The one thing that topped the beautiful monsoon, the unusual but nice hotel property, excellent dining, rejuvenating spa was the service with a smile! If you are flying in, be prepared for a bumpy 2 hour drive from airport to hotel. While the rooms are unusual with an outdoor shower and cozy outdoor day bed, the guest experience can be further enhanced with a little bit more attention to detail in the housekeeping - cleaning the grit off the floor for instance, providing bath robes instead of having to ask for it. Replacing the bulky key with an electronic card or the new biometric readers would be nice. I would rate the service at the spa for ayurveda therapuetic treatments, buggy ride, dining as excellent.

unusual location is what struck me as i turned right from the kasargod-kannur highway, through a residential area.you can also see the Lalit sign board on the way but it goes in another direction as you move closer to Vivanta gate.Location is extremely quite as the road ends at the hotel.A short walk from the reception leads you to the beach which is not safe for swimming.the place has a feel of kumarakom, its a true Kerala experience with all the water and greenery around.Rooms stand out the way it has been built, very different lots of space and a river view at the rear from the balcony.I think some rooms have a garden view as well. The spa is really big and definitely worth the visit.many cycles available if you want to ride around.bar and restaurants is worth a visit as well

Room Tip: room with a river view was good

Although I am a regular at the Leela Goa and Kovalam but they don't have one in Bekal. That was both bad and good as it helped us in exploring Vivanta by Taj Bekal. We stayed at the Vivanta by Taj Bekal from the 19th to the 21st of July.We had booked the premium indulgence room and it was just terrific. The visit was planned for my wife's birthday and the Vivanta Staff made every possible option to make our visit a memorable one. The flowers design on the bed for the birthday was a creative one which surprised us pleasantly.Special thanks to Sunil from the Latitude restaurant,Diljith and Varun from the Team Taj for our pleasant stay at the Taj Bekal.

Positives-Lovely monsoon weather beautified by the Taj's premium villa with Plunge pool,Coordial and wonderful staff who took care of all our needs during the stay,Fabulous Jiva Spa,Lot of options within the resort to spend your time.

Negatives- Beach during the monsoon doesn't have a great view,Unfortunately it was raining on all three days,In Room dining was not that great,Breakfast spread was limited compared with the other hotels in the same range.

Room Tip: Try the rooms with the plunge pools with a view of the river..

If you want to just relax and just be surrounded by natural beauty, this is the place.

Bekal is about two hours drive from Mangalore. We had asked hotel to arrange for a cab which is at an extra cost. The drive is a bit rough though. But the car and driver were excellent. Bekal is not a touristy place and currently has very few hotels/resorts. We went just four of us (me, my husband and two kids, age 4.5 and 1.5) for a relaxing vacation and just to spend time with each other after a hectic half year of work and stress. This was a perfect place for us. We stayed at Taj vivanta for 5 nights and then at The Lalit for 3 nights (coz Taj was sold out) and we booked last minute, that too for last week of december.

Property:
The property is spread around with mostly cottages. The reception lobby is beautiful. The beach is untouched and clean. There is a small play area for kids as well as an indoor area with a few toys. They arrange to babysit on request and prior notice. There is a backwater canal where you can do kayaking. There are hammocks and loungers at various spots. The Spa is so good that I cant even compare it. It is well located and the treatment are surely worth trying.

Rooms:
When we went they had three kinds of rooms. The first two were situated one on top of the other, where the one on the ground floor got a pool and the one on the uppler level has a big terrace. The third kind was a cottage with a plunge pool, which we took. We stayed in cottage number 473. It was fantastic. You enter in a courtyard with the plunge pool, there was an outdoor tub and a shower, a daybed in the courtyard and the room was also very big.

Make sure that you know what you are booking. We asked for the room with the plunge pool but the booking desk at pune booked the wrong room which gave us a bad check-in experience.

Service:
People were fantastic. All the staff would know our names, even at the restaurant. Just while checking-in, we had a rough experience, but apart from that all was good.

Food:

The regular breakfast and meals are normal. Nothing outstanding.

But at lunch, they do serve the 'Sapad', south indian lunch on banana leaf which is fantastic. We had it twice. But the problem is that you have to inform a day in advance if you want to have it which is not a nice experience. We got to know about this when we saw someone eating it. Since we were there for many days we could do it the next day. But we saw other guests get upset as they did not know about it.

We had two great dining experiences. For one evening on request, they arranged dinner at the gazebo. We met the chef and decided what select dishes we wanted to have and spent the 2-3 hours by the water. There were some small insects around and just candle light but they had said about it. But we insisted as we wanted to do it . We went very simple on food like a started and pasta for us and khichadi for kids. But we totally loved the experience.

The only thing we were extremely disappointed with was the terrible New Years dinner. It was conventional buffet on the lawns with loud bad music, killing the ambiance of the place. Instead of aping what most places did out of bad taste, they should have created an authentic experience.

We will surely go again and have recommended to lot of people.

Room Tip: Take the ones with the plunge pool.

This is an excellent property, around 2 hours from Mangalore airport, in Kerala. The staff were very pleasant and the rooms are fantastic - especially the garden courtyard room and the room with the private swimming pool. Mr. Unnikrishnan and his team did a great job to ensure all our requirements were met. I had gone there with my colleague for a Board meeting of one of my clients, but we had some time to let our hair down. The pool is good, the beach is fantastic and the backwaters are soothing. The nearby Bekal fort is good for a short visit. Overall, a great property and highly recommended!!

Room Tip: One should opt for the Garden Courtyard rooms which have lounge chairs, huge swing, fountain and out...

We went on a family holiday, with parents to Taj Vivanta Bekal really expecting nothing. It was a short drive from my hometown, and a long weekend. Just to laze around, we thought, to do nothing at all. We were pleasantly surprised at the magnificence of the resort. It was just like being in a secluded township. The large rooms, the private pool, the beautifully designed gardens were just right for that soothing weekend holiday.

We have no words to express the friendliness and the courtesy of the staff and bespoke of the immaculate service culture of the Vivanta brand. We felt that we were looked after personally, and we do have to compliment Aneesh, Sunil and Saneesh at the Latitude restaurant for their cheerful demeanour and eagerness to please. Oh, yes the spa was divine and the location almost mystical.

We did more than we intended to- cycling in tandem, workout at the spanking new gym, kayaking in the backwaters, a jaunt at the beach and swim at our own private pool. Everything was so clean and well maintained, we could not complain at all.

To top a great vacation, I even got the phone I'd forgotten in the room with the help of our gracious hostess- thank you Taj, we will be back for more!

Vivanta by Taj at Bekal is a great retreat, spread in a huge space it gives the site of both the beach and the backwaters of kerala.

The property is superb, lot of activities to do on the river side under expert guidance, the staff is really very courteous and of the standard as it should be at a Taj property.

The food is also good.

We had been there for a short trip to just chill and relax and kids & wify were thrilled to be at the property.

The only thing we chose the wrong weather, it was quite hot, But dont worry this is a property to chill within and relax.
