The Surin is so beautiful with the crisp white beach against the clear blue skies. We stayed at a suite just next to the beach and the view from our window is just more white sandy beach and amazing clear skies and stunning sunsets.

Our wedding was held on 18 Nov 2012 and we had about 40 guests. It was on a lawn next to the beach and to be honest, when we first visited the lawn, we were unimpressed as the lawn was small and seemed poorly maintained. However on the day of the wedding, the staff of The Surin especially Khun Bat have totally transformed it into such a magical location. The lawn was filled with overwhelming amount of pink and white roses and much thoughts were put in to the decorations (such as where to place the poms poms we brought and the decoration on the guests reception table etc). The lawn became so romantic, with the roses, poms poms, lightings and against the amazing sunset and gentle breeze, everything was perfect. Our guests truly enjoyed themselves. The food was good and the staff were very attentive. However the sound system was a complete let down. We could not increase the volume of the music or the mike without the irritating feedback so the band was quite soft, we had to "shout" out our speeches and the background music for the fire performance was not loud enough. Despite this only flaw, most of our guests told us that it was overall a beautiful, beautiful wedding.

We have chosen The Surin as the venue for our wedding mainly for 2 reasons, firstly the beauty of the place and secondly the service provided by our wedding coordinator, Khun Bat. We came to Phuket to scout for a wedding venue months back and after visiting a few shortlisted resorts, we found Khun Bat, our wedding coordinator most patient and helpful. She was very accommodating and reassuring during the planning phase. Even on the day itself, she was also ready to act on our eleventh hour requests. Kudos to the Khun Bat and the staff of The Surin.

A word of caution to those who are not that fit, the staircases kill. After climbing the stairs for a couple of days, we were quite physically beaten. Nonetheless, we have absolute no regrets in choosing The Surin as the place which we held the most important affair of our lives. The place just gave us so many good memories and we look forward to our next visit back.

Room Tip: rooms near to the lobby are better for those who wanted to avoid too much staircases.

Dear Guests,

Firstly I would like to thank you for choosing The Surin for your wedding day.
Khun Bat is indeed one of the best party organizers you could happen to meet and we are grateful to have such a wonderful person in our team. Our team loves organizing weddings and there is indeed a special atmosphere at work on the wedding day. We are very sorry about the sound system issue, the first time we had this technical fault and surely the last.

We look forward to welcoming you back to The Surin soon.

Warm regards,

Antonio Saponara

I just returned from The Surin having stayed there for 5 nights with my husband and really enjoyed it. We stayed in a Hillside Cottage, which is the most basic room.
Good Points:
• The grounds are lush, tropical and private. Privacy is important to us there is nothing worse than people walking past and being able to see you lying in bed.
• The beach is the best beach in Phuket (we drove to most of them and have been to Phuket before) It's private, clean, has waves (but not rough) and the beach touts do not hassle you like they do at most beaches in Thailand.
• The breakfast spread was pretty impressive but I think this is standard at most Thai resorts.
• Great Thai service and hospitality as you would expect.

Room for Improvement:
• The beach towels look like they had seen better days being ragged with holes - they need to be replaced! This is poor for a luxury hotel but a minor point. They ran out without being replaced a few times and I had to go and ask for them.
• It would have been nice to be able to order drinks from your pool or beach lounger (having said that they did come around with fruit and treats every now and then)
• The food was good, but not as good as it could have been (re room service and lunch at the sunset bar) There are a lot of restaurants at Surin Beach (the next beach over)

The decor is Thai minimalist and our shower and toilet was small but I really loved the fact that they have lots of room in the bathroom for you to put your suitcase and hang your clothes etc (one side for each person) so happy to sacrifice the size of the shower and loo. Also we were in the cheapest room so were not expecting to have a lot of space. We did have to climb a lot of stairs to get to the room but we were happy to get the exercise and were rewarded with the blissful air con. The potted orchids in the rooms were a lovely touch.

Overall I would recommend The Surin and go back again.

Room Tip: Ask for one that is not too high up with less steps

Without wanting to sound like a broken record the Surin truly feels like your own piece of paradise. We had stayed at the Chedi 3 years ago and were keen to return to the post-renovation Surin. While the lovely teak feeling of the Chedi has been replaced with smart gray/white it feels clean and fresh, and the understated elegance that we loved still remains. We stayed 4 nights in a Beach Suite and it was one of the best holiday experiences we’ve had.

Beach: clean white soft powder, the water is crystal blue. It feels private (even though it isn’t), and as early risers we had the beach to ourselves for several hours each morning. We took out a kayak and went snorkelling and swimming before breakfast – magic. Having all the water sports gear included is great – use what you want when you want. We were there at full moon which meant a couple of days of our stay had large, quite rough surf - so if you want calm water maybe avoid full moon – or grab a boogie board and enjoy 

Food: The only negative comment we had was the food in the Thai restaurant. The curries were fresh and the flavours good, but we felt the serves were overly small. Given one of the dishes was a vegetable curry the serve size seemed unnecessarily mean, and the quality and generosity of the seafood curry didn’t compare well at all with other places we ate on the island. We didn’t object to paying the premium to enjoy dining within the hotel (in fact we had planned to eat at the hotel because of the variety of restaurants available), but after this we ventured out on the following nights and ate at Surin beach (10 min walk away) or the main street outside the hotel. The hotel appeared to be well occupied (judging by the breakfast crowd), but seeing all the restaurants so empty each night, maybe some review is needed as to why people are choosing to head out at night.

The breakfast, on the other hand, is stunning – one of the best we’ve experienced anywhere. You need to stay several days to try all the different things on offer. We particularly loved the asian selection for breakfast, the ‘egg/pancake station’ cook was terrific, and we haven’t previously found pastries that buttery soft and perfect outside of France.

Staff: We really want to make comment about the staff – they were uniformly excellent, friendly and helpful and are justifiably proud of their lovely hotel – a reflection on a happy team under the new management and a very visible GM perhaps?? Particular note re Chak (and his delightful breakfast team) – an employee from the former Chedi-days who is a terrific example of the friendliness, warmth and genuine hospitality offered here that sets the Surin a cut above.

Room Tip: Note that some of the Beach Suites have groupings of sunloungers in front of them, so your ocean view from your room and terrace may be through these. The beachfront rooms at the south end of the bay appeared the most private (? Grand deluxe).

Perfectly situated on the ostensibly private Pansea beach shared only with the Amanpuri, which seems to have the lesser deal here as its guests are stuck in one corner while the Surin spreads itself the remaining length. Beach is clean and deep and waves in early November were good enough for some surfing.

But the hotel itself is rather stark and unwelcoming. Unusually, the photos posted by reviewers make the rooms look more inviting than they actually are - unless grey-painted wood and grey marble is your kind of decor. Lobby and restaurant likewise seem to aim for Aman's everything-in-its-proper-place style but the effect is rather austere and soulless.

Beds were also a surprise - our double looked and felt like little more than a couple 3-star singles pushed together.

So not much to enthuse about inside but frankly as the criticisms are largely a matter of taste and as the whole point of coming here is Pansea beach, the location more than makes up for the rest.

Room Tip: The beachfront cottages easily the best choice if money allows.

lots of comments seem to be repeated so wanted to try and add something fresh. There are certain subtle qualities here that one needs to give some space to allow it to manifest to fully appriecate. ie the local people who sell massages and drinks, tours on the beach far from being an irritation , are charming and in all cases polite and respectful. The Thai staff at the Surin...all seem to have -for lack of better word- a sense of ownership of the resort..a lovely reserved pride, not something we have seen at other top end resorts in Thailand -where they are "separate" from the often european management. We liked this aspect very much. I think what I am trying to say is that if you arrive here and somehow the room, staff, resort isnt quite right or whatever, just give it 24hrs and let the magic happen..it will happen! these Thai staff know hospitality and you may well end up feeling privileged to be looked after by them as we did.

a few tips;try the seafood places on the beach in the bay just south of the resort, its walking distance, just walk out the front of Surin turn right(south) 200m you'll see a row of lanterns leading the way to the beach, follow these but choose the eating places on the beach side and the most southern point, for the best Thai food , cool music and atmosphere.

Charter a longtail and go snorkelling off Koh Wae about 800 bht an hour includes boat and gear drinks etc..fabulous. afterwards visit the massage girls in the street outside Surin, turn right out the front walk 400m there are two massges places next to each other choose the one on the southern side and ask for Ushara...bliss.
if you are that way inclined, visit the Soi Dog Foundation nearby and make a donation, they are angels and do wonderful work looking after the injured animals there.

Room Tip: all the rooms have there positives and negatives...just go with the flow and chillax baby!
