First of all we did not have a chambre d'hotes but we rented a gîte. We had rented 'Gîte pigeonnier'.

This gîte is huge and has space up to 9 people in 3 separate rooms. Two rooms have an own small bathroom with shower. The other room is a sort of attic (pigeonnier --> a dovecote) that is quite large but extremely hot in summer.

The area is very nice and has a very large swimming pool in a green garden.

Now the uncomfortable part. On the window tablets there was a lot of feces from bats which live in the small holes above the windows. I have no problem with bats but it's not a tastefull sight near a kitchen.

There were also a lot of mosquitos and keeping the windows closes was not an option because of the heat in summer. Wind was a fresh comfort. An easy solution for the owner would have been the placement of mosquito/fly screens.

There was no space to leave your groceries: no rackspace or cupboard. The kitchen was very small in this huge gîte. Much room for improvement there.

In the room you had to hold the shower in your hand, there was no handle to hang the shower. Which is awkward.

It seemed the gîte was divided in the early days. My guess it was a larger space before. Guests next door made a lot of noise in an unintentional manner. Walking on the old floor, stairs and closing doors made noise and kept us out of our sleep.

In short some positive notes:
- The pool area was really nice.
- The other gîtes seemed nicer but haven't checked and were all occupied
- Place is centrally located to visit nearby places as there are Banyuls-sur-Mer, Collioure, Leucate, Barcarès, Perpignan or even Carcassonne.

Negative:
- In short, this gîte is not worth the price.
- Feedback from 'dogyoungone' below is still applicable.

"i'm so happy"

This is the answer of my host from "gite pigeonnier" spending 2 weeks in Mas Bazan just after you.

Thanks ti you for your review. You notice a lot of positif thinks. Other point don't agree you.

For warm and mosquitos you have 2 solutions; 1/ live as spanish family (don't open the windows during the day or with the light) 2/know that in south of France in july the weather is hot and there are mosquitos.

My family [Parents, 2 daughters- all above 21] stayed in early June, 2012. Yes, it is basic, don't come expecting a luxury suite. But it was very nice- the breakfast delicious, we cooked in -in our little kitchenette- which was enjoyable after eating out for 6 nights in a row. We had jugs of local wine and fresh bread and cheese. Stayed two nights and used as home base while we toured Collioure and Banyuls - and visited local vineyards. It was perfect for us. Oh, and despite the last review, our beds were quite comfortable.

Room Tip: If you have 4 or more ask for the "apartment"- it is like an attached little aprtment with...

Stayed here year before last. We booked a "suite" that had two rooms. When we arrived, we were shown into what was essentially an old stable. I would imagine even horses might complain about its basic level of comfort. The rooms were small, dark, and stifling. The furniture was very basic. Looking around the two rooms and kitchenette, we spotted lots of cobwebs and dirt. The bathroom was similarly basic and old-fashioned. The bin hadn't been properly emptied of VERY personal items from the last occupants. There was no air conditioning and the window were very small with no mosquito screens in place. Therefore you had a choice- to nearly die of suffocation in the stifling July heat, or open the windows and be bitten alive by the many mosquitoes. For an incredibly unpleasant night we were charged around 130euros. We had a second night booked but we forfeited half our money and left. Definitely one of the most unpleasant places I've ever stayed.
