JW Marriott Phuket Resort & Spa
Ranked #2 of 15 Hotels in Mai Khao
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed July 2, 2011

We stayed at a 2 bedroom villa at JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa, Mai Khao, Phuket, Thailand for 5 days and 4 nights.
The villas are generously spaced and airy. Big comfy beds and bathrooms, with kitchenette, fridge, washing machine and dryer.
3 main pools catering for families with kids, couples wanting quiet time alone or for just swimming.
We loved Kabuki, the Japanese restaurant and Ginja Taste, the Thai restaurant, that was on the resort property. Food was excellent but pricely. You must try the teppanyaki @ Kabuki, the chef is excellent and entertaining as well!
The service at this resort was excellent. We asked for drinking water for our villa and it came almost immediately after we put down the phone. The buggy services from our villa, at the remote end of the property, to the main lobby and dining areas, was prompt and easy to use.
We didn't like the lack of beach sports / activities. Getting to Patong or Phuket Town from the resort in Mai Khao was also troublesome. Each journey took at least 1 hour, one way, from the resort.
Just outside this resort is Turtle Village where less expensive food at The Coffee Club, beer and drinks @ Bill Bentley can be found. A mini-mart is there if you need to get something that you may have forgotten. Also, we liked the Green Angel Spa @ Turtle Village that we had 3 days of wonderful massages there. The resort provides free shuttle bus services to Turtle Village or you can take a slow 15 mins walk there.
I would recommend JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa for anyone wanting to spend a relaxing time with your better half, or with the kids.
But if you are the type of traveller who likes to move around, the location of JW Marriott Phuket Resort and Spa put it at a disadvantage, especially if you like going into Patong or Phuket Town for shopping and dinning.

Room Tip: The villas at the new wing are quieter.

We stayed for 5 nights in JW Marriot in Puket in March 2011. The resort is absolutely beautiful. Honestly this is the perfect place when you want to enjoy a resort and have no plans to go out. You have everything you need in here. The buffet breakfast is delicious, the Thai restaurant has the best Thai Fine Cuisine I have ever tried. The Beef restaurant along the beach is not worthy at all, it is ridicules expensive and they don’t give you good meet at all. However they have grill sea food that looks good and fresh. They also have babysitting service which work perfectly. We manage to have romantic dinners and night outs thanks to the nanny service. They also have plenty activities you can enjoy for free, such as Yoga Classes, Running by the beach , circuit training etc.., very nice to wake up early and start your day with lots of energy. Drinks in the terrace looking at the sunset..spectacular. But as I said, if you are planning to go to Puket for Touring , it is a very expensive place. In my opinion, this place is worthy if you have plans of enjoying all the facilities and activities, otherwise there are plenty hotels with great quality and much cheaper.

JW Marriott is an excellent family resort. The pools well designed. The food, pricey, but very good. One can eat at the Marriott Mai Khao restaurant, Thai delights, slighly cheaper than others. And a visit to nearby village for less priced thai food. The best breakfast we have had. The kids loved the pool, actiivties in the kids club. Massage on the beach reasonably priced. The thai dance amazing , the dancers even took pictures with us. The beach is however not the best in Phuket. Very close to the airport and very far from Patong. Excursions cost a bit more because out of the way pick up. But its worth it and very good overall.

We stayed at JW Marriott Phuket's one bedroom suite for six days. Our suite has a great surround view of the sea, palm trees and hotel pools on the quiet wing of the property.... It's perfect for a couple to enjoy a nice and relaxed vacation!

The suite has a very generous outdoor balcony with lounge chairs and other outdoor furniture, the room is well lit with natural sunlight from ceiling-to-floor glass windows and doors, the bathroom is very spacious with an indoor hexagonal tub and very nice bay windows with great views.... There is also a very large walk-in closet with plenty of hangers and space for his and her clothing, and a nice dressing table.... The room also has a wide flat-screen TV and good size desk with Internet connection, just in case the sun is too much and you want to stay inside your suite.

The Resort has multiple restaurants serving different cuisines, including Thai, Japanese and Italian. Though these outlets are not all open every night, but we can only dine at one outlet at a time anyways.... The buffet breakfast is excellent, with a wide selection of food and beverages, including fresh coconut juice served in original coconut shells - a very fresh and nice treat in the morning!

The only downside is there isn't much outside of the Resort, it's about an hour's ride each way to Phuket town or Patong Beach, so you may find crying babies and loud families dining at the Resort's candle-lit restaurants, where you'd hope you could enjoy a quiet evening....

There's a very long beach right in front of the Resort with a spectacular view, but a red-flag was hoisted for all six days we were there, so it's dangerous to swim in the choppy sea. As there is also a steep gradient from the Resort leading to the beach, it is not too "walker-friendly" to take nice, easy strolls down to the beach....

Having said that, if you do not mind to eat-in at the Resort for all meals, and pay the additional service charge and VAT, you're guaranteed to have good food and service at the JW Marriott Phuket! And it is definitely a very nice property with well manicured grounds for everyone to enjoy!

My husband and I arrived past midnight, for a 3-night stay, and could not take in all the splendor of the property. Our standard room, booked with points, was near the pool and a quick hop from the beach. It was very spacious, beautifully decorated in a perfect blend of local charm and modern comforts.

In the morning, hurrying to our diving ride, we had a quick glimpse of the property: what an amazing oasis of calm, beauty and luxury! The day after, we were able to take full advantage of all JWM resort had to offer. A sumptuous breakfast at the tastefully decorated restaurant, which offers guests all possible Asian and Western options, was followed by the ultimate relaxation. Lazy hours at the beach, an indulging beach-side massage [not price-wise, but the skillful, leisurely service], followed by more lounging at the pool in the tree shade, with efficient snack and beverage service.

The resort offers options for families and couples: a fantastic play & pool area for kids, as well as a relaxing, tranquil pool area for adults. The latter has a swim-up bar, with an off-the-roof waterfall, which further enhances the state of relaxation as you laze on a comfy chaise. Also for fun -- try one of the "water beds": a lounging area IN THE POOL with water jets and bubbles!... For lunch, you have options of picking up something from a food “shack” on the beach, getting a quick bite at the bistro, or enjoying a more leisurely meal at the restaurant.

Bottom line – luxury, ambience, service, accommodations – all absolute top notch.

Very good Marriott propriety.

I'm rating it average for one major reason, the check-in / out process wasn't up to the Marriott standard and we where disappointed especially by the lack of care on our arrival.

Food on site was excellent, they very nice large pools and the propriety is right on a very long nice beach.

I would go back again, but Im in the hope they will be better on the check in.

When we decided to go to Phuket on an off-season, we knew we had to be put up in a hotel that offers variety of facilities so that we dont miss out when it rains. So we were stuck with 2 options - Laguna and Marriott. Though both are away from the happening south beaches, we finally decided to go with Marriott - thanks to my membership card. It was just awesome 3D/4N stay - we had booked 2 deluxe ocean facing rooms on 3rd floor for 4 of us. Right from the pickup from the airport all the way till the check-out, it was just so relaxing.

The rooms were very quite big and nice. I liked the way the bathroom opens up to the rest of the room. We had a decent view from the balcony - it was very relaxing to sit there and listen to the waves. Being Marriott members, we had free wi-fi so I didnt miss on the social networking and my mails.

I loved their pools and hydrabaths. The private beach didnt disappoint either. A little walk to the turtle market was good - added some good surfing stuffs to the wardrobe from Ripcurl.

Eating options are endless and varied. Being picky vegeterians, we didnt find any trouble at all. The staffs were warm and accomodative almost all the time. Our favourite hangout was Siam Deli. Everytime, we ordered off the menu but the food came just as we wished. Especially we loved the breakfast of Museli with fried coconut and Thai veggie porridge. Must admit never tasted anything like that before. Though we wanted to try the buffet breakfast in the Marriott Cafe, we always turned up late and one time, I felt the waitress was curt on us and turned us back as it was 15 mins before closing time. Cuclna had good pizzas. Staff were so courteous and happy to take our special request to for an anniversary celebration.

There were lots of activities planned for the guests like yoga sessions, pilate s, towel folding, Muay thai for beginners etc. Again we just didnt plan for these and they require atleast 1-day advance booking. They were running full most of the time when I called. Gym was good with all-new equipments. Wanted to try our hands on tennis but we ran out of time. So is the Spa. I am sure we are going to be back sometime.
