“Great stay!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 27, 2013

Bracken House is stunning, very rural and peaceful with the most beautiful views. The owners are very welcoming and went out of their way. Food was delicious and very locally sourced (mushrooms from the garden). Bedroom really comfortable and stocked with everything I needed. I made a little friend in the form of their Labrador pup who is one of the best behaved and cutest dogs I have met (except my own of course). Highly recommend, I only wish I had been staying on holiday and could have explored the area.

Steve an I have just returned from a wonderful three night stay at Bracken House.we arrived early one evening the weather was perfect and was instantly greeted by Guy the owner who is the most charming and kind host one could wish to meet.dinner with him and another guest was suggested and we were made to feel like valued house guests .it truly was a memorable experience the food was fabulas. Our room was gorgeous with antique furnishings and immaculate bedding with views second to non. We only met Guys wife briefly unfortunately as she had to go away to visit her sick father but she was equally kind and charming. Musn't for get lovely Lottie the dog a very well behaved lab who also treated us like long lost friends . All in all a most wonderful break. Perfect house ,perfect hosts all amongst some of Britains most stunning scenery, and we were lucky to experience perfect weather also. Don't hesitate to book you will love it.

Room Tip: We had large double with views to the estuary and beyond you won't be disapointed

Dear Steve and Lynda

Thank you so much for your wonderful review, I feel very humbled! Lottie thoroughly enjoyed your stay as well!! You were terribly lucky with the weather, as was Mike, and you saw the gardens and the wonderful unspoilt North Devon countryside at its best. We look forward to welcoming you both back here sometime in the future. Kind regards from us both. Guy.

I stayed here for a week at the end of which I was most reluctant to leave, having been treated almost like a friend of the family rather than as a paying guest! Guy and Sue were the friendliest of hosts, nothing was ever too much trouble, and I can wholeheartedly endorse all the previous positive comments. Suffice to say, for the ultimate country house experience, I can thoroughly recommend a stay at Bracken House.

Room Tip: The best views (which are quite stunning) are from the two first floor rooms.

We received an enthusiastic and friendly response to our enquiry for accommodation at short notice and a warm welcome on our arrival to Guy and Sue's very comfortable home. More care couldn't have been taken to look after us. Our room was extremely comfortable and equipped with tea-making facilities and fresh milk for the morning. It was very quiet and had a stunning view. We much enjoyed being able to have supper 'at home' and the rhubarb meringue pie was particular delicious using rhubarb fresh from the garden!

Thoroughly enjoyed a stay at Bracken House. We received a warm welcome from Guy and Sue who couldn't have been more helpful. Breakfast was excellent and the rooms comfortable. Beds were superb and the bathrooms have been refurbished to an extremely high standard this year. A big thumbs up and wholehearted recommendation.

Room Tip: The main double overlooks garden, countryside and (at an angle) the north Devon coast. It is also hu...

The welcome at Bracken House was really great - Guy and Sue made us very welcome in their home, especially over dinner! The evening meals were beautifully cooked, and breakfast was lovely, with home-made bread, beautifully served fruit salad - a choice of whatever you wanted. All meals are served in the lovely Georgian dining room. The house - including bedrooms, is full of really tasteful antiques. Surrounding Devon countryside beautiful, with lots of walks nearby. This is a family home and you feel truly a guest in it.
Well sign-posted too!

Room Tip: just tell Guy and Sue what you'd like and they've probably got it! (We slept in a very comfo...

Bratton Fleming was the hub of our overseas vacation. Bracken House provided a relaxing respite while researching local family history & visiting friends. Located across from the original parsonage, Bracken House sits adjacent to 'the glebe', a common garden area great for taking a morning stroll or walking pets. A walk to the center of town isn't far at all and the entrance to one of the public footpaths is a few dozen meters down the drive. The kids had a lot of fun exploring the grounds and seeing the horses.

We were a few minutes early for check-in but Guy was there making us feel at home before we even set foot across the threshold. The rooms were well furnished, clean and cozy. After getting settled we were greeted with afternoon tea & some lovely harp music. I'm embarrassed to admit that I thought the music was coming from a sound system but quickly discovered Susan playing an actual harp in the next room! After having dinner in town we returned to relax in the library where we found a few books & maps to look over.

Breakfast was delightful. Guy successfully pleased two normally fussy boys, and it was nice to see a well-cooked over-medium egg. Needless to say breakfast gave us the energy to disappear for the day and see the local sights. Although Devon experienced one of its most rainiest seasons we still had an enjoyable time staying in Bratton Fleming at the Bracken House.

Room Tip: We stayed in the upper front room which had a spectacular view facing south. Our two boys stayed in...
