“Beautiful and relaxing”
Reviewed November 25, 2012 via mobile

Location good if you are looking for a relaxing break away from the hustle and bustle.

We stayed in a detached bungalow with A/C for three nights, found the rooms clean and large. You can hear the waves crashing from the beach out front. The stretch of beach is breath taking, these little bungalows are nestled in between 4 and 5 star hotels so it feels special. Just pick a hammock and chill, there is various restaurants however we ate at the accommodations restaurant which was lovely and more reasonably priced than the neighbouring hotels. The holiday inn next door has evening entertainment and happy hours from 5 - 7.

If you want a few relaxing nights then this little place is a must.

We stayed in an air conditioned room. This is actually a semi-detached bungalow and it had absolutely everything we needed, including effective air con, a big fridge, a kettle and free tea/coffee, big bed with mosquito net, decent bathroom with hot water from the electric shower. It has 2 patio areas, 1 at the rear which overlooks the grounds at the back of the resort and has big sliding glass doors leading to this and the other is at the front, which faces the sea and the lovely gardens. More basic options are available, these looked ok from the outside but I didn't see inside thse bungalows.

The grounds are gorgeous, with lots of space, picnic tables, hammocks, swings and overlooking a wonderful beach and beach chairs are available. Breakfast was good, with very tasty scrambled egg and other meals are avaialble at a very reasonable price. There are also other places to eat, either in the neighbouring hotels (which are more expensive) or at the other bungalow resort just a short walk up the beach or a couple of small restaurants on the road outside the resort. There is also a small supermarket nearby if you want to buy snacks, beer, etc.

The bungalows are close to the airport but I did not hear any disruptive aircraft noise and the resort will arrange a taxi from the airport if needed for 500 baht. (Holiday Inn next door charge 600 baht).

This acccommodation is in a quiet area and is best suited to those looking for a relaxing time, away from the livelier resorts further south of Phuket. The beach is nice and clean and no hassle from beach sellers but the beach does shelve quite sharply into the sea.

The bungalows are situated between 2 hotels, 1 of which is the new Holiday Inn, with a fabulous infinity swimming pool. I used this pool and no-one from the hotel questioned me about it. I also used the pool in the other hotel and was sometimes the only person in it!

Booking the accommodation was easy with quick and efficient email contact, using the email contact on their website.

I would love to stay here again in the future

Mai Khao Beach Bungalows provided me with the perfect place for a much needed rest away from the maddening crowds. I specifically chose Mai Khao Beach Bungalows based on its reviews as being tranquil and some distance from the hustle and bustle of the more developed areas of Phuket. Miss Noi and her staff where the perfect hosts, as it is currently low season I actually had the whole property to myself and was very well accommodated. I chose a fan bungalow for THB900, as it is the cooler season this was perfectly sufficient - the showers in the fan bungalows are cold water only but as the temperature still averages around 29 degrees and it is still a humid I found these to be quite refreshing...the a/c bungalows have hot water if you need it. There is very little to do at Mai Khao although I suspect this will begin to change; a Holiday Inn is due to open in October and the Mai Khao Dream has recently opened - although currently empty. The beach is practically deserted so made for some nice long walks. I believe during the busier months a massage therapist sets up a station right outside of the Bungalows on the beach, they weren't there during my visit but an easy 15 minute walk to Sala Resort easily sorted that out for me. The food at Mai Khao is simple but very, very good and the menu is basic but offers three or four Thai and Western options....the Thai noodles with Chicken were my favourite. As the other reviews state if you are looking for the action and excitement of Patong or need lots of resort style activities this location overall will probably be a bit too quite for you. If you want somewhere to recharge and rejuvenate I would highly recommend this property.

This was the most amazing place we stayed in all of Thailand. We stayed for about 5 nights and by the time we left we felt like the staff was family. If you treat these people and their place with respect they will look out for you while you spend your time here at Mai Khao. The bungalow we stayed in was comfortable. The bed was big enough for me and my two friends. The staff cleaned the bungalow every day. I trusted everyone that worked there felt so safe. I left my laptop and money out in the room when they came in to clean and didn't think twice about it. It was basically a private beach. Longest beach in all of Phuket and we were just about the only people on it. If you are looking for total relaxation, great food and service, and a private beach this is the place to go. I would recommend this place to anyone traveling alone, traveling with a group of friends, or a couple. This is the place to be!

Myself and my husband stayed in an air conditioned bungalow for two nights for 1500 baht a night. There are only six bungalows which are all neatly placed in a gorgeous area just set back from the beach. The bungalow itself was nice – big comfy double bed, table and chairs, lovely new clean bathroom and the AC worked well – no TV but didn’t spoil it for us. Mai khao beach is nice but isnt a still turquoise water and white sand beach, the water is choppy and therefore quite cloudy but the beach is great because its practically deserted so you get complete silence and tranquility the whole time! There is very little, if anything, to do in the area so if youre a busybody this place isnt for you. If however you have come to chillout and appreciate a good beach and a book this place is ideal! There is only the restaurant at the complex with no other bars – the food however is lovely and really cheap, as is the beer that they serve so we just ate all our meals here (however it does close after 8.30pm and theres no fridge in the room to store booze!). There are a few posh comlpex/resorts further along the beach if you fancy a walk, but if you do, bring a torch as it isnt lit up at night. All together a lovely relaxing stay for the end of our holiday.

Cheaper than cheap! Not a sole on the 5km beach! Heaven on earth

We loved this place. After 7 months of travelling around the world, this was our last stop before heading back Australia to work and what an amazing place!

Phuket is meant to be this overdeveloped, disappointing, trashy place of tourists, prostitutes and booze. Not true.

Mai Khao bungalows is run by lovably sisters Anne and Noi. This place was hit by the tsunami and although no one hurt here, it destroyed most of their bungalows. Today, there is 4 original bungalows and 2 new ones. They are stunningly clean, charming and come with mosquito net, free water, towels and attached private bathroom.

The restaurant is pretty good but the greatest charm here is it is deserted. It is only 20 minutes from the airport but you hear no planes. The beach has a few people from the Marriott further north and the other nearby budget Seaside cottages but 20 people on a such a large, beautiful beach in rare and for just 900 baht per night is rediculous!

Things will change here quickly. A large Holiday Inn is due to open next door late this year and it wont be long I am sure to join the rest of the Phuket in being overdeveloped and ugly. But for now, this is the closest thing you will get to a paradisic deserted beach on a thai island for less than 20 euros per night.

Thank you Anne and Noi for giving us something we didnt think still existed in Thailand!

This place is a great find. The owners are very friendly and the beds comfy (a bonus in Thialand). The location is great and they have a lovely new building where the restaurant is. When booking they advised that their is construction work going on next door, but it really is not that noisy at all so definitly dont let that put you off.Come and enjoy the beautiful beach view and relax here with a lemon smoothie and a good book!
