Ranked #16 of 30 Hotels in Playa de Muro
Reviewed August 29, 2013

Hi, we've been to this hotel 5 years on the trot now, starting off as 10 days, then 11 and this year a 12 day stay (4th-16th aug) - 30-35 degrees and just 20 mins of rain.
I've been reading the reviews below and the positive ones are all quite realistic. Simon_FMadrid review is thorough and true, in fact i can picture him and his family in the hotel restaurant. BillyBrush also is true, i can picture Billy and have bumped into him in the past but our paths didn't cross this year - Hello Billy !!
Anyway, there is a great friendly atmosphere at this hotel, it ticks the boxes for my family which includes the location and the fantastic beach nearby.
The rooms are basic and could do with some tarting up, they haven't changed in the 5 years we've been there but they are fine in all honesty, you spend a minimum of time in the room really. My only comment on the hotel feedback this year was that one of our plugs was a little loose, which isn't that safe, so i'd wish they'd keep on top of that. But if you do have any issues they sort them out straight-away, from changing rooms (which we did one year), to this year's broken shower head (which was replaced within a couple of hours).
I agree with the comments about the kids club, it's no way anything like a proper kids club at a bigger hotel, just a few activities dotted throughout the day (Friday's is their normal day off i think). My 7 year old wasn't interested in any of the art/craft activities - he just wanted to swim all day - but he did join in the water balloon games. I think the adult activities are more enticing, ping pong compy, rifle shooting, darts, water-polo and Sjorbeck (sorry wrong spelling). The kids have a mini-disco each night at 9pm for 30mins or so, and there's normally some entertainment at 10pm for an hour or so. The entertainment ranges from a magic show, animal/reptile show, singers, dancers, karaoke. Good enough to watch if you're staying at the hotel for the whole evening, which we do some nights but we also get out to some of the other bars. One i'd recommend for those with younger children is the Oasis bar/restaurant (out hotel turn right and walk along the strip for 10 mins), this place has a huge bouncy castle whale €3.50 per child for whole evening / bungee jump €5 10mins or so but longer if no queue).
Breakfast is great, you must at least book B&B and you'll get your day of to a fulfilling start. Toast, hams, tomatoes, cheeses, jams/choc spread, croissants, choc pastry, Spanish cakes, rolls, eggs (scrambled, boiled, fried), bacon, beans (not heinz but they're OK!!), spicy sausage/frankfurter, cereals (only sugar puffs ok, cornflakes/coco pops are poor - my 7 yr old takes a set of the breakfast cereals from home), milk is fine, prunes/dates, nuts, yoghurt, fruit, tea, coffee, hot chocolate, choc nesquick, water, fruit juice... phew - you can see why adults don't need lunch!!
Talking of which, rooms have a kitchenette with toaster, so lunch means come back to the room and feeds the kids toast and jam (bread, butter, jam from Spar is reasonable and lasts in the fridge). This keeps them ticking over until the evening meal. Take your coffee from home, bit expensive to buy there.
Evening meal is good, a little functional, and not as exciting as breakfast for me. There's soup (pea, asparagus, tomato to name a few, some better than others), salad bar (toms, lettuce, onion, beetroot, peppers, carrot and more), dips/sauces, pickles, olives, savoury pies, pizza (normally cheese/tom), chips / other potato, 1 meat dish / 1 fish dish, 3 veg (from frozen i think), from brussels, carrots, green beans, peas, sweetcorn. spaghetti, meat sauce or tomato sauce, grated cheese, melon / fruit, tubs of ice-cream (supplier changed this year, less choice and not as nice as previous), sauces (choc/ strawberry, caramel), toppings, profiteroles, jelly (i had loads in the 12 days!!), pastry and other cake type desserts. Meat dish can be a little hit or miss. Hits are the garlic chicken drumsticks, chicken breast, pork ribs, misses are the stews / veal). Fish is great BUT it's not fillet - you have to earn it by ensuring you avoid the bones but the rewards are always tasty.
Both breakfast and evening meals have the food topped up throughout services, so there's always food available. Only criticism of the restaurant is they are a little over zealous with the air-con - had to ask for it to be turned down once and i like a cool room!!
All staff are helpful and pleasant and will stop to chat with you. I can't remember all their names but Mari on reception and Roli runs the bar, they been there each year i have and the hotel manager Maria.
I think the first couple of years we went we were B&B because we liked eating out in the local restaurants, but prices have risen and half board is a good way of keeping a check on your costs. We thought we might skip a restaurant meal and eat out one night (i do like a t-bone steak which you certainly don't get at the hotel) but we never got round to it...
The swimming pool is a nice size, there are normally beds available at any point of the day. I did notice this year that there was a lot of reserving going on and all nationalities doing it (british/irish, german, russian, swedish). A good mix of people normally and [mostly] the men all come together at the ping pong / rifle shooting competitions to get the nod over each other...
This area is more family orientated, you don't see many lads or lasses on their hols, there's no night clubs, just bars and restaurants, many supermarkets and nik-nak shops. (sun cream expensive €20 for a brand, €10 for non-brand).
The beach is 5mins over the road - it's fantastic. the beach is deep but does get busy but just go to the left or right and you'll soon find a free spot. Now my youngest is old enough we did two great beach walks (ambles). to the left is Alcudia port, a 45min walk/60mins amble and you're there. to the right 45 mins and you'll reach reach Alcudia pins. Either way, grab a beer, ice-cream and head back again. Jeez, i wish i was back there now...
The beach is shallow, you can walk out 50/60 meters before you have to swim, great for young kids.
There are some great beach bars with reasonable priced beer and you can get a cheese pizza for €6 to tick you over till dinner.
Back at the hotel, Ice creams and beers are a little expensive, but the outside shop 30secs from the pool is cheaper. the hotel must realise this, why they don't drop their prices to match i don't know.
Free wi-fi in the bar, but €4 a day if you want it in your room.
The nearby waterpark is adequate, €22 adult, €15 for kids. Book beforehand in nearby car-rental type places and you can get a free bus to the park and back (only realised that this year - doh!!). Buy a ticket the day before so you can book the timeslot on the bus you want.
We always book a room with a bedroom for us and the kids have the sofa beds (they're more beds than sofas). They sleep like a log in them - i always have to crash around in the morning to wake them up. We seem to always get single beds in our bedroom so have to push them together. Air-con in the room is fine, there's always hot water, never had an issue in 5 years. There a safe you can hire in the room, but i've never bothered any year.
The TV isn't great but you're not there to watch tv. This year we had bbc 1 london and bbc world but i know it varies from room to room somehow...
The rooms are clean, though you can get the odd ant. you can have clean towels when you want, they'll replace if you leave in the bath. no cleaning on wed/sat but i think they still empty the kitchen bin. They mop the floor and make the beds - that's enough for me.

Wow, not sure what else to say now, no doubt we'll go back next year. I'm not sure we'll make 10 years like Billy below, either adults or kids will fancy a change before then but i know i'll miss it if i don't go...
Best wishes
Rob

I have just booked a holiday with this hotel beginning 19th sept, only after booking it did the company tell us we are getting a studio apartment that only has two sofa beds - not ideal as we are a couple!! Does anyone have the email address or phone number of the hotel so I can request a room with an actual bed for two people?

We booked a last minute 11 night break to Majorca and did lots of research to find a hotel to meet our criteria - kids club, family friendly, near to the beach, clean.
On booking we requested a quiet room - we were put in room 211 in lago park 2. None of us slept a wink all night - the noise from the road outside was relentless all night long - lorries, beeping horns, motorbikes. We wondered what we had come to!!
At 8am I went to reception to request a room on the other side of the hotel (at the front of the hotel on a quiet side road)... The staff were lovely/very apologetic and moved us straight away to a great corner room 220 overlooking the mountains to the front and pool to the side. It was spacious and had a double bed in the main room rather than twin beds. We enjoyed sitting on the balcony to drink when the chn were in bed/eat breakfast - very peaceful. We were really happy in this apartment and it was cleaned 5 days a week.
The beach near the hotel was amazing and we were there every morning - definitely a good location if you like family friendly beaches. There was no fight for sun beds around the pool, so even if we came back at 3pm we could still get beds. I have never been anywhere this relaxed before - it was nice not to have people getting up at silly O clock to put towels out... In fact most days at 9.30am the pool area was still empty!! (Although this changed slightly in our last few days when a couple of families arrived and started putting towels on their favourite spot!)

Our biggest disappointment was however the entertainment. We have 2 lively boys aged 7 and nearly 5. They had no interest in painting necklaces, making flower hear bands and sitting daintily in the shade colouring. Only once in our entire stay was there pool games for children (other days they "ran out of time because the painting took too long" or all activities were cancelled due to unplanned day off... We asked if they could join in adult volleyball or table tennis to keep them occupied, but the answer was no - our boys were so disappointed - as were we as we specifically chose the hotel for the children's entertainment!! ).... There was not a balance of art/craft and physical activities so if you are thinking that your children will be entertained enough to give you a chance to relax for an hour, think again unless you have young, calm, placid girls who like crafts!! In future we will pay extra to go back to hotels with decent kids programme of entertainment - thomson kids clubs for example. Also there are more staff so that it doesn't rely on one poor girl on her own.
In summary, you get what you pay for. This is a good budget hotel with a very laid back vibe, lovely staff and near to a beautiful beach. If you go expecting the standard of entertainment and child friendly activities that you get on a package holiday you will be disappointed.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front of the hotel in either building, but away from the very busy road that t...

Just returned from a lovely family holiday which was enhanced by the staff at this hotel. It's near a great beach and the atmosphere around the pool is perfect for families. Food was just what you'd expect from this type of hotel and on the whole we were pleased. The studio room was a little bijou for the 3 of us and had the weather forced is to stay in at any point we would have been tripping over each other. No maid service on Saturday or Wednesday and the bath was left dirty on other days meaning I had to clean it. I definitely would return but I'd upgrade the room next time!

We've just had a wonderful two-week holiday at Lago Park, and it was our first visit.
It's really a hotel for families. If you don't have children, you'll probably still enjoy it, but you'd probably be better elsewhere. We can honestly say we've had our best-ever holiday, and this hotel had a lot to do with it.
The location is excellent. It really is only 150m from the very best part of the local beach. Don't worry about crossing the Avenida Albufera on the way. It isn't a motorway: it's a very attractive boulevard lined with nice shops, horse-and-carriage rides, hotels and restaurants, and just where you need to cross, there's a zebra crossing where the already-slow and light traffic invariably stops to let families pass. Perfectly safe.
The rooms/apartments are 'basic' in the sense that they aren't opulently decorated, but they are clean (at least when you arrive), well-equipped and pleasant. I agree with an earlier reviewer - if you want five-star luxury, pay three times the price and go somewhere else. The apartments really are perfectly adequate for normal people; moaning minnies will always have some gripes.
We went for half-board. The restaurant is light and airy, with a pleasant atmosphere, and mealtimes are comfortable: breakfast is available till 10:30 and dinner till 21:30. You'll find that the cooks replenish both breakfast and dinner right up to the end of the session. That means you can actually go in at the last minute and find an abundance of freshly-cooked food, not just the old bits and pieces that nobody else wanted and have been hanging around in the bain-marie for two hours. And we always found at least six or seven tables free, even in the first fortnight of August when the hotel was full.
Breakfast is seriously good, far better than you'll find even in most business hotels, both in its quality and quantity, especially for those of us who enjoy a full English breakfast: something to look forward to every morning.
Dinner is also extremely good. Every evening there was at least one meat and one fish dish, as well as salads, and proper trimmings - chips or sauteed potatoes, plus mixed vegetables and things like stuffed aubergines, etc. As well as that, there are always cop-out options for children like ours (9 and 4 years old) who shirk at unfamiliar food, so there's always pizza, pasta, chips, chicken and potato croquettes, sausages, etc, too. All of these were very good too. It's the normal international cuisine, which probably suits the variety of nationalities among the guests, though occasionally there were also Spanish dishes. Don't miss the roasted pork ribs: they are sensational! Because the buffet area is quite small, there isn't a huge variety, but there's certainly enough variety for everyone, and there is no pushing or shoving to get at the food.
We decided that we 'd eventually visit a local restaurant in the avenue outside as soon as we got bored with the hotel food, but in two weeks we never did. There's just one downer: we're big ice-cream fans, and instead of tubs where you can scoop out the ice-cream you fancy, there are just individual yogurt-pot-style ice creams which don't even have the name of the flavour on top (you have to guess what it is by its colour) and they were already half-melted by the time the reached the table. I unfortunately mistook a brown one for chocolate, but it turned out to be either hazelnut or turrón, either way it was vile. Apart from that, the restaurant staff and manager are all polite, cheerful and attentive, and actually seem to enjoy being there with you.
I'd recommend a room in building 2: we asked for a quiet room and got room 2-101 which looked away from the pool and entertainment area and so was perfectly quiet all day and night. The adjacent lift was silent. We got an excellent night's sleep every time. But as for those who say the entertainments and hotel in general are noisy, all I can say is they were always over by 11:30pm or midnight, they were all 'nice' family shows rather than rowdy stuff, so I don't know what they're complaining about.
The only serious downside is that the room cleaning could be a lot better. They come in and do your room every day except Wednesday and Saturday (which in itself needs rectifying ASAP, it should be every day, I don't care what their internal management policy is) but we found that all they actually did was mop the floor and change the towels. The washbasin, bidet, bath, mirror and loo weren't cleaned more than once in the two weeks we stayed. Although a change of bed sheets was given to our kids once in our stay, my wife and I had the same sheets for the whole stay. Fair enough, in apartment accomodation you assume you'll have to do some cleaning/maintaining yourself, but this is the one thing in real need of improvement. If you don't mind keeping your bathroom reasonably clean yourself when you use it, no problem, but we expected better than this.
But oddly the best thing about Lago Park, in our opinion, was the other guests. Everyone seemed to be just nice, ordinary, unpretentious families like us. We're a British-Spanish family; others were German, French, Russian, Irish, Anglo-Asian, etc., and all seemed to rub along just fine despite the stereotypes. This is a rather delicate but (I think) very important point. We've stayed in several other supposedly more upmarket hotels in Mallorca where the other guests have been a real and constant nightmare and practically ruined our holiday: screaming rude Spanish brats and their comically conceited and inept parents all in permanent tantrum mode, Germans leaving towels on the sunbeds at 6am which they then don't use all day and elbowing everyone aside at the buffet, Russians being grossly rude and unfriendly to everyone as a matter of course, and Brits drunk as skunks and decorating the hotel balconies - theirs and ours - with their atrocious football towels and vomit (- these are genuine experiences of ours, not baseless prejudices), but none of this was happening at Lago Park. Everyone was just pleasant all the time and doing their own thing: a genuinely nice international family atmosphere. I hope the management decides to build on this and define Lago Park along these lines so that this lovely atmosphere is maintained; it really is one of their best assets.
All in all, a very good and value-for-money hotel indeed; we may well go back next year, and we'd recommend it warmly to anyone with young or early-teenage kids.

Room Tip: Just ask the receptionist for the type of room you want. The rooms in building 2 which look on to t...

Just returned from a 14 night stay in this hotel. The rooms are very basic, and in fact need updating. In fairness, they were cleaned meticulously almost every day and had all the usual kitchen basics you'd expect. Air con was a welcome relief from the 35 degrees at the poolside. The sofabed was not the best with pillows from about 10 years ago I'd say! TV (tiny portable!) had only German and Spanish chanels. The one thing that really let's this hotel down is the maintenance. Some sockets were not working and the light fitting was literally hanging loose from the ceiling. Our outside view would have been improved if all the broken chairs had been removed from the area.
Would I return? Probably yes, because although the hotel is a bit tired looking around the edges, the staff and location compensate for any negative things I've written. The pool was never very busy and there was plenty of entertainment laid on for the children and adults, darts, table-tennis, water polo, aqua-fit...and great variety family shows every night. Special mention to Saud who was great fun and worked so hard to include everyone in all the activites. As for location, the hotel was only a 2 minute walk from one of the most beautiful beaches you'll ever see. However, it is NOT in Alcudia as I thought when booking, but right at the beginning of Playa de Muro. This suited us well as there were lots of lovely well priced restaurants near by. All said and done, it's more than adequate if you're on a budget.

We stayed here for a week July/August!
First rooms we were given were very very small!
We upgraded for €15 per night to lago park || and it was much better I would recommend maybe emailing before you arrive to see if this is possible, breakfast was fine as expected plenty to eat.
The pool is very small but surprisingly never got busy, we always got a place to sit!
The animation team are amazing I just thought maybe they could of included a little more for older children.. My little boy is 8 and the kids crafts were too young for him and he wasn't allowed to partake in the adults.
We would stay again if we chose playa de muro in the future.
