Review of Renaissance Phuket Resort & Spa

The hotel is really stylish and new. Actually, it's almost the same age as Westin Siray Bay on the southeast of Phuket, but the two properties condition are far more different in tastes and conditions. Staffs were always eager to do a little extra effort to please you everywhere in this resort. Breakfast was excellent and they serve breakfast until 11am or even 11.30 if you still haven't finished!

Just a little negative points, the Sandbox menu has little choices and the tastes were not as good as in the main restaurant.

Room tip: All rooms are great, new and stylish, and also in very good conditions.

Stylish modern hotel, close to airport
We used this hotel as an airport hotel prior to an early morning departure from Phuket Airport. It is located in Mai Khao, just to the North of Phuket Island, near to other marriott product hotels. When we arrived we were met at the reception by a comedy act of staff eager to serve. This was a bit bizare, but very friendly. We chose to upgrade from a standard room to a pool villa room. The normal rooms border the perimeter of the property enclosing the gardens and the villas. The complex looks modern, is done in a 'trendy' style and was apparently opened in 2010.

The Pool Villa was a good sized room which opened out onto a small plunge pool. To the side of the main room was a large bathroom.

The hotel has a couple of restaurants. We only tried the sandpit, which was a very good Bistro style affair.

Unfortunately the weather was not so good during our short stay, so we could not try or see all the facilities on offer. As a result of the torrential rain we remained in our villa utilising the private pool.

To be honest, whilst I could not fault the hotel, room, or its location, we would not be likely to spend any time at this hotel in the future, in prefernce we would be more likely to venture further afield. That said, we would definately go back if we had to fly out of Phuket early in the morning as it is only 15 mins away from the airport.

Very pleasant and relaxing stay for the last day of our holiday.

Gem on Mai Khao Beach
Stayed here with some family members for a short beach getaway for a birthday.

The resort is located approx. 2.5 km (1.6 mi) on a private road from the main N-S highway on Phuket island. Once at the highway, it is approx. 5 km north to Sarasin Bridge (to the Thai mainland), 10 km south to the airport, 35 km to Phuket town and 40 km to Patong. A small cluster of restaurants and shops, including one which also offers scooter rental, is located about 500 m from the entrance of the resort. The closest grocery/convenience store is at Turtle Village, a small shopping mall located about 2 km from the resort, near the highway.

Pros:
On a secluded stretch of beach, gorgeous resort, perfect for an intimate getaway.
Well appointed rooms as you would expect from the Renaissance brand, great attention to detail - multi adapter faced power points take different shape international plugs, replenishment of bottled water and toiletries, etc. Great selection at the breakfast buffet. Crepes and fruit smoothies made to order was a pleasant surprise. Marriot Rewards members get free broadband wifi with their reservations.

Cons:
Unless you plan on spending most of your time at the resort, which is not a bad idea in itself... there is not much in the vicinity by way of shops/restaurants/sights.

That being said, those that want to enjoy a more 'exciting nightlife' by heading into Patong or Karon/Kata beaches would have to rely on their own transportation, or deal with the taxi mafia that has a stand conveniently located at Turtle Village. Fare to the airport (10 km away) is set by them at THB 500. No amount of haggling will lower their fare. Compare with approx THB 300-350 by meter and including tolls, from Suvarnabhumi Airport to the Sukhumvit area in BKK, at least 3 times the distance.

The resort offers 3 scheduled trips on a minivan to Patong daily, fare is THB 350 per person. We rented scooters and I made the ride to Patong and back twice, each on 2 consecutive days - I do not recommend this for the novice rider - although road conditions are fine, with a dedicated lane for motorbikes along most of the highway.

New, clean and nice architecture
We have enjoyed the stay so much, all staff are friendly and upfront to serve. Food is good, pool side is spacious and relaxing. Hotel even arrange for birthday cake after we mentioned our intention of stay. Overall we do enjoyed our stay very much.

Perfect place for honeymoon only if you don't plan to get out at all
Its a beautiful hotel, new and well maintained.

Service was great! Loved the spread of breakfast every morning. I ate so much every morning. I was there during the low season hence the staff were very attentive and took time everyday to chit chat with us.

The only complaint i have is the location. We had to pay a fair bit to get to Patong everyday cos hubby and I are not beach bums. Other than that, everything is great!

Great Hotel, Amazing Staff
Hotel is under a year old, is on beautiful grounds. The room (deluxe) with one king bed was a really good size. The bed was amazing and the bathroom huge incl a bath and a huge walk in shower. Very private rooms with balconies that you cannot see your neighbour. The grounds are fairly large so you may need to walk a little distance to the pool or other area which is fine by me. The pool is great, could maybe be a little bigger and kids should be told to stay in kids area a little more.
Staff in the hotel is the highlight, beautiful and friendly and very professional and only willing to help with any need you have.
The spa is great also, very very relaxing and best i have had.
This is a great hotel for couples more so than business or solos as the area is very beautiful and not much else going on within the area.
I would not hesitate coming back here, excellent hotel, one of the best i have stayed at
