We had initially planned to spend only two nights here, but swiftly added an extra night because we were so enamoured with Il Sole delle Rive. Maurizio and Maria have taken a tremendous amount of care to create a welcoming yet private retreat in the middle of the Piedmontese countryside. We were given great tips for restaurants (all were hits), hikes (right out the back door) and towns to visit. We borrowed bikes one day and braved the hills to find ourselves at the top of a stunning vista overlooking vineyards and hazelnut orchards. We were lucky enough to be cycling and hiking during cherry season…the trees seem to line every winding little road. There was plenty to do but one of the best parts of being at Il Sole delle Rive was feeling like there was no need to rush about. We spent relaxing afternoons on our balcony sipping red wine from a neighbouring vineyard and relaxing in the well kept yard. Maurizio and Maria are lovely people who pride themselves on sharing the wonders of the area with you. Our breakfasts consisted of eggs from a farm nearby; cheese from a neighbouring town; home made bread, jam, cake, compote, and yogurt; fresh fruit and cereal. It is, after all, the birthplace of the "slow food" movement. The rooms (there are only three) were lovely and each had access to a balcony. The beds were comfortable, the bathrooms clean and the decor a lovely collection of things from Maurizio and Maria's travels.

A few points:
1. If you are planning on being there on a weekend, be sure to make a reservation for more popular restaurants; they tend to fill up.
2. There is a hot tub but it was not full when we were there. Maurizio is more than happy to fill and heat it, so perhaps just ask in advance.
3. The internet did not seem to work on my Mac, but another couple at the B&B had no problem. Maurizio was more than happy to let us use his computer.
4. There is a dog, but he is very friendly.
5. You will need a car if you are going to stay here.

Bottom line: we thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Maurizio and Maria and would go back in a heartbeat. Great food, wine, scenery and people.

It is a Beautiful place to get away from everything. Me and my sister stayed for 2 nights at II Sole delle Rive in the month of April 2011 and we loved every minute of our stay.

The place is a 100 year old house which has been lovingly and tastefully done up by Maurizio. We stayed in the blue room which overlooked the garden and the road. The room was very clean.

The host Maurizio is very helpful and provided us all information for the places to look around. The breakfast is simple but extremely filling.I just loved the cake which Maria had baked.Maurizio also took us down to the local winery and showed us around.
They have a very big German sheperd Tommy which is very friendly :)

We were the first Indians to visit and stay there!! I would love to go back!

Back to reality after 2 outstanding nights at the Il Sole Delle Rive B&B. I simply can not praise this B&B strongly enough - its simply outstanding and highly recommended. Although a bit hidden, its a true gem that you rarely come across these days. Only 3 guest rooms so you are guaranteed a cosy and intimate atmosphere. Maurizio & Maria take very good care of you, serving custom made breakfast in the garden and providing tips and guidance for activities across Piemonte. Its not a question IF we will return, but simply when the next occasion will be. Ivar & Emilia, Eric & Irene

We spent 3 nights at Il Sole della Rive in July 2011 and it exceeded all our expectations. We have a toddler and so stayed in the B&B apartment (Grappolo d'uvo) and it was perfect for our needs and resulted in a really relaxing and enjoyable holiday.

The Accommodation
* The bedroom was a good size, bed was comfortable - not too hard, not too soft - and plenty of space for our belongings.
* The bathroom was immaculate (shower not bath) and our son loved playing wth the bidet!
* The kitchen/dinning room had everything we needed - table and chairs including high chair, electric hob, microwave, sink and fridge, the basic equipment (plates, saucepans, bottle opener, etc.), plus a complimentary half bottle of local wine.
Overall it was exactly what we wanted and was great to be able to put our son to bed and not have to sit in a dark room!

The B&B
* The breakfast was very nice - not amazingly substantial but you eat so much when in Italy you don't need a large breakfast.
* The garden was great. More-or-less enclosed with a big lawn to run around on. The hot tub was a real bonus and although you had to allow a couple of hours for it to heat up, it was a really nice touch.
* The owners, Maurizio and Maria, were really friendly and answered every question and did everything they could to make our stay perfect. Maurizio made us feel very welcome and offered us really useful advice on the best restaurants to go to (and booked us in), nice local walks, and arranged for us to do a wine tasting at a nearby vineyard.

The location
The B&B is just outside Sinio. You could walk to it but the road is narrow and we have a toddler so we drove everywhere. There are lovely views as the house is nestled in a picturesque valley. Sinio has a great restaurant and a little shop with all the basics. Everything is close here though as the villages are all 5+ minutes drive away.

The dog
The B&B has a massive german shepherd dog, Tommy. It is very friendly and didn't bark at all. However, it could be a bit overwhelming. My son loves dogs and Tommy just got so excited he was a bit too much because he was so huge compared to my son (who is 2) and we asked Maurizio to tie him up (which he happily did). The dog was no problem at all with the adults but if you are afraid of dogs then you might want to ask Maurizio to tie him up before you arrive!

Overall, we had a lovely stay at this B&B and loved the region. I would book a stay at the same B&B with no hesitation and if you had more people in your party you could book the normal B&B rooms as well but still have the advantage of a mini kitchen in the apartment as the rooms are all in the same part of the house. In addition, the longer you stay, the cheaper it is per night. I look forward to my next visit!

Room Tip: check out the website of the B&B to see the rooms
