“Excellent hotel facilities, beautiful beach..but small rooms!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 10, 2013

We have just returned from a one week all inclusive break at the Alcudia Pins. I travelled with my husband and son who has just turned 2.
We found the hotel to be clean, staff friendly, and the pool facilities were brilliant. Plenty of sunbeds (mainly because there is a strict no-reserve policy, and towels are taken away if no-one is sitting on them!) the food was lovely, and the beach is just simply beautiful.
Downsides for us: were that we found the entertainment a little dull...we have a caravan on a Hoburne site in Torbay, and the effort made with the children, in my opinion is much better, more games, disco every night, that sort of thing. At the Alcudia pins, there didnt really appear to be much of that, no dis-respect to the thomson team, it was just...dull!
The entertainment is based outside, and therfore very noisy at night. We were in C block, nearer to the beach than the stage, but the noise echos around the complex, and goes on until around 11pm. Fine for people with older children who can stay up, but for us with a young toddler, it was just too noisy for him to go to bed before at least 9pm once the childrens entertainment had stopped, and the running along the corridors and door slamming had quietened down!
We had a "1 bed appartment". In reality, this is just an area of the room sectioned off with a sliding door. we chose to all sleep in the bedroom, as the sofa bed was pretty grim, and VERY noisy to get out and put away again. We requested a cot for my son before we arrived, and it was waiting for us in the room. A travel cot WILL NOT fit in the bedroom, so bear that in mind!
We chose to eat at the al fresco restaurant Es Moll most of the time, it was much quiter, and still plenty of choice. Also, its was lovely to sit with a sea view, and there was often a bouncy castle in the evenings set up for the children to play on while you ate...genius!
So overall, we found the hotel to be fantastic for children, especially for slightly older children who dont rely on there sleep so much! We would reccommend it, however, I think, with a few tweaks it could be fantastic...really the room sizes and entertainment let it down.

Room Tip: The hotel is made up of 8 blocks A-H. Go for a room in blocks A,C or E ideally with a sea view, as t...

I have just returned from 10 nights at Alcudia Pins, travelling with my husband and two children (3yr old son and 6 month old daughter). We had a fantastic time, if you are a family you will love this hotel and location. Do not go for a romantic couples break or singles holiday.

Rooms - We stayed in a one bedroom apt. The bedroom is too small to accommodate a cot, so baby was in the lounge area, but after moving the dining chairs onto the balcony this was perfectly manageable. A point to note is that there is no safety chain on the apartment door, you are able to lock it from the inside, but the lock is at handle height, therefore 3 year old height. As we didn't was our 3 year old waking in the night and going for a wander up the corridor, I slept on the sofa bed in the lounge and my son and husband slept on the twin beds in the bedroom. The room was cleaned 5 times a week.

Food - We really enjoyed the food in the buffet restaurants and also in the Tapas restaurant. There is loads of variety, usually a different theme each night with lots of different foods to try, but if you want to stick to what you know there are the usual chips/pizza/burger options available too. The staff in the restaurants do a fantastic job, at peak times the buffet restaurants are absolute chaos, but they were constantly refreshing the food, keeping the serving areas clean, clearing the tables, all the time smiling and being friendly towards us and the kids.

Pools - The water is a bit cold (first week in June), but once you've been in a while it's fine. There was always a lifeguard on duty. We had a pool view room and there were no early morning towels reserving the sunbeds, later in the day it is a struggle to find a bed, but there are chairs up by the coffee bar where you can sit, and it is a good place to sit for one of the toddler pools. You aren't allowed to take food out of the restaurant to the pool area but lots of people did, we also saw loads of used swim nappies under the beds that dirty people left behind, again the staff do a great job of keeping the pool areas clean so it is all fine again by morning.

Entertainment - I cannot comment much on this as my baby isn't great at sleeping in her pushchair so we had to head back to the apartment fairly early. We did stay out a couple of nights and my son loved it. It's a bit like the Eurovision song contest at times with all the languages going on, but it is what it is - holiday entertainment. The stage is situated next to some football courts and a small children's play area which is good if you're there for a quick drink before the entertainment even started, as we often were!

Beach - Beautiful beach, clear blue sea. We brought our pop up tent from home along with a picnic blanket so there was no need for us to fork out for a sunbed and parasol. There are the usual sellers of fake watches, sunglasses and hairbraders on the beach, they don't hassle you if you say no, but the number of times you get asked in a day to look at 'half price' watches can get a bit annoying! Walk up the jetty and take some bread with you to feed the fish. We got a pedalo out a couple of times €13 for an hour, there are loads of jellyfish out where it's deeper, so not sure about hiring one with a slide on the back!

Other stuff - We walked to Can Picafort, took about 45 mins, don't go through the woodland if you have a pushchair as there is a lot of sand and we had to drag them backwards to get through. The other route is walking along the side of the road which probably isn't any better. We got the bus back which was cheap and easy and stops directly outside the hotel. We also walked 1.5 hrs to Alcudia, this is along a road parallel to the main road, not exactly picturesque and there are hardly any dropped curbs, so again pushchair hassle! Once you get nearer to Alcudia you can walk along a path next to the beach.

We have just returned from a week at Alcudia Pins and after being apprehensive wanted to reassure people that it really is a great hotel. After many years traveling as a couple this was our first holiday abroad with our young son.

The only negative was on arrival we were slightly disappointed with our apartment, we had been allocated one over looking the hotel entrance and drop of point, the following morning we tried to upgrade (£100) to a sea view however the hotel was full. Initially we felt that this might impact on our enjoyment of the holiday as with a toddler i had imagined sitting on the balcony in the evenings once he had gone to bed, with no view other than the coach pick up this was not going to happen. Over the course of the week we realised our apartment was preferable to the block overlooking either the road alongside and also the block immediately next to the entertainment area, so overall not so bad.

The Apartments were very clean, and well enough equipped, however we were only 2 adults and 1 toddler, a family of 4 may find them on the small side. Also the bed set up may not be ideal, the pull out 'sofa' bed is in fact 2 singles so you have the choice of putting the children to bed in the double and taking the singles yourself or all going to bed at the same time.. which may not be a problem for older children. The beds were very clean and comfortable, all new mattresses and mattress toppers, the linen was spotless and soft and the bins changed daily with linen/ towels being changed several times over the week.

The Hotel was much larger than we had anticipated, but the food really was excellent, very good quality, so much choice and replenished quickly. One of the best all inclusive set ups we have experienced. There were theme nights, the choice of eating in the various locations, the buffet offered several meat and fresh fish options, salads, veg, pizza and pasta bar and wonderful puddings, plus the usual nuggets, chips, etc for those who prefer it. If anybody is unhappy with the food here, the problem lies with them and not the hotel. We always got a table quickly and their were rarely queues. There is not the sense of a 'free for all' that we have experienced in some other hotels. It was nice.

The pool is lovely, however the first week in june it was still just a tad too chilly for me, but not for my son or the other children who all played happily in the water. I imagine it just gets busier as the season continues. We always got sun loungers although most were gone past 9.30am. The various kids slides and pools were really nice and I especially liked the fact their is a dedicated baby pool. We didn't use it, but i would have liked to if my son was younger.

The evening entertainment was better then expected for this type of resort holiday. The evening 'tea time show' for the kids was always a big hit with the children, and then the swedish entertainment team take over with a different variety act every night, Pirates of the Med, Eurovision, Electric Dreams (80 tribute.. very funny if your a certain age) In contrast to other hotels we have stayed at we found ourselves singing and laughing along. They were talented and worked hard and everything was delivered with a sense of fun. It was cheesy in a good way. You get what you pay for, do not going expecting broadway!

The hotel staff were efficient, friendly and polite. There were always plenty of waiting staff/ cleaners (the hotel is immaculate) and every person we met greeted us with a smile.

The hotels location was fine for us, (with a toddler in tow, we weren't there to explore the island) we took a bus ride in to town for the markets, and this was quick and easy. The location on the beach is amazing.. a few foot from pool to soft white sand!

We have never returned to the same resort twice but I would make an exception for this hotel. I think my son would thoroughly enjoy all the kids club activities on offer if he were that bit older. The creche and kids club areas were well equipped and all the children and their parents seemed very happy with the service.

Overall very happy with our choice.

Just returned from a week at Alcudia Pins with my husband and two kids (6yrs & 8yrs). Hotel was spotlessly clean, all staff very friendly and helpful. Plenty of sunbeds for everyone. Beautiful view over the lovely beach and bus stop right outside to get to Alcudia or C'an Picafort. the rooms were very clean and you could see the balcony furniture was new for 2013 as were the blue sunbeds around the toddler and deep pools.

Not mentioned in our brochure but good for you to know is they have a brand new gym which opened 2 days before we arrived. They give free sunbed towels so no need to pack your own.

The evening entertainment is pretty shocking to be fair, we couldn't face it in the end so played on the beach, walked around the shops or got the but to Alcudia Port. Dawn is lovely but Bonkers Becky just wasn't very bonkers! The whole thing was pretty unorganised and our kids didn't enjoy it. It doesn't really take the usual route of same songs with actions each night for the kids to learn, it's just a random mixture of hopping about the stage being 'bonkers!'

We found the main restaurant a bit manic and lacking in atmosphere so ate at Es Moll restaurant by the beach every day (you can go twice during your stay but they don't check your room number so we went every day more or less). There is less variety at Es Moll than the main one but it's such a beautiful location we didn't want to be sat in air con behind net curtains. 1 concern with both restaurants was the temperature of food, often ranging from luke warm to stone cold. I was surprised not to hear of sickness bugs but my daughter did have diarrhoea on our last day so couldn't go in the pool then threw up all over herself and the plane on the way home!! Previous hotels have had hand gels at restaurants and hot food, this one doesn't so is a sick bug waiting to break out.

Cutlery and crockery often ran out with no replacements available during your meal time so cereals can be off your menu at breakfast or your orange juice in a tea cup etc - this means everyone eats plated meals so when the bowls finally turn up the plates are all gone, and so the cycle continues. We did make an official complaint about this as did others on one particular day and the next day there must have been 600 bowls there - so I think the hotel do listen and act on complaints. Another holiday maker had been 2 years ago and said things people complained about then had been changed and that included moving the kids splash pool from where the entertainment now is to the main pool and the entertainment from the beachside and replacing it with sunbeds. All pretty good stuff! Staff in the restaurants don't run things as well as they could, always reacting not being proactive - when the chips are all gone then they will put some more in the fryer - so theres often empty dishes where food should be.

Once a week you can eat at the Tavern which we did, but like others found the food pretty awful and would not recommend it. The food in general is poor in quality in all restaurants, the worst we have had in 7 years of 4* all inc hotels in Majorca and for that reason we would not return to this hotel which is a shame as everything else was great. Maybe they need to recoup the cost of the improvements to the hotel by giving very poor quality food. Other people we met were not impressed by it either.

The supermarket onsite is very expensive. EUR2.90 for a bottle of skimmed milk - it's EUR2.10 in the supermarket at the end of the driveway on the left. All items are around EUR1 more than the other supermarket not linked to the hotel.

We did have a lovely holiday, great location, rooms, pools, beach, staff but as the food quality and storage standards of it were so low we will not be returning to the Alcudia Pins

We chose to stay at the Alcudia Pins all inclusive for a week in May 2013. If i had to chose one word with which to describe the hotel i would choose "adequate". The hotel itself is in good condition and the majority of the staff are exceptional but there are a few areas that are lacking in their practicality when taking a young family there.
Our children were 3 1/2 and 1 at the time of our holiday and the room that we had was less than ideal; two single beds and one pull out bed in the lounge area plus a cot! It was impractical for the kids to sleep together so i took one single bed with our eldest in the other and my wife had the sofa bed whilst our youngest slept in the cot beside her. Plenty of early mornings and the kids waking each other up but at least it meant that we got full days together!
Going all inclusive is definitely the way forward as it meant that we could try the boys with a variety of food and anything that they did not like did not matter. It was also invaluable having access to unlimited soft drinks, ice creams and snacks throughout the days.
The pools were vast with plenty of room, but they were unfortunately not heated so only the brave dads (yes yours truly) went in and endured the cold and their offspring clinging onto them!
The beach was 50m away and was a blessing - we actually had our best day there on the beach, throwing sand into the sea and digging holes that the water could flow up and flood our newly dug hole!
The evening entertainment was great, as were the interactions of several of the themed characters like Charlie and Coco the clowns who regularly raided the evening buffet to play with all of the kids. Thomson the dog was a huge hit with our eldest and we will endeavour to return to a Thomson resort next year so that they can continue to enjoy the shows.
One of the features of staying as an all inclusive guest was a visit to the Tapas restaurant on-site. Be aware that you have to book this at least 24 hours in advance but it is very worthwhile; the food is fantastic and varied and the kids loved it too.
All in all it was a good experience and we had a lot of fun together. If the pools had been heated and the room more accomodation to our situation then i would happily raise my review to four stars!

Room Tip: If you have young children, get a room that is "pool-side" so that you can have quieter ev...

Our holiday got off to a poor start when we arrived at midnight and found the apartment small, basic and drab. After a struggle we got the sofa beds up but there was no bedding. Two trips back to reception produced two pillows and one blanket but no duvets. We had to ask twice more the next day before the duvets arrived. Our first breakfast was like a bun-fight in a school canteen! In the main restaurant the tables are packed together to accommodate the vast numbers of families staying on the complex. Because there were so many children under 5 there was plenty of food dropped on the floor. However, things got better after this.
The quality and variety of food is exceptional, and staff ensure everything is topped up. Food was being freshly cooked in the centre of the restaurant. Staff relaid tables with fresh cloths as soon as they were vacated and we did not have to wait for a table. We enjoyed eating in the beach-side cafe and had a lovely evening in the Tapas Restaurant , again by the beach.
Staff worked tirelessly to keep the hotel clean, and were always friendly. The entertainment seemed more appropriate for younger children than ours, who were 8 and 10. At night pop music was played on the open air stage, and we were woken in the mornings by delivery lorries and recycling carts servicing the next door hotel. There were lots of sun loungers around the pools and sliders etc. to keep children happy. The water was cold.
The real star was the beach and sea. The beach was beautiful with pale ,fine sand and the sea crystal clear and shallow. We had great fun on a pedalo, and we took beach games with us.
This hotel is in a wonderful location right on the beach, and the children could have some independence and visit the beach-side cafe on their own.
Whilst we were there we also enjoyed a visit to the nearby water park, and the Thomson trip to the Pirates Adventures.
All in all it was a good holiday.

We have just returned from Alcudia Pins on 31st May 2013, myself and husband travelled with our 6 year old daughter. We had a good holiday overall but there are some issues I will share with you. Firstly let me say the location is fantastic as the hotel is right on the beach and the beach is lovely white sand and safe for children, it is about 5km long. Sun beds on the beach are not included and cost 10.65 Euros for 2. There are life guards on the beach which is reassuring. Beware of the people selling stuff on the beach and doing hair braids as they are annoying and illegal, we saw the police moving them on a few times.
There is also always a life guard at the pools which is great reassurance with children everywhere. The pools are great fun but the water is very cold, this probably won't be a problem in high summer though when the weather is warmer, the air temp was around 20-24 degrees whilst we were there.
We did not opt for a pool view or sea view room and we were lucky with our room as it was on the 3rd floor of block 'I' and we had a view of the mountains which was lovely. However, we noticed some of the rooms were overlooking the main entrance to the hotel where the coaches pick up and drop off, so if this would be an issue for you then I would pay extra for the sea view or pool view, although you may end up with a room near the main stage if you opt for a pool view and the entertainment goes on until midnight. Our apartment was OK but the sofa bed was very uncomfortable so if I went again I would get a 2 bedroom apartment as the beds in the bedroom were comfortable. The cooking facilities are limited if you went self catering, there is a microwave and hob with one saucepan.
With regard to the Thomson entertainment we were not impressed, the children's entertainment with Thomson the Dog is OK for the kids but did go on a bit late we thought (9pm) and the rest of the entertainment is bad, shows like Rod Stewart tribute bands and bad 80's medley singers etc. You may like this kind of thing but it wasn't for us. Also the main bar is right by the stage and there is often a long queue for drinks. There is another quiet bar inside but there is no music or atmosphere in there but less queue time for drinks. The drinks selection is good and cocktails are included if you are all inclusive. The wine is good but they won't give you a whole bottle, but will give you 6 glasses which we found a bit annoying but I guess they don't want people taking them to their rooms.
Finally the food is very good and we really enjoyed the Tapas in the 'A La Carte - 'Tavern by the Sea'. Breakfast is excellent and our daughter loved the doughnuts. During the day you can get snacks from 'Es Moll' near the pool, like pizza, chips, hot dogs and burgers and salad. You can also help yourself to Ice cream from 10am to 6pm which our daughter loved! Lunch is also served in the main buffet restaurant and has a better choice. Dinner is excellent and I had a different meal every night for the 7 we were there and the deserts are good with ice cream available again.
One thing we did find annoying with the drinks is the coffee as it is not great from the machines and there is a coffee shop by the pool but it is not included in 'All Inclusive' and a coffee is 3.50 Euros! We got desperate for a good cup a couple of times and paid for a decent latte and cappuccino.
Overall we really enjoyed Alcudia Pins and would go back but with a sea view and 2 bedroom apartment in July or August. The hotel and grounds are very clean and the staff work very hard, especially in the restaurants. Hope this helps you decide.

Room Tip: Sea view room would be excellent!
