good condition with the sea air and the humid temperature of Phuket, but it was clear that Ayara made a very good effort to do so. Well done! Even little details such as the folded floor mats of the bathrooms with spider lilies placed on top was testament to their efforts to ensure a relaxing and pleasurable stay.

All the staff spoke English that was at least understandable, and were very service-oriented. Even the gardening staff, chambermaids and janitors could speak some English and were very friendly, always with a ready smile or nod when we passed by. It says a lot about the working environment where even the cleaners seem happy. One evening, we had invited friends over to our villa for dinner. We informed the front desk about their arrival and asked for them to be brought to our villa. The staff at the front desk were very helpful and had no problems understanding our requests and acceding to them. Great service like that is always very reassuring; we knew our guests were in good hands.

The food selection at the restaurants was great. The first night we were there, they had a BBQ dinner. The prawns weren't very fresh, but the crayfish, calamari, fish wrapped in banana leaves, and the usual buffet selection more than made up for that. Some of the dishes at the complimentary breakfast buffet changed every morning, so it made breakfast more varied.

The spa was good as well, but we had some trouble at first when we were supposed to sit in a herbal sauna but couldn't figure out how to turn the sauna on. I had to shout down the empty hallway outside our massage room just so someone could come and operate the sauna for us.

The hotel boasted a buggy service that would take us to the nearby Surin Beach, and tie-ups with two of the beach clubs that would ensure we had a spot to hang out and just relax on the sand. The beach clubs looked very inviting, with friendly service staff and an extensive menu of snacks, meals and drinks. We didn't hang out at the beach very often, though, but will probably do so the next time we go.

All in all, a wonderful trip!! Our 3-night stay was too short, and I can't wait till we find the opportunity to return and this time perhaps stay a little longer. Hopefully it will be soon!!

Room Tip: For a spectacular view, stretch the budget and go for a Hilltop Pool Villa. The Courtyard suites loo...

We arrived at Ayara very tired after our wedding celebrations and very jet lagged after 22 hours travelling but as soon as we were met by the friendly, attentive staff and saw the view from the balcony of our room we were lifted.

The accommodation was exquisite; we stayed in the Grand Deluxe suite room 810, high up the hill (free buggy transport if required). We spent most of our time in the room recovering in a very comfortable bed, with shower, large bath, two TVs, cool jacuzzi on the balcony with a stunning view of the ocean. We also had a couples massage in the Sereniti Spa located in the resort which was incredibly relaxing and enjoyable.

We enjoyed breakfast, which had a huge selection of fruit, salads, meats, fish and delicious baked goods both Thai and Western. We are both vegetarian and even though we enjoyed the fruit, salad and baked goods, the chef was so kind to make us a veg stir fry and tofu skewers with peanut sauce, especially for us as well. We ate dinner all of the 3 nights we stayed, enjoying all four of their vegetarian options, with their live pianist playing the background, in their restaurant beside their beautiful pool.

I have to give a special mention to the staff at Ayara. Every staff member, in every area, from porters to breakfast, dinner, reception etc. that we met or had dealings with were extremely friendly, polite, helpful and attentive. They were a joy to be around, and probably the best we have encountered, which Is saying a lot as the standard is very high in Thailand when it comes to friendliness and helpfulness. Thank you so much.

I highly recommend Ayara Hilltops to any couple who want to feel welcome in a top class resort and enjoy some quality time together in a very quiet and relaxed atmosphere.

Ian and Lisa.

Just spent 16 days at Ayara and we couldn't have had a nicer place. We chose this place largely due to TA reviews and am pleased to say that we weren't disappointed. Our criteria for choosing a hotel is firstly a lovely room, but also needs to be in the right place and this fits the bill lovely. We stayed in a Deluxe Seaview Room (no. 810). This had a large sitting area with a fantastic view over the sea and even of Bang Tao bay next one up. Also good size and comfy bed and a large bathroom. Nice large balcony with loungers, chairs and table - ideal for that sundowner! The reviews are correct - go as high up the room categories that you can afford as this takes you higher up the hillside and thus the great views. Yes it's a hill, which has you out of breath at the top, but there is always a buggy to take you up if you wish, but the exercise is good after the lovely breakfasts! The hill is simply a topographical feature and should absolutely not influence your decision one way or the other on whether to stay here. Secondly, yes the hotel, being on the hillside, is not on the beach and the coastal road runs between the hotel and the beach. Obviously there is traffic but speaking for ourselves only, the road absolutely did not affect us one bit and we live in the quiet countryside at home. The beach is a very pleasant five minute walk from the hotel and if you've had too many pastries for breakfast, you can always get the buggy, although the walk is probably nicer.

The pool was nice, although the beach at Surin, is possibly one of the nicest beaches in Thailand that we have been on after many holidays there, so basically we were on the beach every day. The hotel has an arrangement ( along with most other hotels in the area as they too are not on the beach either) with two of the 'beach clubs' - Bimi's and Catch. Both fantastic, cool cabanas and Chillaxxo music, with waiter service for those cooling libations....watermelon on sticks just when the sun is getting too hot...lovely.

Didn't eat in the hotel at all, as we ate at the numerous restaurants on the beach every night. Great food, reasonably priced and more than enough choices to please us for 16 nights.

All in all, a lovely hotel to stay in, in a good location and because we booked well in advance on their website, an excellent (48%) discount.

This is going to be an honest review, 'warts and all' as they say, but ultimately as the title says the Ayara Hilltops is as good as it gets in Phuket.

I've just returned (last night) from a two-week stay having booked after reading numerous TA reviews of pretty-much every resort in Phuket. The Ayara Hilltops appeared to offer the best combination of 'top-end' value for money, facilities and location, thereby securing my booking back in September for a Grand-deluxe Suite for our stay in November.

The long flight as ever from London to Phuket is a 'challenge' and the pre-booking of a hotel 'limousine' is definitely worth the THB1000 for the ease of getting to the resort. A welcoming driver showing your name in the hub-bub of the melee of Phuket Airport is something that can't be beaten. Chilled lemongrass towels and bottled water on getting in was priceless and the relatively relaxed drive beat the usual 'OMFG hang on to your pants, we're going to die' taxi drive you usually get from the airport.

On arrival we were met and escorted to our room by a wonderful lady (whose name escapes me (sorry)) who relaxed us yet again with cool towels, drinks and garlands and a welcome upgrade from the Grand-deluxe Suite to the Super-deluxe Suite (no difference, but higher up the mountain). A great introduction to what was at the time a night-time hotel room.

The suite was just wonderful and mellowed in its age, being perfectly clean and definitely giving the 'wow' start to our holiday. Spacious, well laid out, and the view out over the Andaman Sea offering a rare glimpse of what most of us would call Paradise.

Most rooms are laid out similarly, but the more you pay the higher up the mountain you are, thereby offering better views and distance from the noise of the road below. Believe me, the noise of the road below is never intrusive because you get used to it, but if you want 'hear a pin drop' relaxation forget it, it's not going to happen here. This place is stunning and believe me, for the money you won't regret it.

Down sides? OK, as mentioned before the location is up a mountain, but at no time was the hotel shuttle 'buggy' ever more than 4 minutes away and seriously, that is no problem. The view is worth it! The bed on the other hand was 'firm'. If you ever have that 'oh yes, we've arrived' feeling that you should take a running jump at the bed, forget it, you'd break a hip… and have a prolapse included. It's on the concrete side of firm, with a mattress topper to take off some of the impact. Enough said.

The kitchenette was a sink, small fridge and granite work-top, small table and chairs for a romantic room service meal and a work station for your lap top and Wi-fi connectivity was amongst the best I have experienced in Phuket, so don't get too excited.

The whirl-pool was lovely, albeit cold-filled (yes, you do have to fill it yourself and it's warmed by the day-time sun) and a welcome retreat after a day spent at one of the two beach clubs that Ayara Hilltops has an agreement with. A quick call to hotel reception will have you to either Bimi Beach Club or the more popular and appropriately priced Catch Beach Club in a few minutes and will give you a day of paid for (to get in) luxury using the resort's entry cards.

Surin Beach is less intense than Patong Beach, so will suit those that want a more relaxed holiday with some lovely beach front restaurants (Taste/ PLA) to take you away from the less than exciting Ayara pool-side evening restaurant. The day-time pool-side service was above and beyond, with the team being ever present but never intrusive. Top marks to them!

The two-weeks went by oh so too quickly and should the opportunity arise, I would happily bring my family back for the holiday to remember. So, if the opportunity arises, go for it. Book as high up as finances allow, knowing that you'll have a great time!

Now I'm back to my jet-lag and UK winter temperatures :(

Room Tip: The higher you get the more you pay (and the further from the road you are), but the view gets bette...

Dream place, the rooms are beautiful with their Thai decor, massive bathroom, jacuzzi and chairs on private terrace. We just spent night there, arrived at 10.30 when check in starter at 3, they made the extra effort to make us comfortable and changed the room so we could have it earlier. Same for our check out, they let us used the facility until our late flight. They drive you to your room or the beach if you want to, where you have cards for using the Club's lounge and towel, but it's only a 5 minutes walk.will definitely come back, and this time put some salmon on my egg Benedict ( there was so much choice I actually missed it from the buffet.

My wife and I spent our honeymoon at Ayara Hilltops hotel and really enjoyed our time. We stayed at one of the deluxe suites, which is located at the top of the hill. I really liked the warm welcome, and cool welcome drinks after the long trip from the airport, and it was really refreshing :)
Surin beach is very close-by , almost 5 min walking distance, and has very good sand and warm water. There are couple of restaurants near the beach that you can have nice grills for the dinner. For muslims, strict about halal food, it is easy to find proper food in Phuket.

Room Tip: We stayed at room 809 (I read the advices from previous travelers from tripadvisor actually) and rea...

My wife and adult children stayed at the Ayara Hilltop for seven nights and to be honest this boutique hotel far exceeded our expectations. The level of customer service and the attention to detail with the room and overall, the hotel, was exceptional. To mention the positives would make this review very lengthy. This boutique hotel puts the major chain hotels to shame. The staff at the resort were excellent, well mannered, well dressed and nothing was too much trouble. I particularly liked the buggy that could pick us up at our room after 11am and drove us to Surin Beach and with a call returned to pick us up within minutes. The Surin Beach would be described as one of most beautiful and natural beaches i have ever seen.

Room Tip: All rooms are excellent, but be mindful that the resort is on a hilltop so if you can't manage s...
