My family and I spent an evening at the beautiful Theva Residency last week. We stayed in a bright orange themed room, with lots of colour, fresh fruit, and free chocolates! We also met the wonderful owner/manager, Dhee, who chatted with us about the area and Sri Lankan culture.
It was a rainy day in Kandy, but the views from the Residency were beautiful and misty, and the food was delicious (we had the salmon main for dinner, and the Sri Lanka breakfast of hoppers and curry). All great. A perfect oasis just outside of Kandy!

Room Tip: Can highly recommend the orange room - beautiful views

I was at Theva with a friend for two nights. We booked a superior mountain view room. The view was lovely. The rooms were very comfortable. Amazing friendly staff. They did all they could to help us have a great stay. Lovely food. Overall such a lovely experience. Will definitely return to Theva.

We only had one night in Kandy which wasn't enough to do the town justice and certainly wasn't long enough at Theva. This is a delightful boutique hotel situated high above Kandy with superb views from our room and the terrace where we ate dinner and breakfast. I really liked the room with the quirky bath which was practically in the bedroom which gave the room a spa feel. Also the Spa Ceylon body wash and body lotion were gorgeous. Some matches would have been useful so that I could have lit the candles around the bath. My husband wasn't so sure about the room and would probably agree with another recent review that it was a bit sterile. We both agreed that the food was probably the best we had in Sri Lanka, and it made a welcome change to have breakfast cooked to order rather than the usual buffet breakfast. The staff were very friendly but also very professional, again I would say up with the best we experienced in Sri Lanka. Sadly we didn't even get to see the pool area - maybe next time.

My family and I were lucky enough to spend a night at Theva last week. The hotel is located in the hills just out of the hustle and bustle of Kandy, and the dining area's ample glass windows make it a great spot to enjoy a view of the rolling hills, even on a rainy day. Our room was bright and comfortable, with a lovely little balcony that provided the perfect spot for an afternoon read and nap.

By far the highlight of our time there was the pleasure of meeting and chatting with one of the hotel managers, Dee, who gave us an extremely entertaining and insightful insider on Sri Lankan culture, plus travel tips.

Also, the breakfast was A+! Our only regret was not spending a second night - but that's just another reason to go back. Couldn't recommend this place enough.

We knew absolutely nothing about THEVA when we arrived, as it had been recommended by a trusted family member. Our stay was blissful from start to finish, from the very first exotic and all-natural fruit juice served upon arrival! We definitely plan to return. Some highlights:

- warm, friendly, and attentive staff
- spectacular views, both from the room, pool, and restaurant area
- the cleanliness
- we loved the decor: classy, minimalist, creative, very inspiring and calming
- the design of the shower area of our room was amazing.
- loved the free 'silkenly' tea brand, available in the room. Certainly not your average free hotel tea.
- Spa Ceylon products in the rooms.

- everything that the chef created was both novel and delicious: you must try the 'sri lankan curry' (served in a completely fresh way, with 17 dishes served individually. We never expected this to be one of the best meals of the trip). The homemade sorbets and ice creams are spectacular, particularly the sorbets (made with exotic ingredients like tamarind, local olives, and lemongrass). I would come back for the sorbets alone, and that's no joke. And do try the award-winning cocktail made with arrack, passionfruit, and cardamom!

In a trip full of great hotels, one of the things that separated our THEVA experience was the fact that this is a hotel of only 15 rooms, and therefore one's experience is very private, intimate, and quietly peaceful. Congrats to the owners, manager, and staff.
