Maison d'hotes du Clos de la Rose
Reviewed October 11, 2013

This trip was a gift for me and it was really nice. Clos de la Rose was planned to be our hotel for 2 nights to visit the area of Champagne and a bit around. We have been in the Champagne already before, so Clos de la rose opened a new area for us. The hotel is charming, very friendly owner.
We took twice the dinner, once cold and once warm, and both was excellent, way beyond normal food you expect as a Table d'Hotes. Breakfast was also fresh and nice. Good coffee, fresh bread, fresh orange juice, lots of very good kinds of marmelade and a cheese. Really nice.
The house is old, but nicely renovated and prepared, in keeping all in really old style. So, don't expect anything new, but high quality and highly maintained old house and interior, very clean and prepared with lots of good taste - creating a really charming and romantic place - just impressive.
The onwers are helping with all you need, they adjusts time of dinner and breakfast as you like it - just enjoy the time.
Location is not directly inside the Champagne area, but very close to lots of small producers. To Epernay or Reims it is about an hour by car.

We stayed for five days this past month (June 2013) at the Clos de la Rose, a picturesquely set house and garden surrounded by stone walls. We arrived mid afternoon and were warmly greeted by Veronique, (our host) with an offer of a beverage served in a lovely garden. After we relaxed and finished our tea, Veronique showed us into the house. As you enter the door of this lovely 200 year old country house the living and dining area for guests are charmingly decorated in a French country manner. A beautiful winding staircase led to our room on the second floor. Our spacious room was beautifully appointed with large windows overlooking the garden and a superb bathroom. After settling in we sat back down in the living room with Veronique and her husband Brendan over a glass of wine and pleasant conversation. When we had a technical problem with our ipad, they quickly offered the assistance of their 14 year old son who rapidly solved our problem. We had asked in advance for dinner for that first night and the food was so good we decided to have dinner there for each of the five nights. Breakfast each morning consisted of meats, cheeses, croissants, breads, cereals freshly squeezed orange juice and some of the best home made jam we have ever had, we simply had to bring a jar home. Verinique also offered eggs if we wished. Veronique and Brendan offered suggestions on things to see in the area, answered the many question we asked and provided a very detailed map and many suggestions. When our GPS stopped working Veronique offered the use of her GPS for the remainder of our stay in France telling us we could simply mail it back to her when we had finished our vacation. The beautiful accommodations, the wonderful food and the warmth of the hosts made Clos de la Rose a truly memorable experience.

Room Tip: The location is rural, peaceful, and quiet, which is what we enjoyed, but the train station is 10 mi...

We stayed in Clos de la Rose the long weekend from 18-20 May 2013. The B&B is simply magnificent. Not only does it have a beautifully kept garden, its rooms and interiors are immaculate and very stylish and cosy. Véronique and Brendan welcomed us with a drink and where very helpful during the weekend to plan little excusions into the area. We went walking in the beautiful Marne Valley, went to Epernay (just about 45 mins drive away) to visit some of the champagne houses, and Véronique and Brendan recommended us a brilliant restaurant for one of our evenings.

The rooms in Clos de La Rose are wonderful, with stylish furniture, super comfy beds and an en suite bathroom. Make sure to try the Baron Fuenté champagne, their house drink in the mini bar. We ended up going to Baron-Fuenté and buying some of their gorgeous stuff. Clos de la Rose is also verrrry quiet at night, and you wake up to the soft sounds of zillions of birds. For us city dwellers, that meant sleeping like we never slept before.

And, finally, you should absolutely try Véronique and Brendan's food. Their breakfasts are delicious, and Véronique's home made jams are simply fantasic. We took a Sunday dinner at thirs as well, and they served us everything which is good in the region, including home made foie gras and a wonderful dessert.

If you want a quiet, stylish and relaxing getaway near Paris and the best of the champagne region, Clos de la Rose is the place you need to go.

My wife and I had the massive pleasure of staying at Véronique and Brendan's wonderful guesthouse whilst we were in France for a friend's wedding. As we were heavily involved in the wedding proceedings, having somewhere peaceful and comfortable to return to was such a massive joy. The house is beautiful - amazingly decorated, so very comfortable and welcoming. The room was marvellous! If I try and describe how good everything is, I'll run out of superlatives.
Breakfasts were excellent, the food was delicious, and dinner was even better. Amazing food, and we spent a brilliant evening in the company of some fantastic fellow travellers from Australia - (hello, if you're reading this!). Véronique is a talented cook - the food was marvellous.

It really was a pleasure and a joy to stay there. I can think of nothing I'd complain about. All in all, it was a hugely enjoyable and restful two nights - my only regret is that it was *only* two nights, as we comfortably could have stayed there much longer!

Unforgettable & wonderful.

Room Tip: There are only two rooms and one cottage - all of them are exquisite!

I don't want to write this review as I don't want anybody else to go the Clos de la Rose. I want it to remain my secret because it is simply incredible.

Veronique and Brendan have a beautiful country house that is furnished and decorated tastefully and with a personal touch. We spent two nights here. The room was bright, airy, relaxed, cosy and I can't remember the last time I've slept so well. Each night we ate Veronique's delicious four course dinners with local champagne and each morning she put on a superb candlelit breakfast. She even made us packed lunches to take with us on our day out. The surrounding area is quiet and we had a great day cycling around the area (beware of some steep hills!) and taking in the countryside.

Veronique and Brendan have struck the perfect balance between welcoming you into their home and letting you have free reign over the place. I didn't feel at any time that we were intruding into their family space.

A wonderful two nights that I won't forget.

The Clos de la Rose is a beautiful B+B which is in an area that is full of beauty and enchantment. The proprietors are wonderful people who made my wife and I feel perfectly at home, but were extremely respectful of our privacy. Brendan and Veronique were very helpful and their suggestions for restaurants and sites, as well as champagne houses, were right on the money. Veronique is a very talented cook and we enjoyed two great dinners at the B+B. The house and the rooms are very well maintained and reflect exactly what we expected for a home that was built over 150 years ago. I can't imagine why anyone would complain about the accommodations since we found them to be exceptional in quality. We travel extensively and our experience at Clos de la Rose was one of the best we have had anywhere in the world. We are already making plans to visit this incredible place next year.

Room Tip: We stayed in the largest room in the main house and it was perfect.
