We stayed for 2 nights the first night including dinner. We were in one of the courtyard rooms as the main house does not have a lift for the disabled to reach floors in the house. Our room ( 27) was spacious and clean, although the shower cubicle is a bit on the small side for anyone on the larger side. No mobile signal which wasnt the end of the world and you can still call home via the landline. Food, excellent evening meal. The Cheesecake was to die for . Service in the dining room was a tad slow but whats the rush, your on a break and the food was well worth the wait. I have to say Roger is one of the most approachable owners we have ever had the pleasure to meet, all the time in the world for his (and Pinky's ) guests, not afraid of criticism and comments on how some things may be improved. They have only owned this hotel for just over a year and no one can run before they can walk, but we will definitely be back hopefully sooner then later to see the improvements that were underway whilst we were there.

We booked for a night away to celebrate my wife's birthday in the premium 4 poster room (room 3). The package was a 1 night stay with Dinner and breakfast.

The decor throughout the hotel is very dated and I felt that the bedroom was like sleeping in my Grandmas house. There was a very small TV with free view in the room which was very clean and the bed was very comfortable. Wifi was only available in the bar area.

Our meals were very good but we were charged a supplement for Steak which was not stated on the menu.

Overall, a nice break away but the lack of facilities and the dated decor mean that we will not return.

The hotel is very nice the grounds are lovely and we had a very nice spacious room.No7. The BIG problem is the service or lack of it.On our first evening having waited to be seated we then had to wait for a menu. When ordering our wine for dinner we were informed we could not have our first choice as the cellar was locked and he could not access it.To list the problems at breakfast would take to long as there were so many.Considering the cost the poor service spoiled the experiance

Room Tip: Room 7 corner over looking pond

We bought a 2-night break including dinner on the first night. The food was incredible, best cheescake I have ever had and told the chef so! Our courtyard room was quite small, but perfectly adequate and perfectly decorated and the space had been used to optimum effect. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and would benefit from some soft nighttime lighting so that they could be appreciated from the dining room. The place is clearly in the process of being renovated and the bar is welcoming and cosy. The dining room is perhaps still undergoing its transformation, but would benefit from some softer, more intimate lighting. One of the biggest assets of this hotel is the dedication of its staff, who are friendly, helpful and hard working. Good luck with this venture, we will certainly be visiting again.

Room Tip: Our room was in the courtyard, which had a lovely view and there is outdoor seating in the courtyard...

Just back from a four night break, more enjoyable than expected after reading some of the reviews on your site.
The setting of the hotel is lovely, the gardens and the lake complete with ducks and kingfisher are really nice.
We stayed in room 10, while the room it's self is on the small side it was comfortable but the two
steep steps up to the bathroom we feel are rather dangerous when using the bathroom in the middle of the night when half asleep!!!
The food was really good, we had dinner on two of the nights which we totally enjoyed, the service on the other hand can not be described in the same way, it was quite poor, breakfast one morning taking one and half hours we waited 15 minutes for order to be taken, it arrived 35 minutes later then 10 minutes later tea and toast, the girls did their best but only two staff for a full dining room, the food when it came was very enjoyable and of good quality.

Room Tip: Avoid room 10 bathroom floor 19 inch above level of bedroom floor, 2 very deep steps

The hotel is in a lovely secluded setting with duckpond, gardens, etc. and looks great. Other than that there's not much else going for it - restaurant service was poor - especially at breakfast where everyone was basically having a joke with each other about whether the food would arrive and if so, when ! It was the opposite in the evening - we booked for last orders (8.30pm) but were hurried in earlier, the food was average at best (including terrible crème brulee covered in uncooked sugar) then they couldn't wait to get us out and shut up shop.
Not all bad though, room (in the main house) pleasant enough if décor a bit dated, drinks prices in the bar OK. Urgently needs some attention to the restaurant/serving staff/chef then would be a lovely place to stay. Shame but won't be going back.

As usual excellent service and food. The Hotel is already comfortable and is at present undergoing an upgrade which will only enhance the experience of staying there. Beautiful surroundings and very peaceful. Even given crusts to feed the ducks! What more could you want.
