“Quirky, fun, good food”

Not often does one meet a giant red stiletto driving up to a hotel and this rather sums up Broomhill. The location in the Devon country, but just outside Barnstaple, is delightful. The building is beautifully distressed. The rooms, while somewhat dated, are of a good size. The welcome form the husband and wife team was very warm – we arrived late after a long drive from Sussex and were made welcome with a glass of wine.
Of course, the art work and sculptures in and outside the hotel are a real feature and worth the (muddy when we were there) walk around the grounds.
The food – all hand prepared – was lovely and the breakfast rustic and welcoming.

We didn't actually stay at the Hotel overnight or eat in the resturaunt. But were invited to our friends wedding held at the premises with our 2 youngest children (2 and 6) not once did they get bored!. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble, food selection was superb from the vast selection of local and organic dishes. It also helped that it was a sunny day as we were also able to sit outside! You can relax inside within a tastefull resturaunt area, private dining room, or outside. Just to finish off there is an amazing art collection both inside, but most of all outside within the grounds of the woodland and valley with river gardens. Shame we didn't get to see the bedrooms. Our bride and groom friends did, will have to get feedback from them :)

This is a nice, relaxing and interesting (slightly different) spot to visit, even if you don't eat at the Terra Madre restaurant, which was the prime reason we went along following a family recommendation.
We were not disappointed, in particular my vegetarian partner who had an extensive choice of 3-4 dishes from each course.
The quality of the food was very good, although short of being excellent. Service was just right, polite and friendly whilst not being over (or under) done.
The set 3 course lunch is also exceptional value and if you buy the North Devon Journal there is a voucher for a further discount. (Remember to pre-book though to use this).
We shall return if we are back in this lovely spot.

It was my husbands 60th birthday and our 10th wedding anniversary. We were on holiday in Westward Ho! and I had found this hotel on the internet before we went so I booked lunch and afternoon tea. We had a great time, the food was excellent and the staff were very welcoming. We got there early and had a walk round the outdoor sculptures, free admission if you are eating there. A great location, so quiet and relaxing. After lunch we went to see more sculptures and the indoor art exhibition. We were the only ones for tea, but it had such a great selection and not boring sandwiches but lovely canape style savouries and lots of delicious cakes. A lovely day and we would thoroughly recommend it and the 3 course lunch is such a great price.

We hadn't stayed at Broomhill for more than three years but always enjoyed our time here and so returned for a two night break on the 7th and 8th of June. The hotel was every bit as good as we remembered and is well worth a visit.
The owners run the hotel and restaurant in an informal but very welcoming way with the help well trained and helpful staff. The emphasis now seems to be on 'a restaurant with rooms' and our room was large and well appointed and provided with a hospitality tray. The en suite was miniscule but had high quality fittings and the shower delivered lashings of hot water.
We ate in the restaurant on the first night. The menu is short but provides a varied choice and the food and service were excellent.
if you have any interest in art the Broomhill Art Hotel with the gallery and sculpture park will provide a welcome break in secluded surroundings.
