We are vacation club owners and so stayed in the owners section. Fantastic two bedroom suite......we had requested a view and the first room we had been given didn't have. Staff where really accommodating in moving us to another room. Quality of the suite was great both rooms en suite however the main bedroom had a really large bath, double sinks etc. found it really good that the little things like washing up liquid and washing powder where provided along with water restocked daily.
Hotel staff where fantastic, poolside team kept your water topped up throughout the day along with little treats of fruit. Cold facecloths infused with lemongrass where brought to you during the day while you sunbathed. Ordering from the poolside menu was effortless food was superb.
Baby elephants visit the hotel a couple of times a day which all the kids both young and old enjoyed.
We enjoyed a great nite at the Italian restaurant and the Thai restaurant on site. However we found a little local beach eatery just a few mins drive away which was fantastic.
The only fly in the ointment was the service we actually received from the vacation club girls on our arrival....girls to busy chatting with each other and only interested in getting you booked in for another "chat" with MVC .
However this was minor.

Fabulous hotel, superb service, get away from everything and enjoy a peace of heaven.

Our family of 4 loves Phuket and for the past few years, we have usually ended our annual lengthy Phuket vacations at Marriott's Mai Khao Beach Resort. This time, we thought we'd try the Phuket Beach Club next door. The JW Marriott and The Marriott Phuket Beach Club are on the same premises and share 3 pools and other amenities. I guess the difference lies with which accommodation type you have booked for. The Marriott Mai Khao beach resort is on a different property, guest there cannot use the pools at the JW.

Check in was done swiftly, and in no time, I was driving behind the bell hop in his buggy over to the North gate. I had requested to be near Turtle Village mall, because of the Swensen's ice cream parlor there, so this block by the North gate was perfect! Extra points that the car park was right next to our block too! It made it easier to unload groceries.

We knew that the layout of the 2 bedroom units here would be similar to Marriott Mai Khao Beach Resort, but it seemed more cosy here. The flooring here is a combination of darker wood flooring and brick coloured tiles, whereas the other resort has modern looking big smooth white tiles and light coloured parquet. Maybe the flooring made a difference, or maybe it was the fantastic green view from the living room/balcony, but it was wonderfully tranquil and serene here.

As pointed out in the other reviews, our 2 bedroom unit was as most people have described, and we were very happy as usual, to spend a week in our home away from home. The big difference between this resort and other one is the landscape. It was truely impressive and so beautiful. The landscape architect did a fabulous job with the design of harmonizing the colours and the placement of the many varieties of plants, sizes of stones, rocks and the stream that ran in front of our balcony. This hotel feels like it's built in a botanical garden! Please take a walk by the giant pond within the premises near the North wing! If you enjoy photography, you can certainly get good garden pictures here, and nice beach photos at the other side. This resort also offers more privacy from the balcony, unlike the other resort where you can see people looking at you looking at them from your balcony!

Food wise, we preferred to eat very casually dressed at the family run eateries about 1.3 km away. Directions: with your back facing the main JW marriott gate, turn RIGHT, just follow the road, it will make two 90 degree turns and you will eventually see a small row of shops BEFORE the Renaissance hotel. We preferred the corner restaurant, the one closer to the lake. It has no prominent sign board but it is called "Krua Parichart" restaurant. The food was authentic, delicious and I am sure is the reason why I must've gained some weight this past week. The various family members who served us were quietly hospitable. Prices are decent enough. Fish cooked in any style is 80Bahts/100g. Other seafood was more/less in that price range too. The green chicken curry was home cooked and delicious!!! fried rice was 80Bahts, and for those of you who want to know, fried rice costs 50Bahts at the Tesco food court and 350++Bahts for hotel room service. I have a tween daughter who is always hungry so I always had some in the fridge to microwave when required! The down side of the beach eateries are the flies (we were kept busy while eating LUNCH, trying to wave them away), but since none of us had any upset stomach after eating there, we just continued eating there! The owner was very nice and tried to deal with the fly problem by lighting mosquito coils and turning on a fan to blow them away. Tip: No flies at dinner time! Guess flies are not nocturnal! Best to drive or rent a motorbike, (available at same row of stalls for aprox 350 bahts/day) since it IS 1.3km away and dark/lonely at night. Last resort would be to borrow /rent a bicycle from the hotel? Our meals consisted mainly of 3-4 main dishes and with drinks, cost around 1000-1300 bahts.

Back at the hotel, we fell in love with Lucky, the 2 yr old resident elephant! He is so adorable, playful and friendly, my girls spent hours bonding with him. Remember to bring some money to buy bananas and cucumbers to give Lucky a treat! I am sure my girls want a pet elephant now, good thing you can't just buy one at a pet shop!

We're usually at Mai Khao beach in Nov/Dec. The water always looks too rough, they say there are strong undertows, so beware! The sand is rough and the beach a little steep. Maybe it's rough because this is the end of the rainy season. I would recommend going to Surin beach instead for beach fun and than coming to Marriot Mai Khao for some serious R&R. One thing though, it was nice to look out at the horizon and not see a single ship! An unusual sight for someone from Singapore! ( S'pore has one of the busiest ports in the world, at any one time, there are hundreds of container ships in the waters dotting the horizon.)

Lastly, driving distances from the hotel.
Marriott phuket beach club is:

Aprox 2 km from nearest "I don't know what brand", but there are 2 RED petrol pumps outside the convenience store that's right next to the popular Kin Dee Restaurant turn. (Make a U-turn before Sarasin bridge and look out for it soon after.)

13.5km to South bound Shell gas station.
23.5km to Tesco
34km to Premium Outlet Mall
41km to Central Festival Mall

Tip: The extreme left lane on the expressway is for motorbikes or vehicles about to turn off. Middle lane is for slower moving vehicles. Extreme right is for overtaking and people who drive fast. Give way to all the tailgating, speeding tourists vans going to/coming from the airport, they are in a hurry, you are on vacation, and it's just not worth it anyway!

Negatives: The hotel, while fabulous, is far from the busy shopping area and colorful nightlife that Patong has, so not suitable for some. This place is nice for spending quality time with family & friends, lazing around doing nothing, getting some serious R&R AWAY from the tourist crowd in other parts of Phuket.

The Anantara Vacation club resort is currently under construction accross the road from our block at the North gate. There are construction vehicles rumbling by now and then together with some construction noise, but it was bearable and didn't really bother us though some people might prefer a quieter block.

Bottom line: we like this resort better than the Marriot Mai Khao beach resort. I enjoyed the botanical garden feel and added privacy. We'll return next year to see how much Lucky has grown in a year!

Villas are excellent. Pools superb. Service standards as good as it gets. Very 5 star, stay here if you get the chance. Best Marriott vacation club in their portfolio. Restaurant prices are ott so eat outside if you can. Use south pool it is quieter.

Room Tip: Ask for block 344 room

I and my wife stayed here last year after we were recommended by a friend who was a member there. Right from the airport pick up till the airport drop we had a great time. We were given a 02 bedroom ground floor villa with our own plunge pool which was fantastic. The villa was fully equipped with fully furnished kitchen and washing machine etc.
The staff was excellent and made our stay very comfortable. We recommend this place for a vacation to every one specially with a family.
The best thing was that it was all free to us ( ask if you want to know how?)
