We stayed here for four nights, our only stay in Sri Lanka as part of a wider honeymoon holiday. Apart from the views I do not have a single nice word to say about the stay.
The hotel is very old and outdated and no effort has been made to maintain it. The bathrooms are also very small and outdated. There were stains on bedsheets, curtains, sofas etc. They had mosquitoe nets with massive holes in it making them completely pointless. The sofa's were so worn down the material had completely frayed.
We had to change rooms on two occasions during our 4 day stay. In our initial room there was no hot water. Housekeeping tried fixing it for around 2hours. They left saying it was fixed and for the second time I had to stop mid shower as the hot water stops in under 2mins. Upon requesting another room we were told all equivalent rooms were busy and advised to use a separate room just to shower. In that room there was no cold water making showering impossible once again! Finally after making a fuss with the manager we were told we'd be upgraded to a deluxe suite from a junior suite (which was pointless as everything else was the same as a junior suite apart from having two double beds -pointless for a honeymoon couple!). Settled into this new room for an afternoon nap to wake up 2 hours later to find the room entirely flooded with water from the leaking ceiling! They are still trying to fix it as I write this. Following this we had another room change!
We stayed half board at this hotel, which was another big mistake! There is no change in variety with the buffet food whatsoever, and after two days of the same food we gave up and decided to try al a carte. No luck with this either, waited about 40mins for food which was eventually served cold and had to be sent back. Overall the service is appalling having to wait over 30mins simply for a cup of tea! Never at breakfast are you offered tea or coffee and when requested its a very long wait before you are served. They always seem to be in a big hurry to clear up tables (whilst you're in the middle of dinner sometimes) and hurry you up to sign the bill.
As people have mentioned previously the walls are extremely thin and you always end up waking very early as you can hear staff clean up, neighbouring guests conversations and phone calls and furniture moving in rooms above you. One of the nights there was very loud music playing constantly through out, waited till 12.30am before calling reception to complaint about it to be causally told there is a function going on and music will continue till 1.30am. This is not a hotel for relaxation.
On a positive note, on the last day, once our tour guide complained on our behalf we noticed minor impovements in the service and were offered a complimentary bottle of wine. However considering how our experience had been so bad it was not sufficient to appease us, especially considering the fact it was our honeymoon. We were desperate to leave and move onto our next location!
Rated as a four star hotel but expect a two star service. Never again!!!
