We spent half of our honeymoon at La Mariposa. It is beautifully situated directly at the beach.

We booked a sunset apartment, which was equipped with a kitchen.
The apartment was clean and spacious and our terrace was only steps away from the beach. We had a rental car and La Mariposa was the perfect starting point to tour the south of the island, the Black Rier Gorges National Park, coloured earths, or La Vanille Crocodile park.

We also booked a Katamaran tour over the hotel reception, which was great. It was a full day tour with snorkelling and dolphin watching (we saw wales instead!!) and with all drinks and food included.

La Mariposa is the perfect hotel for a romantic getaway. Excellent value!!

Room Tip: Sunset apartment 1 is beautifully located directly at the beach.

We are a family of four adults who spent 3 nights at La Mariposa. We had two adjoining, fully-equipped, spacious apartments on the ground floor within a stone's throw of the wonderful, clean beach with a magnificent view towards the Le Morne mountain. The setting here (right on the beach, with beautiful gardens) is superb, the staff friendly, the breakfast excellent. What we liked was the freedom to do our own thing in the quiet atmosphere of a semi self-catering place without a noisy evening bar/dining room. The local supermarket is not far away, and, with our own hired car, we had the freedom to explore and find plenty of options for eating out. I highly recommend this place for visitors who don't like large hotels where everything is organised, but who like a quiet place, with high standards, where they can be independent.

Room Tip: Views are better from beach-facing and upstairs rooms, but the location is so close to the beach tha...

Together with friends, had such a great time, here, our apartment was in front row facing west, sunsets and Le Morne , super friendly and efficient staff, clean comfortable and well equipped apartments.
great breakfast , by the pool or to be enjoed on your own balcony
we had barbeques every night right on the equippement supplied on the beach and sat under that beautifull tree well into the night
the only downfall was, we did not have internet availibility for three days, most annoying as we all had some work to do , due to our business back home
Merci annabel and Dweena, I have recommended your spot to many friends and you will be seing some soon
One other observation, the beach right in front should perhaps be sweept daily, as some litter does wash up overnight. And there is too much of this on your beautifull island .

Room Tip: the sea facing ones up front, but all others have some sea views

Rented a house in La Preneuse through La Mariposa. Great hospitality, nice house with a beautiful garden and just a few meters from the beach!

We really enjoyed our 2 nights at this property at the end of a 3 week stay in Mauritius. We had a reasonably priced two bedroom unit (100 Euro) which was literally a stone's throw from the water. The unit was comfortable, clean and very suitable for young children. The property is run by a friendly and professional manager who was always very approachable. La Mariposa has a nice little pool for the kids, a delicious continental breakfast and a breathtaking view of the ocean and La Morne. If you are looking for a good value hotel in a stunning location, then you can't go past this one!

What a fantastic holiday we had off-the-beaten Track at the La Mariposa B&B in Tamarin, Black River on the East Coast.
Its a small, quaint hotel with about 15 rooms, all with a small kitchenette. This allowed us the freedom to choose when & what to eat, as eating out is pretty pricey. The local supermarket is a short walk away from the hotel so its an added advantage when you do want to get your own provisions. The rooms were serviced daily (except sundays), and a simple but delicious Continental breakfast provided, which gave us the feel of a hotel.
There is direct access onto a strip of beach which is pretty private and has some interesting snorkelling.

The staff were relaxed & friendly & I didnt feel like thier were a whole list of 'house rules' that had to be adhered to.

Highly recommended if you want to avoid the busy overpriced resorts of the North.
