I have stayed 9 times at this beautiful JW Marriott hotel since 2001. It is located on the very quiet Mai Khao beach just north of the airport on Phuket island. It is about 45 minutes to 60 minutes in a taxi or the hotel shuttle bus to Phuket town or the Central Festival Shopping Mall. Patong beach is another 30 minutes further south. The nice thing about staying here is the 7 miles of unspoilt, empty beach! You only ever see a few dozen people on the entire beach, so it is an entirely different experience compared to touristy Patong beach. The resort is spread out over many acres of land so never feels crowded. 7 restaurants onsite offer Italian, Thai, Japanese, and International Western cuisine. 3 huge pools, one with a swim up bar, and a kids club in another. 1 pool is adults only. Tennis courts and huge Spa, and full range of water sports and beach activities, including a daily choice of organised activities. Amazing staff that anticipate your every need. Gorgeous rooms in traditional Thai style decor. Very large 2 bedroom, 2 bathroom villa apartments with a full kitchen and laundry. They will even come and cook a BBQ for you on your terrace if you wish. These are excellent for familes or groups of friends as they can sleep 6 adults. The food is really world class and as it is priced in Thai Baht and not in USD it is extremely good value compared to the other deluxe hotels in Phuket which all charge in USD for meals. New Year and the Easter periods are always full, so the restaurants are full each night, but they have a restaurant booking desk set up in the lobby during the day to help you out. The Siam Deli serves inexpensive Thai and Western light meals. The Spa is amazing but you should book all your treatment time slots prior to arrival or on your first day, especially during the peak periods. This JW Marriott has the Marriott timeshare Vacation Club villas built in to the hotel resort. Highly recommend this resort hotel to couples, families, and friends travelling together. The ONLY negative is that it takes over 1 hour to reach Patong for the night market and night life, so don't stay here if you want to spend your time in and around Patong. On the otherhand, it suits me fine as you get the beach to yourself. The staff are amazing and really make your stay enjoyable.

As many other reviews say, this hotel is not for you if you want nearby bars, clubs, shops etc but if you want a relaxing holiday it is just right. The buildings and grounds are well maintained and the staff are very good, nothing is too much trouble for them. The rooms are large with good clean bathrooms with a bath and shower. The maids do a great job every day and provide a couple of free bottles of drinking water, however when by the pools there is a constant supply of ice cold water brought to you. The pools are clean with plenty of beds.
If you want wifi then sign up for a free "Marriotts rewards" card a couple of weeks before you leave, this will give you free good wifi throughout the resort even on the beach or by the pools, otherwise the cost is very high.
Food is varied but the grill near the beach is very good but pricey, the free breakfast is very good with a decent choice.
I recommend seeing as much of the island as you can, taxis are all controlled by the Mafia so can be expensive but are well run. Reception will book you a local taxi and agree the price for you. It is worth booking a return as the driver will wait for you for 3 hours and take you back to the hotel, no messing about looking for another taxi. The roads are mad, if you have seen "Top Gear UK" where they rode motor bikes in Vietnam then it is the same, madness!
It is worth a 5 min walk to Turtle Village for much cheaper but good food and drink or ice creams and a look in a few local shops including a supermarket downstairs.
September is in the middle of the rainy season and has heavy rain most days but there is also long spells of sunshine, it is always hot.

Room Tip: We had a ground floor room as it has a patio with sun loungers

We did enjoy our stay at this Jw . It is located on a lovely quiet beach at the North end of Phuket . While we were very happy with the service and found the staff very helpful we had no idea that it was such a long way to other attractions on the Island . For example , it took us nearly one hour to get to Patong from the Hotel and taxis in Phuket were quite a lot more expensive than those we had used in Bangkok . Expect to pay 700 Baht each way from the JW Marriott to Patong .
The pool at the JW Marriott and the Japanese restaurant they have there are amazing and the days we spent at the Hotel were very memorable .

Our family of 4 spent 7 nights at this large comfortable resort. The beds were comfortable and the rooms large. We had two garden view rooms which was more than adequate. The benefit of having a baby elephant to interact with during the day, made it that much more memorable.
The buffet breakfast was exquisite and having it included in the room rate, an absolute bonus. The food at the other restaurants also great.

Cooking school is a great way to spend a morning.

The resort is quite away from the action (approx 30-40 mins drive from Patong) if that is what you want, but for us being away from the hustle and bustle made it that much more relaxing.

The staff where really friendly and more than willing to help us, organise our days/trips.

Great family holiday!

This is a large sprawling resort on the far northwest coast of Phuket next to a very quiet and beautiful beach. We stayed in an Oceanfront suite on the first floor which was very comfortable with a large bathroom and wrap-around terrace. Although built only in 2001, the resort is starting to show its age in some places and the décor in the rooms and bathrooms are a now a bit dated. The restaurants are all good; we were impressed by the Thai food at Ginja Taste and the quality of the food in the Italian restaurant. There is an all-day dining restaurant serving breakfast, lunch and on some evening a themed dinner buffet as well as a Deli open all day. Top of the range is the Andaman Grill which does lobster, steak and seafood but you certainly pay for the pleasure of eating there. Five minute walk from the resort is the Turtle Village which has a small supermarket, some shops and an English Pub. There are three pools; the main family pool full of screaming kids and two quieter pools; the North Pool is supposed to be for adults only although this was not policed particularly well by the pool staff who seemed quite happy for the odd family with toddlers or small children playing in the pool. The resort is really in the middle of nowhere; there are a couple of other resorts nearby but apart from that it is a long way away from anything else in Phuket. If we were to come back to Phuket, we would certainly consider staying here again.
