When we learned that both the chef and Head Barman had changed from last year we were a bit concerned that perhaps standards had slipped - but 'au contraire' - if anything they have reached new heights of excellence.
We were greeted by friendly, smiling and totally professional 'Mac', who is simply wonderful. The drinking part of the evening was well in hand with Mac, who combines a deft had at mixing drinks with friendly conversation and information.
Bar presentation was what you would expect in a 5 star hotel and the brands of alcohol served were top shelf.
We had starters at the bar and the lamb kofta and salt and pepper squid were divine. Simply outstanding.
We chose a variety of small dishes for dinner and every single thing was perfect.
Sails is in a great location and should become a mecca for travelers to Surin Beach but I fear it is yet an undiscovered treasure as it was not at all busy when we there (which is great on one hand but not good for the owner).
Price-wise it is in mid bracket - certainly the not like the horrendously expensive places on Surin Beach and not a cheap beachside restaurant - pretty much at the right value proposition.
Thoroughly recommend Sails as an up and coming restaurant on the beach in Surin and suggest you get in soon before this place is packed every evening.
