We spent a week here in August and simply cannot say enough about the place. It's not only the pick of resorts in the Laguna district, it struck us as the ideal balance of Phuket as a whole.

The resort has (relatively) recently reopened after a refit was undertaken by the new operators (Outrigger) and it is glorious. The rooms are spacious, well set out and most accommodating for more than a few days. The day-bed area in the window alcove is the size of a double bed and can easily be fitted as a bed for kids to share the same room.

The pool is magnificent and the waterslide certainly got a workout from our small family. The twice a day visit from Candy the baby elephant was wonderful. Every resort needs its own baby elephant, surely?

Recreational opportunities were just enough to keep us busy. The watersports are moved to the lagoon in the off-season (small waves at the beach), which is imperfect but far from devastating. The equipment is in good repair and fund to use (cats, kayaks, stand up paddle boards, etc). There's an indoor tennis court, the archery range was fun, the area is good (flat) for riding the hired bicycles (new) and the shuttle bus to other resorts in the development allows for a bit of adventure.

The food options onsite are good - but resort priced. If breakfast isn't included in your rate (most appeared to have it included - wed didn't), you can order from an a la carte menu which is reasonable (the baker is phenomenal - eat baguette!). The menu at the pool grill is a bit limited after a few days. Dinner in the restaurant is quite high end with prices to match. Alternative options include the Thai restaurant on the beach (not owned by the hotel) or a free taxi arranged by the restaurants in the nearby village of Cherntalay (same price as the beach, but a change of scenery).

It's around half an hour by vehicle into the bustle of Patong. I wanted suits made, so contacted a Patong tailor before leaving Australia. They arranged for a driver to pick us up and return us to the hotel twice which worked out well.

All three of us agree that this was the best resort holiday we've ever enjoyed. Can't recommend it more highly.

Thanks so much to new manager, Jim, and his fabulous team!

Room Tip: Go for the beach wing rather than the lagoon wing - but all rooms seemed pretty good.

Stayed here after being in Patong for two nights and was a haven. Beautiful new resort and great large rooms. Baby elephant visits twice a day. Truly peaceful place away from the craziness of Phuket.
Stayed in the club room area overlooking the lagoon.

We had a last minute trip to Phuket, choose the Outrigger Laguna from seeing other reviews. Best decision ever, resort is all that people have said and more. Staff are amazing, had a smile for you every day. From the moment we arrived to the moment we left we felt special.

Stayed in a Club room with sea view, drinks and canapes each night did not disappoint.

Would not hesitate to go again.

We (Me, wife & 5 yr daughter) have just come from Outrigger a day back and are strongly missing our stay there. This trip was specifically gifted for my 5 year old daughter who had little tough time past 1 month because of some medical issue. I wanted to give her a perfect enjoyable holiday so that she could forget the month and love her papa back who forced her to do medical activities which no kid would like.

And yes we all had an almost perfect holiday at this resort.

We stayed from 13th - 18th October. It took us 20 minutes to reach hotel from Airport. The moment we entered the Laguna area we realized that the place is pretty quite and full green. The Staff was absolutely hospitable. They would always greet you with a smile and a Thai word (Swadeeka). Even my little daughter started doing Swadeeka (By joiing hands) whenever she was greeted. It was a delight to watch.

Children above 4 - 12 years have to pay 50% for the breakfast, however at the time of check in, our attendant offered the same as free for my kid, which was quite special. They also offered us to upgrade our room to beach front on a concession, which I didn't choose. Check in was smooth and the moment we entered our room we got really glad as the view of Lagoon was so awesome.

The resort is right on the beach with lovely neat pools. The beach is not at all crowded and the view is awesome. You can have a perfect play with your familiy there. Resort is adjoined with a lake which again has a beautiful view. There is a ferry every 20 minutes which is free and takes one around whole laguna area. One can go shopping in Canal village which ferry takes you through.

Pool water is very clean and maintained. Temperature is also perfect. The pool has got a slide which is quite a fun. Adjoining the pool area on the left is a remote village where you will get 2 very good restaurants (Aloma sea food and TomYam goong). Tom yam Goong is bit expensive but their food is great. Aloma is also very good but they take long time in preparation, its comparitively cheaper of the two.

Resort offers few sports activities for free of which Kayaking is must to do. They will give you a lesson. There is a dedicated timetable for many other activities like Sailing, windsurfing.
Along with that everyday baby elephant arrives at resort from 9.30 - 10AM and 3-4PM and he is a hot among the kids. My daughter just loved that. We have almost 100 pics of elephant with her.

The resort is about 3 KM away from the local town, so incase if one has to do local shopping you need to take taxi which is bit expensive. Hotel also offers a bus at dedicated time but again its quite expensive. While returning from town one can hire tuk-tuk which we got for 100 Baht (Negotiated from 200 ;) ) from near Tesco.

Every night lovely songs would be played live in the lobby and main central area with candle lights which is very soothing.

All N All it was a perfect holiday where we forgot all our daily routine, stressed life and the whole family just enjoyed, specially my daughter for which this whole program was booked.

Plus points of resort:
1) Location & View
2) Sports activities
3) Hospitality & Staff
4) Interaction with Laguna area and other 4 resorts around by Free shuttle and Ferry.
5) Spacious rooms
6) Good Service

Things that needs improvement
1) Breakfast is bit expensive considering the variety. Specially for vegetarians.
2) Kids club a bit disappointment as not enough activities for kids (But anyway who wants to go in there when we have so many other things to do)
3) Bit expensive Market ride :)

Room Tip: Rooms at beach wing are best to choose as they are close to pool and beach.

We visited Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort as a family of 4 adults & 3 young children.
I believe this resort has raised our expectations for other resorts and hotels.

Check-in was very smooth, perhaps because we visited during the off-peak season and we were the only guests checking in at that time.

It was milk-time for our youngest and the guest-relations officer, Fang, offered to sit us at the lounge and even got hot-water for baby's bottle. Fang checked us in very quickly and gave us a short tour of the resort as she escorted us to our room.

Our room was more than what we expected.
There was a day-bed which suited our two older kids very nicely.
They especially loved the shower area, which was recessed into the floor, a much more interesting idea from the typical bathtubs.

My only two complaints about our room was the noisy air-con and the springy bed.
They solved the squeaky air-con quickly after I made a call to the front-desk.

The kids also loved the one-storey-high water-slide at the pool.
Candy, the two-year-old elephant was also a hit with the children and adults.
She comes with her handler to the platform on the right side of the pool, from 9am to 10am and 3pm to 4pm.
Her handler speaks basic english and is good with children.

The beach was very clean, but the management had red-flagged swimming activities in the sea because of the large waves.

A few small shops at the far left of the pool also sell tidbits, ice-cream and island tours.
There were also two tailors who offered made-to-order full suits and cheong-sams.

A restaurant was located just behind these shops.
It sits on stilts right on the edge of the beach.
The staff spoke simple english, but more than sufficient to take your orders.
I found the older staff were more fluent in English as compared with the younger ones.

I estimated there were about thirty other customers and yet our order was served within ten minutes. That's impressive time, especially with three hungry kids.
You would have to manage your expectations with the taste of the food though.
I felt the Thai food was not much different from what I would get in Singapore.

Prices were reasonable. Our bill came to just over two thousand baht (SGD85) for the seven of us.

Hair-braiding, ala Bob Marley, was another high-light for our girls.
But to find it, we had to walk past the small sundry shops and an open-aired traditional Thai massage parlour.
There was a small air-conditioned restaurant, an al-fresco bar and a few white plastic sun-chairs on the right of beaten path.
We asked the three people there about the hair-braiding service.
A few calls and fifteen minutes later, two ladies were working on two kids' hair.

After an hour and half, their hair was done and we were sixteen-hundred baht poorer.
But the kids loved it.

We were told the shops, the restaurant, the hair-braiding service and even Candy the elephant, are external vendors, which means you can't bring your gripes to the hotel.

All in all, we had an exception experience at the Outrigger Laguna Phuket Beach Resort.
This has become our family holiday destination for our future Phuket adventures.
