Description: The pleasure of Tuscany Fifteen elegant rooms and a gourmet restaurant made out an ancient oil-mill: that is La Chiusa, a characteristic and intimate place to stay in Montefollonico, a countryside guest house immersed into the Sienna province hills. We are in Tuscany , between Pienza and Montepulciano, on the ridge which divides Val D'Orcia and Crete Senesi. In the early 70's we pioneered to dedicate our lives to host in this part of the Tuscan countryside. We attended, several years later, the opening of the very firsts local guests houses and the rising of the Tuscan holidays as a must. Unconsciousness, determination or just by chance? We do not know exactly what led us up here. Without any doubt a common and unconditioned passion for scents and aromas, for the tasteful extra virgin olive oil, for Sangiovese wines, salami and cheese of our Siennese land together with the devotion for the ancient culinary learning handed down from mother to daughter as the old land cultivation techniques passed on from father to son. But what mainly spurred us on stepping forward was the confidence that people would soon or later certainly get back to appreciate simplicity and what our definition of hospitality is. Almost forty years later we are proud to say that we were right. Hospitality at La Chiusa not only means to open our house's doors to the guests, but to share with them our passion through the knowledge of our country.

A wonderful place for lunch, dinner, or anything. The wine, the food, the service is perfect!! We love this place.

Quite frankly, one of the best dining experiences anywhere.
We've stayed at a farmhouse in Montisi three times in the past 15 years. A friend recommended La Chiusa, about 25 minutes from Montisi. In 1998, the food was fantastic, the service superb, and the ambiance A-plus. Same for 2004. On this last visit, in Early September, I think everything was even better . . . if that's possible.
Four of us had lunch at one of the outside tables. Terrific views of southern Tuscany and Montepulciano. Terrific service by Jean-Paolo and Paolo. Terrific pici and truffles for me. The others had equally delicious plates; alas, I had too much good vino rosso de la casa to remember what they had. I DO remember that we ordered caramel ice cream and fruit flambé for dessert. Since we were sitting outside, we witnessed the lighting of the fruit in the kitchen. What a treat to meet Dania herself and her kitchen staff. A great topper to a marvelous afternoon.
So marvelous, in fact, that we returned for dinner about three days later. Gnocchi, ravioli, veal, and zucchini flowers stuffed with ricotta were all outstanding. Same great service, same ambiance. And even another invitation to visit the kitchen!
Yep, you'll pay a bit more here, but it's worth every Euro.

Based upon two friends recommendations, we recently dined at La Chiusa. Both of friends said that it was one of the best restaurants and dining experiences that they have ever had.
Our party of four had an excellent dining experience. Due to some circumstances, we only had
"starters" dishes, Pasta, and desserts... Their Mushroom soup was superb. All of us had
Papperdella Diana, so named after the owner. As world travelers, this Pasta dish, was one of the best Pasta dishes any of us has ever had. I would highly recommend it.
We would have loved to have tried some of their entrée selections (we heard their Lamb is one of the best ever), but frankly, we were stuffed from a late lunch We did try 2 different desserts, but thought they were just average. This is an expensive restaurant, so be prepared.
The owner, Diana came out and gave the two ladies in our party a hands on exoerience in making home made Pasta. It really was an educational treat and fun!, Diana is a class act. The staff of the restaurant also receive an A plus. Outstanding service and classy as well.

We first stumbled on La Chiusa a decade or so ago when we were driving around in Tuscany and kept seeing signs advertizing La Chiusa. We tromped in dressed in shorts and tourist gear and entered upon a little oasis of utter Italian elegance. We were about to leave, thinking we weren't quite decked out for something of this level, especially with small kids in tow, but the waiter immediately ran over, welcomed us into the dining room and Alberto and Dania proceeded to fuss over us and lavish on us one of the best meals we have ever had. I have since bought their cookbook and have been impressing guests ever since--even Italian foodies-- with my attempts at the simple elegance of Dania's cuisine, everything from perfectly textured panna cotta to pappardelle, stuffed zucchini flowers etc. We have been back about 5 times since and have stayed at their inn as well, which is equally memorable. They also arranged a little foodie tour for us, telling us the hidden gems in the area, ending up with the white truffle festival at San Giovanni D'Asso. Absolutely memorable.

I have been raving about the fare at La Chiusa for a decade now and each time I come I am never disappointed. The food is spectacular. To get this in the states will cost you double the price. If you enjoy food you will love La Chiusa. Dania is a gem. Her understanding of ingredient paring is exceptional. If you are a foodie you will absolutely love this. If you are not a foodie you will become one after a meal here. I have learned about more about real Italian wines here than anywhere else. Please go off the beaten track and find this treasure. You will not be disappointed.
