L'Hirondelle du Lac
Reviewed April 28, 2012

This was my second visit to L'Hirondelle du Lac and it was just as amazing as the first. Christopher and Frankie really make this place. You feel so welcome when staying here, Frankie and Christopher are such good hosts. The position of the property offer fabulous view across the lake and wonderful breakfasts on the balcony.
Christopher is an outstanding cook who takes pleasure from delighting his guests with his food, every dish (12 I have eaten so far) have been out of this world and the relaxed setting with lake views is the icing on the cake.
Looking forward to my next visit already!

Christopher and Frankie went the extra 1.6km (mile) to make our stay relaxing and memorable. It is rare to find hosts who are prepared to put themselves out to such an extent in order to make their guests feel welcome and cared for. Food was excellent and very good value. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The village was picturesque and central for the sights of Limousin.

Frankie and Christopher are welcoming and friendly. The food is excellent. The old house in Peyrat-le-Chateau has been redecorated, 2 comfortable bedrooms overlook the lake, and 2 look over the street. A bonus if the weather is good is to eat dinner and breakfast on the terrace looking over the lake.

Room Tip: The 'Red Room' overlooks the lake and has a large bathroom.

I had a wonderful stay at Christopher & Frankie's "boutique" chambres d'hôte. Their website promises relaxation and that's exactly what they delivered.

The property is located next to a beautiful lake, and my room had a view overlooking it.
I had a look at the other bedrooms and they are all individually themed by colour and feature handpicked furniture. I would describe each room as charming.

My room had a large bathroom with a walk in shower, lots of wardrobe space and a very comfortable bed. The view was simply stunning.

Christopher and Frankie made me feel so welcome - and then there's the food!

A continental breakfast was served each morning, and I was lucky with the weather so I dined on the balcony overlooking the lake - the aroma of freshly made coffee floated up to my open window - what a wonderful way to start the day! Pastries, yogurts, breads and fruit were also provided.

The evening meal was restaurant quality and naturally superb. Served with a fantastic wine and followed by a cheeseboard it was very special.

When I returned to the UK after my four days away, I realised that it felt like I had been away far longer. That's some achievement! It's testament to two things: the amazing part of France called Limousin with it's myriad of picture postcard villages and scenery, and more importantly the efforts of Christopher and Frankie to make their chambres d'hôte the best.

You can read about how good it is here, visit their website: but the best way is really to try it for yourself!

Room Tip: I loved the Red Room, but all are charming.

Having recently come back from staying at Chrisopher and Frankie's lovely hotel, I was lucky enough to enjoy the beautiful views overlooking the lake from my room as I woke each morning. The beds (and pillows especially!) are very comfortable indeed.

Breakfast is best enjoyed from the balcony, overlooking the same view of the lake and Christopher's meals are absolutely gorgeous!!

With lots of recommendations of some of the relaxing walks around the area, both on-the-door-step and a little further afield, both Christopher and Frankie's hospitality make for great company and a welcoming atmosphere.

A wonderful time with fantastic hosts, I already look forward to my next stay - thanks guys!

Room Tip: The lake view is definitely worth the extra £5

This was my second stay at Christopher and Frankie's beautiful boutique hotel, set in sleepy Peyrat Le Chateau. I returned with a group of friends because of the amazing hospitality, tastefully decorated rooms and Christopher's WONDERFUL cuisine! Delicious homemade food made with the finest selected local ingredients is order of the day, served with superb wines.
The location is stunning and romantic; the hotel nestles by a lake, and you can take breakfast in the sun on the terrace that overlooks it.
Rooms are characterfully furnished with antique and 'statement' pieces picked out by Christopher and Frankie for each colour-themed room and all have en-suite. (Oh btw - for a real treat, book a room that overlooks the lake; wake up on a sunny day and throw back the shutters for an inspiring view of tranquility!)
Nothing is too much trouble for the hosts; they are welcoming and kind, and can give you plenty of local information to make your stay in picturesque Limousin that much more enjoyable.
Also - staying at L'Hirondelle du Lac is incredibly well-priced!
My friends and I really had to tear ourselves away; if you're planning a trip to this area, I really couldn't recommend this GORGEOUS little gem of a hotel and its lovely hosts more! :)
