I remembered my first Holiday Inn experience in Miami, Florida....and four decades later. I am back again....

Wow, this is an exciting place to stay...Why? Only 3 months old and everything is so fresh!  The wood work in the rooms, the sheets, the towels, the paint, the a/c - all smell like you just walked into a new home!  Really!  Hmmm...After staying in a few different places on Phuket island, this is a hotel you should highly consider on your list.  Sans molds, fresh paint, clean tile, unscuffed, unstained (smile!) furniture...get it while it's fresh!  Rooms are simple with white birch woods, chairs and large patio doors.  Nice large king bed, very firm (you been advised) with soft and firm pillows.

As a Platinum  member, upgraded to Executive suite, sweet.  Bathroom is big! -- with large shower (2 meters by 2 meters! and large glass walls) enough for 10 people!  Got the top floor, which has its advantages - mainly, it's quieter, good view of sunsets and...less bugs.

Hotel did not have a layout map, but it seems that only a very, very few rooms have a reasonable 'ocean view'.  Maybe only two rooms at the very end near the beach that seem to have a really decent ocean view which is still obstructed by the line of pine trees.  However, there is the pool bar and restaurant just below these balconies.  Surely, the ocean breeze is nice for those rooms on the top floors.  The hotel rooms are angled towards the pool area, not directly facing the ocean (45 degrees).

The North wing gets all the sun, and lots of it in Dec/Jan, so the room can be very bright, and the patios hot.  Nice sunset views too from Top floors.  The South wing is shaded (sunshine atthe back) on the patios, so they tend to be darker inside.  If I had a choice, well, the 7000 or 6000 block, top floor. I stayed in the 8000 block which I think is a bit too close to the front entrance and the busy restaurant; Plus, there are exhaust fans that blow 24/7 (even though I was told otherwise.  (Remember sometimes you got to be firm, but not overly emotional).

There are guest rooms on the ground floor which are really cool if you like to walk out on your patio and wade in a connecting pond-pool.  But, there is a wonderful main pool just by the beach.  That pool is great for kids.  It's got a very shallow (0.0 m to 0.5m) area and a deeper end as well for adults around the bar.

The hotel has a beach area with softer white sand in the wooded area just before the ocean.  The beach is a mix of white fine and fairly coarse tan-colored sand, so it will feel a little rough on your feet and in your pants!  Also, the beach has a rather steep incline with a drop off, so it's not so suitable for small children.  Plus, the waves can be strong too, since the beach is not in a cove or bay like the beaches down south of the airport.

The airport is near, about 15 mins by car.  You can see the larger planes flying to and fro in the distance.  Hotel car to/from airport is 700 baht, and just slightly less if you take the 'private' taxi just outside the hotel's main entrance.  Motorbike is 400 baht/day - 2 times more than average, but this hotel is remote.

Be warned that this hotel is very remote.  The nearest village is 1 km, not an easy walk, but the hotel does provide bikes for free rent!  Take the bike in the morning when it's cooler with a book bag to stock up on snacks and beers.  Why? Because this is a hotel on steroid prices too!  In fact, you will play 5-star hotel prices for everything onsite.

So, for families on a budget, it can add up very quickly!  Then again, if you stay using your P- club points, paying an average 750 baht per person for a meal may not seem too bad.  Maybe eating a late buffet breakfast (500 baht) will help the pocket book too!  Hey, I did not pass up the seafood buffet at 1,100 baht/person though (every Tuesday and Saturday). Oh, yes, there is a very, very small privately-owned local store, called TS, that sells cold drinks and snacks, but at double local prices (the hotel charges 4 or 5 times the local prices though! But everyone knows that, right?)

Remember to bring sun lotion and bug spray!  There are small pesky flies in the wooded area just between the pool and the beach, as well as on the ground level rooms, unfortunately.

Luckily, the hotel isn't yet overly bombarded by Chinese or Indians (Russians also) yet, so the noise levels are fairly reasonable for a larger hotel.  However, there is considerable echoing between the buildings - seems like a design problem.  The pool area, however, stays lively all day and into the evenings because of the bar area, and outdoor movies on the lawn....actually kinda cool.

Overall, a very nice hotel just a bit remote. Beach very quite, wonderful blue water, and a great pool.  As a matter of fact, it out beats the big Westin Siray Bay hands-down big time!  I will be back next year to the Holiday Inn....

This resort is not that large (two restaurants, one pool) but I have been extremely impressed with what this resort offers. The food variety (the buffet generally offers Chinese, Thai and Western fare) is very good but the quality is really the best I've seen. Last nite an excellent seafood buffet was offered- crab, lobster, shellfish, fish all freshly prepared all for 999thb. Which leads me to overall cost. Very fare for what is a solid 4 star resort. The room is modern, clean and I'd say the staff are very conscientious.

The resort has a spa and workout facilities and it also has very spacious games rooms offering pool, table tennis, table soccer, a theatre room and a video game area with PS3's. It also offers free 1/2 hr iPad loaners (rentals available too).

The beach is ok. A little steep with some riptide, but I've seen worst.

The only knocks are staff English could be better.

Highly recommended!

Dear Vic, Thank you very much for taking the time to right your great report and thank you for all of the positive comments and the feedback. Our F&B team have worked hard to ensure value for price and enough variety to keep everyone happy. The beach is wonderful but with the variations in tides it can feel steep at low tide. Happy to report we do not see rips too often except in the wet season especially mid year. You will be delighted to know that english training is in place and we have a native english speaker teacher employed now in our Human Resources team to improve the english of the team.

We hope to see you again soon.

If you want a quiet hotel away from a hustled and busy area and yet a quality level of service and amenties, this is it!! Especially if you are a mom and dad brining your kid together, this hotel offers you with a couple of pain relivers. Long strech of a clean and quiet beach. Because it opened up this Sep.,this hotel doesn't seem to be fully recognized in light of value to money.

Ok so we are still here in Phuket and with 5 days completed on the holiday I have to take a minute to talk about this resort. Mai Khao is not Patong and thanking every bone in my body I did not book in that dump of a place called Patong. We took the hotel shuttle bus to Patong and we just could not handle the hundreds of vendors, suit sellers, street kids, massage girls, the constant smell of sewers and a dump of a beach compared to Mai khao.

So back to the hotel and wow what an experience. We booked this hotel because we liked their website and since we love our Facebook we checked out all that has been going on since they opened and they really hooked us with their active page. Check in was nice with a lemongrass welcome drink and a cold towel to wipe the plane nightmares away! Got a buggy ride to the room with a very funny bellboy who gave us some ideas what to do and loved our room. Good size, fresh feeling, awesome bed, rain shower, and a separate toilet from the bathroom which I like. View looked at the gardens which were filled with a huge variety of plants.

Breakfast is one of the best I have ever seen, fresh, heaps, and really interactive with lots of friendly cooks. Ate lunch once by the pool, drank far too much at happy hour every evening and the dinners in both the restaurants we outstanding. Pesto by the beach serves the biggest portions of food and great value. Back in oz I would be paying a heap more for what we were getting.

Spa was the highlight cause we never thought a holiday inn would have something so good. Sorry but we just were blown away and the lady I think in charge Tik was great.

We are a couple and loved the place. Even though there are a lot of kids for school holidays it seems like they have a heap of fun stuff for kids to keep them occupied.

We will be back and send all our friends.

Room Tip: Use the spa in the resort and book your room with breakfast

First trip to Phuket with my family, great reception and front desk service were very good. It was new resort hotel and very nice rooms and you will like to stay longer there if you would like to relax and away from busy city. Quiet beach and not like Patong place whereby too many business matter over there and noisy. You can't enjoy JetSki which is the best thing to avoid any disturbance from stranger. Excellent service at the kids world. You can leave your kids over there for all day till late evening. Safe and a lot of fun game for kids. Free wifi, nice pool and room. We enjoyed the food there and kids eat free promotion but it will be nice if it comes with complimentary breakfast since I realized I did not entitle for this benefit even I am the platinum priority club member in which I got it from other hotel gold reward. Overall, it is nice place to stay and we certainly to come back to this resort if any upcoming plan.

Room Tip: Lower level floor room either connecting to pool or garden is very good

Thank you so much for your wonderful review of the resort and facilities. We are very happy that you enjoyed your stay and appreciate the feedback you have given. In regards of Platinum Priority Club Member complimentary breakfast, this is not a part of the benefits of a Platinum member but I can assure you after checking your stay all the correct benefits like upgrading and amenities were given to you. In any case I hope that you return soon.
