Our 4th time here and still great, all the amenities you could ask for, apartment great, pool brilliant staff excellent. Dont believe anyone could find a fault with this place unless you want to be in the middle of all the night life. My only advise would be is to lower food and drink prices and people would use the resort restaurants more. A highlight of this holiday for me was the baby elephant that arrived every morning and gave everyone a kiss and cuddle. As mentioned you can walk over to the JW and use their facilities too! Use the bikes its a great ride around the local area. Use Kin Dee restaurant for in house service, they deliver or go to the restaurant for authentic food and service.I loved the oil burner smell in the pool toilets, that would be nice if one was given for the room as the Anantara do.Coffee Club excellent, Bill Bentlys excellent, beach bar at far end also great for cheap drinks and a nice sunset! massage girls on the beachfront all do a great job and cheap.Hope to be back one day!

I've read some strange reviews here, and it seems most people seem to forget that they are not the only people in the hotel, or that they are in a foreign country. I read somewhere a mistake was made and the front desk made a call when they had been told "DO NOT CALL AFTER 7:30 OTHERWISE MY KIDS MAY WAKE UP" - well so what, there are 100s of other guests so what makes you so special? And other reviews said the English is not so great from the staff - Well hang on a moment, you're on the island of Phuket, in Thailand - Do you speak Thai? No I thought as much, but your education was probably 100x better (and maybe 1000x more expensive) than a local person so why can't you speak Thai? Their English is much, much better than your Thai I imagine.

So here's the real review....

This place is excellent, the price is great and you get a great villa, multiple bedrooms, very well maintained though-out, some have private pools, some have large balconies with views. You'll get filter coffee, working appliances, more pools for all to use, more towels than you would know what to do with, a supermarket on your doorstep, facilities from the neighboring Marriott's (yes, there are 2 next door) that you can use.... You get my point?

If you cannot put up with the odd mistake that can and will happen, or with someone who does not speak so great English (still better than YOURThai I imagine) then please stay somewhere else, as I for one would not want your whinging in this resort.

5 Stars from me.

Room Tip: If you want a plunge pool which is great for kids, go for a ground floor room. If you want a view...

I spent the weeks leading to our trip going through the TripAdvisor reviews for Mai Khao as it had been my Plan B if the Marriott Phuket Club didn't work out. The reviews had me confused as some were for the other J&W Marriott properties and so I would never know for sure whether the positive reviews were for Mai Khao or not. Now that Ive been I can assure other confused TripAdvisor users like me that you really can't go wrong with this property .
The place is lovely and as we were the " Goldilocks" of travellers, it was great to have a vacation where everyone found it just right. Whether it were early morning outdoor yoga classes , water aerobics in the pool while the kids attended their own kid club activities and also sitting out and enjoying the poolside while the enjoyed the complimentary popcorn movie nights. The beach though lovely was a bit rough for the time of the year but the kids were not disappointed ( for other than the baby elephant everyone mentions) they had sand play in the children's playground and also a pretty cool water slide in the children's pool.

It is possible to rent your own car as we did and drive along the coast line and the other beaches. Or the Promthep Cape as we did.

The rooms are clean and spacious, and are given a thorough cleaning every day. The staff is very helpful and suggested a couple of cool itineraries.

We will definitely return.

We were invited by our friends to sit through the 90 min presentation and get 3 nights of free stay - and it was well worth it. The Mai Khao property is smaller compared to JW Marriot but a lot newer and furnishings more modern. We got a 2 bedroom apartment on the ground floor with a pool and it was very spacious and well-equipped with a full kitchen and washer/dryer (detergent provided). It was also great that we were just a few steps away from Turtle Village which has more normal priced food/shopping/convenience store and even a money changer (which offered competitive rates).

It's definitely a family place in providing such facilities - plus a nice welcome beach ball, wristbands and a full day's activities that will keep any child occupied in their kids club.

However, they didn't have the usual 5 star hotel toiletries set you would expect so bring your own toothbrush/shaver/facial cotton.

The main downside of the place is its expensive food which is well-noted by other reviewers and we totally agree it is much better to rent a car, go marketing and cook in-house or eat at other Turtle Village/other restaurants nearby. The spa is also grossly overpriced - about 1500 baht for pedi or mani, and 3700 baht for a massage. The cheaper, but more desperate option is to go to the beach front of JW Marriot where a beach shack will do a Thai massage for you at 400 baht. However, it is a little dirty and not quite the relaxing experience one is looking for.

Thankfully, we moved to a private villa experience at Sava (about 10 mins drive away) where the in villa massage was only 1000 baht - so I had my daily fix there.

But all in all, the kids loved their time (the pool slide was very safe and fun) although it would have been better if the food and spa wasn't so expensive so that the parents could be happier too!

Room Tip: Get the ground floor room with a plunge pool. Easy access for kids to jump into the pool, kids club...

We took 2 bedroom villa on 2nd floor for extended family under 3 night referral offer by a friend. Quality of the property in unquestionable, cleanliness is uncompromising and facilities (in & out room both) excellent. Loved the kids room with caretaker - its a place designed for a family vacation. Wow factor was the baby elephant which visits the common area twice a day. The villas are equipped with all amenities including cooking and washing facilities. Resort Food seemed quite expensive though - there is a small convenience store next door, but prices are 40-50% higher than other stores.

We were aware that the place is far from the city centre and Patong, and we hired a car to drive however it was a real pain to travel that long in reality - waste of 45-60min one-side travel. All activity (phi phi trip) charge 200 baht per person for additional transportation charge (basically a people carrier for 1200-1800 baht reverse trip).

The Mai Khao beach is amazingly quite and serene, but only accessible through their sister concern property - JW Mariott next door for which one can travel thru buggy - but sometimes the walk and wait becomes too long.

The sales presentation (if you are on a referral trip) is mandatory and they do try to hardsell (buy-now or loose offer type). We did not take it up (though its worth the lifestyle - assuming all resorts are not located such far from city) and they did seem a little miffed.

Another downside to their property was the check-in time at 4pm which is unusually late when check-out was 10am. We waited 6 long hours to get a room as flight reaches early, we informed in advance for early arrival but 8 other families were also waiting. But once you enter the room - you forget all misery as it is worth the wait.

Room Tip: Nevertheless, overall the trip to Mai Khao was excellent (try to get a room with the plunge pool - i...

My wife and our 3 young children spent 3d2n here recently. We're members at MVC and was given this place to stay for free. Located in the northern part of Phuket and far from the "happening" places located to the south....yet we loved every moment of it. Marriott Mai Khai Beach vacation club has activities and facitlities to cater to all our needs....from children, teenagers and adults.....they keep us all feeling happy and satisfied.
My kids were happy by themselves playing at the Kid's Club with the staff and other children. Themed kid's activities were going on every 2 hrs and everyone enjoyed themselves. Basically we could leave our kids there for most of the day and they'd forget all about us. In fact....every morning our kids, lead by our 12yr old would simply leave our apt room and go to the kid's clubs themselves where they will join other kids and indulge in the activities. One of the highlights there is the baby elephant that comes twice a day. Kids can take pictures with the baby elephant. Its very friendly and seems to lift its trunk every time you say hello to it. In the afternoons when the temp and weather permits....we would all go for a swim in the pool. There's soo many things to do in the club area that we don't really need to leave it premises....
Upon checking in...we were given a 2 bedroom suite...which truly was absolutely beautiful and marvelous. Big master bedroom with a fluffy soft queensized bed attached to a huge bathroom with couple's bathtub. The other room had very comfy and soft twin beds. A very nice living room and dining table with fully equipped kitchen, Every room has a flat screen TV too with cable as well and free internet wifi. The kitchen, wow.....big fridge with all the kitchen utensils ou would ever need, stove, oven, microwave, blenders, coffeemaker, toaster...you name it...they got it. Oh and theres also an iron with board and washer and dryer as well!!!
There's actually 2 Marriotts there. One is Marriott Mai Khao Vacation Club and the other JW Marriott Phuket Beach Club. To get to the other you could just wait for a buggy that cycles these two places every few minutes and hop on. The staffs are friendly and will go out of their way to help you out. Takes a bit to understand what they're trying to say....but once you get the momentum going.....all is good.
Food and transportation tho...is extremely expensive. To head to town by taxi from lobby would cost you 800baht per trip. Food....for 2 adults and 3 kids....cost us an average of 3000 - 5000baht and doesnt taste as if it should cost that much at all. Basically, your paying for the stars....and not for the taste.
My advice would be...skip the hotel food. Rent a car (contact the bell counter at the lobby). Car rental costs around 1200baht with insurance + 200 for GPS for 24 hrs. I didnt use the GPS since there was only ONE main road/highway (the 402) which leads all the way to every where else. Never got lost and it was my 1st time driving in Phuket. Using a simple map I could get to Phuket Town....even to the famous Weekend Market...where food is a fraction the price of what you paid at the hotel and taste wayyyyyyy better!!!! For example...there's a seafood restaurant just a few (5-7km) km south of the club along the 402 called Taofun Seafood restaurant. Car rental = 1200 (24hrs) eat at local seafood restaurant = 1500baht ---total : 2700baht!!! and you get the car to go anywhere you want to....still paying ,much less than the 1 meal food at the restaurants....and you get authentic Thai food....tastes much better....and more satisfying.
Overall....the stay was memorable...our children loved it sooo much...we had a good time...and thats whats important!

This is a perfect resort for a short break.
We took up a referral offer and were very impressed, the accommodation is extremely well maintained and very spacious.
It's not a large resort, but plenty to do, pools are a good size, tennis courts, 2 restaurants, Kids club, and plenty of activities.
It's a short walk to the beach, although golf buggys are provided if required.

The presentation was also extremely good. Paul explained the proposition really well, answered our questions and without a hard sell. Whilst it wasn't right for us currently, it's a very compelling proposition, under a great brand, and if we ever do take a timeshare it will definitely be with Marriott.
In the meantime Marriott, and in particular the Marriott Vacation club will definitely be the first brand we look for when researching hotels for our next break.

Room Tip: All of the rooms seem great, the ground floor ones have a small personal pool.
