We visited Taj Bekal to spend some relaxing time after our wedding, hence we choose the Deluxe Delight room with the private pool. Which was the best decision we took, we had chosen the premium indulgence room with the perception of luxury and privacy but in this hotel the deluxe delight is more private than the premium indulgence. One of the hotel managers suggested us this and we went by his words and booked the room. The property is located in a very beautiful spot where back waters touch the sea bed, its gorgeous to watch the sun set and the silent breeze by the back waters during early mornings. The receptionists are very understanding and gave us the option of early check in and late check out. On arrival they gave us a refreshing drink and made us feel comfortable till we get our room keys. The private villa is beautiful and made our stay very memorable. We thoroughly enjoyed the facilities and amenities in the room. Biggest disappointment was the dining experience, they have this restaurant called Latitude inside the resort which serves buffet spread and ala carte. Both are equally horrible and not worth at all for the money they charge. We would suggest you to take a stroll outside the resort and find some local hotels to dine rather than dining in Latitude that will work out much cheaper and gives you more options and variety.
Over all the place is amazing, the decors are beautiful and a must visit place for people who want to spend some lovely time in a private luxury villa with a Pool :)

Room Tip: Deluxe delight room with a private plunge pool

the property is amazing especially the villas with the private pool and the boat ride in the backwater with the paddle boat as well as kayaking is a lot of fun, as also the archery and feeding the fishes. the beach is full of shells and if you have kids it makes your time diappear. the food is plain average and there is not much for the vegeterians

Room Tip: take the room with the private pool, it is a different experience altogether

I stayed here in November 2012 for vacation with the family.

The location is absolutely brilliant, with a lovely clean empty beach and access to the "backwaters". The water did look a bit rough at the beach but not dangerous. The property itself is also very well designed with a nice pool area and architecture that blends into the surroundings.

We stayed in a Pool Villa, and its definitely worth the splurge to have the extra space - a lot of which is an outside private courtyard - and the plunge pool. The outdoor space also has a shower and bathtub area, which I loved (there is also an indoor shower). In addition, there is a swing with a large daybed, which was also great. The room itself is also very spacious and has a large bathroom. The only complaint would be the somewhat low lighting in the room...but it's not a big issue.

The Activity Center was also well equipped and our 3 yr old had a good time there. The property also has bikes available if you would like ride around the property or get out to the beach, which is a short walk thru the property...probably 300m from the sea due to coastal zone construction regulations and issues.

We didn't get out to the Jiva Spa but I have experienced them at other properties and this one is much larger and newer so I am sure it's solid.

The food was mediocre at best...but the stand outs we definitely the basic Indian dishes on the menu, both North Indian and local specialties. The buffet was almost inedible on the 2 occasions we got suckered into opting for that. Once we figured out that a la carte Indian was the way to go, everything was ok...and it was working out cheaper than the buffet, if one ordered without being gluttonous.

The service was decent but not absolutely top notch Taj service that one is used to. It seems that the training is somewhat lacking, as the servers in the Latitude restaurant and the In Room Dining staff had very little idea of how to deal with any special request or just plain forgot to do things (we ordered mustard with our breakfast but they kept forgetting to get it on a few separate occasions, one time our in-room dining tray was not cleared for 5-6 hours despite calling the kitchen 3 times). However other times the staff was right on point like at the Pool or with Housekeeping (somewhat early to call on cleaning the room for a resort...~930am!!!, so have your DND sign on).

The one different experience was at the By The Bay restaurant, where we had a fabulous, albeit must costlier, meal...much recommended.

The car pick up/drop off from the airport was good, but again much more expensive than a regular cab...which is ok since the vehicle was very new and nice, and the driver was driving in a sane manner (1.5+ hour dive from Mangalore airport, don't let anyone tell you otherwise). They did provide snacks and drinks for the trip on both legs. Also the Travel Desk set up our Bekal Fort + Backwater trip in a satisfactory manner as well...about an hour drive from the hotel.

Overall, it was a pleasant enough experience but the few service issues and the few poor meals really left a bad taste, especially given the price point. We would like to visit again for the beach and the room, but not sure we will. I think right now the hotel ranks somewhere between a 3.5-4 stars in my book.

Room Tip: Choose the Pool Villas...they are worth the extra money...

on arrival at vivanta by taj bekal, we were greeted by a beautiful lounge that led to the rooms. the rooms were spacious and excellent as well as very flash. the food was very good, but not worth the expenses in my opinion. a perfect location as well. in my opinion the best beach resort i have ever been to, and i have been to many beach resorts before.

Room Tip: rooms near the sea are much more scenic

It is a nice property with access to the beach (no swimming allowed) and the back waters (you can kayak in some seasons).

The rooms are spacious and have been done up well. For us the highlights were - the team and the service at the restaurant, the spread and quality of food served for all the meals, the treatment at the spa was just super. After a long time it was nice to meet with a very well training therapist and undergo treatment in a super environment.
