Am IHG platinum and was upgraded to a pool access jr suite. The staff was extremely welcoming and this is a perfect hotel for a weekend retreat or to get away from it all.

The only drawback is the location virtually requires you use a car.

The front desk staff was extremely friendly and helpful.

Check in was quick and seamless. The staff were very friendly, polite and respectful especially Detch who went out of his way to ensure everything was up to par during our stay. The room (kids suite) was great and out kids loved it. The grounds were well maintained. The pool was nice as there were very few people using it. The kids club had lots of activities for our kids which they enjoyed (although we never left them there alone). The breakfast buffet was excellent for us with alot of food options. Lots of activitiies for the family. We will definitely return to this hotel during our next visit to Phuket.

The only downside for us was the beach which was dirty and the water was rough.

We stayed at the Holiday Inn Mai Khao in Mar 2013 for 4 days 3 nights and it is one of our best beach vacation. The hotel room was huge and faces the central open space of the resort, and the children bunk room was a delight; our children were really happy to have their own room, and their own chosen duvet covers and linen! Very good attention to details (the hotel emailed us before our arrival to ask for our preference for the kids' bed linen). We enjoyed sitting on the couch on the balcony every morning listening to the chirping of the birds and seeing the sky lit up by the rising sun (can't see the sunrise).

There are plenty of free activities that families can enjoy, there's a table tennis table, trampoline, a nice pool and the beach! The sand on the beach is not fine, but that is the nature of the sand at Mai Khao beach. For the price we paid for the room, we are ok to compromise on the sand. :) The beverages at the swim up bar at the pool were reasonably priced, especially during happy hour when we got 1 for 1. Children eat free at the main restaurant which is fantastic, and I find the quality of food good.

There are quite a bit of flies around, and it was quite irritating when we were having a massage on the beach at the beach hut (independent of the hotel). That happened only when the breeze wasn't strong. Some days when the wind was stronger, the flies weren't much of a problem.

Overall this is a very good, beach holiday destination. We didn't need to go anywhere. It provides enough for us to do and to chill. The children club is good with sufficient activities planned activities for the children.

Room Tip: Families with young children should get the family room with the kids bunk!

Nice, quiet beach facing property. Amazing food and good staff. Lot of activities for children ensure you can take out time for yourself. Even there are activities for parents/ adults as well. The entire staff especially Peera, Jack, John, Aeuu, Sai and Datch made our holidays memorable.

Room Tip: Choose a family suite if you are travelling with your kids; it has two bigggg rooms with a common en...

My wife and I have stayed here three times now and we can not recommend it enough. This hotel has the best, most caring and genuinely nice people in it. Sure it is not IN Phuket i.e. paying town, but if you are looking for some peace and relaxation without leaving the resort then look no further. The two restaurants offer fantastic food, the spa centre is excellent and the rooms with private pools are a must. If you are just looking for a long relaxing weekend or week then we recommend this place. Our friends with kids spoke very highly of the kids centre, as did the kids!
We will probably stay here again for a quick getaway break (we live in hong kong)

Room Tip: Pick the rooms with private pool if you can. You get your patio opening onto a pool area and if no o...

We had the pleasure to stay at Holiday Inn Phuket Mai Khao Beach Resort during in late September 2013 (20-25). We booked on a very short notice but thanks to low season we easily got a room. The transfer from the airport to the hotel was short and went smoothly. Against advise of a travel agent we arranged transport at the airport and did not use the hotel to arrange it. That seems to be the cheaper option. Being a relatively new hotel our spacious rooms where all in very good condition housekeeping was doing a very good job in keeping them well. We had the type of room with pool access and that is nice as long as you do not have to worry about small kids drowning themselves. So if you got young kids you might as well save the extra money and opt for a garden access or a room with balcony. The gardens and greeneries were all well maintained and like all other parts of the hotel. The location is far away from the major tourist places and has only limited other restaurants around. Due to the low season and lower number of guests we decided not to try those few places and stayed the entire time in the hotel and used the two restaurants. The Italian one is down at the pool and you nicely sit outside or in an open space environment and look over to the ocean. The other one next door to the reception area is bigger and offers a huge variety of Thai, Asian and Western food. The new executive chef does an incredible job in running his restaurants and despite the huge variety of choices both kitchens always served excellent food. That is complimented with an very friendly team which goes out of its way to make the guest feel welcome. That starts with the executive chef (who does not shy away from giving a helping hand and greeting the hotel guests) and his restaurant chefs to the restaurant and bar managers to each single waiter and waitress. They really thrive with families with young children and having a one year old daughter made this stay with the help of all the team members a stay we love to remember. I do not know how it is in high season but if you have the luxury of travelling when others do not have to that place is a place to go for young families. Unfortunately the spa area was under renovation so we only visited the interim solution arranged in some of the hotel rooms. The team is professional but if you do not have the luck of speaking Thai the treatments follow a standard program. Whilst that is of good value I wonder why you have to go through the length of filling out a form where it hurts and where the masseur should focus on when nobody discusses the paper with you. That must improve because my mother (79 years) has a relatively new hip implanted and nicely remarked that on the form but still the masseur worked hard on the hip so that she had to tell her to stop and move to other parts. Lesson here is to speak up and do not trust that the process works.
In summary we, my parents and my in-laws had a great time at this family friendly hotel, excellent food, great staff and good quality accommodation. We do not hesitate recommending it or coming back there again.
Thanks you
Ruediger
