“Beautiful resort, flawed service”
Reviewed March 2, 2013 via mobile

My husband and I stayed in a royal villa resort south of Patong for our honeymoon 3 years ago - this time we thought we'd stay north for a change. We knew upon booking our Angsana stay that it was located within a lagoon complex however we found taxi availability was controlled by the resort and expensive if you fancied venturing out. The resort itself is beautiful and certainly vast. The gardens, pools and general grounds are immaculate and the service helpful but not as friendly as we have experienced before.
We stayed in a Laguna Grand room with our 2 year old sleeping in a cot provided by the hotel complimentary. These rooms are the furthest away from the beach and pool area however we did not mind the leisurely stroll back even with our toddler dawdling behind. The bell service is always available with golf carts to drive you wherever you want to go within the resort. Breakfast buffet was plentiful and accommodating to most cuisines and the daily baby elephant visit was always a hit with the kids. The beach is lovely and calm with sun lounges aplenty. There are many shop stalls, masseurs and restaurants located right on the beach. Green Leaf restaurant serves everything from a bacon and egg sandwich to BBQ mud crab. We spent most nights dining at these restaurants to avoid paying resort prices for meals and cocktails. Having said that, we dined at Baan Talay restaurant in the resort on our last night - food was superb! We have never tasted better Thai food anywhere.
We had read rave reviews of Lotus restaurant on this website, our experience there was dreadful. Service was extremely slow (1hr+ for our meals to arrive) one of which was incorrect.
On the whole Angsana is a lovely place to stay. The day spa has execellent masseurs and the babysitting service was wonderful.
The only downsides to our stay were repeatedly having to complain about our leaking air con and the broken bathroom extractor fan. These issues created constant condensation on the tiles in our room and dampness in our sheets. Our concern of potential injury to our toddler on the wet surfaces was raised several times but the issue was never resolved and no compensation offered. Our other grievance was upon check out when we saw a further charge of 1900THB for transfer to the airport despite previous email correspondence stating " @ 1800THB for arrival & departure transfer". Despite having the email in hand staff disputed this and we were left with no option but to pay up due to the absence of outside taxis.
Unfortunately this left us peeved and although we enjoyed our time at Angsana we will most likely stay elsewhere next time.

The hotel itself is very nice and well located. The only drawback is the newly opened beach
club which is very noisy and plays loud music from morning till midnight. It also takes
half of the size of the beach which leaves the hotel guests with a very densed beach area.
Market place for breakfast is a no go. Food is very poor quality and the restaurant is packed in the morning.

All the services (including dinning, room service, front desk service, cleaniness) are excellent.

I think the location of the hotel is quite far away from the town and the traveling expenses is very expensive, it would be great if there is free shuttle picking us to the town.

Anyway, I must choose Angsana again for sure!

Location is fantastic on a long beach, dotted with little restaurants, which will mostly offer excellent local food, and perfect for long walks, jogs and swimming with young kids. Golf nearby - a fantastic course with (unfotunately for me), lots of water.
Although the place is huge, it is pretty well set out, with excellent pools and bars. The size does make you feel you are losinig some local flavour. The people are genuinely friendly, service orientated and enthusiastic, although some would need a bit more training.
The food and variety is excellent, sometimes on the expensive side, but restaurant location make up for the price - you pay for the view.
Would have like to see more sporting activities in the resort. The Hotel does offer a good day trips catalogue, but some of them - to the Islands for example - are way too crowded. Maybe better to set off on your own.
Great for kids though with the resident elephant, and if you are a (young) couple, there are more than enough quiet spots to reconnect.
Would absolutely recommend this place, especially if wanting to have a sure and hassle free chill out. 4.5 is probably the right rating.

They even have their own elephants which are absolutely amazing!!! swim up bar, awesome beach club with great tunes... great seafood resturants on the beach!!! dont go to patong - eat here... breakfast was confusing as there was sooo much great food... we loved it here! :0

Staying here for five days as part of our honeymoon. When they knew it was our honeymoon, we were upgraded to a magnificent villa.
Staff are very professional and helpful.
Nothing seems too hard for them to cater for.
Relaxing amazing location
Not far from shops and other restaurants , so easy to have many choices dor meals.
Huge pool area !and right next to a great beach.
We are 3 nights into a magificent holiday experience. .alot of it due to this angsana resort.

Everything was excellent: location, friendliness of staff, retaurant variety and quality of food, beach access, cleanliness etc. etc.
We were there for the Phuket Ironman Tri, and despite being fully booked it never felt like crowded; yes' its a big resort, but very well-organized
