Cascina Sant'Eufemia

Reviewed May 7, 2013

It was a pleasure to spend our break at Cascina Sant'Eufemia during April/May 2013. This accommodation is in a wonderful scenic location. Moreover it is close to picturesque villages, like Monforte D'Alba, Barolo, Serralunga D'Alba, Barbaresco...etc...It is also about 1.5 hr drive from Turin.

It was a pleasure to meet with Chiara and Paolo, and we enjoyed their company, both at breakfast and during the whole stay. It was nice to meet at the breakfast table, this made us feel more welcome, and feel more at ease. We felt tranquil that these persons were ready to genuinely help.

We found their suggestions on places to visit very helpful, as well as their list of restaurants in the area. I also enjoyed their lovely wines, and was really pleased to learn more on the world of wine through this stay. It was a pleasure also to learn on hazelnuts, which are also grown on this site. Thanks to Chiara's mother. I also found useful the booklets they provided on the towns we visited, and also the interesting books available for the visitors to read.

Our stay here was very rewarding, as not only we got to the explore beautiful sites nearby, and taste good local produce and wine, but we also got to make the acquaintance of genuine people who made our stay unique and unforgettable in its own way. Thanks to all the family at this agritourism, hope our paths will cross again soon. We hope to be able to return in the near future.

We returned to Sant"Eufenia in September 12 after a visit in 2010. All the complimetary reviews here are proof that the hosts are exceptional people. In looking back it was possible to question whether our wonderful recalled memories had been enlarged through the prism of time. However we returned with friends and had the joy seeing them discover the genuinely warm and unpretentious personailities of Chiara and Paolo and her parents and not forgetting the dogs and cat. The whole experience is so simple yet enriching.

Some tips:

Do's
Make sure you consult Chiara and Paolo about local must-see places and particularly dining
Definitely try as many of the local restaurants, trattorias etc as possible
If you are fit do the local hiking loop through fields and villages
Borrow the bikes or bring your own and take in the spectacular rolling Langhe scenery but be warned its hilly
Definitely drink as much of the local red wines, Nebbiolo, barbera and dolcetto but dont ignore the local white wines.
Arrive by car and be prepared to get around of your own accord - get coordinates for GPS to find the place
It's a working vineyard and farm so be aware that our hosts have work to do each day and have to fit that in around tending to your needs
A week is an ideal stay to allow you to visit a range of the local towns, villages wineries and dining experiences

Dont's:
Visit the wine tasting establishment in Barolo opposite the entrance to the Wine museum that has an inflated opinion of its own importance
Take any notice of the one poor report about this agri tourismo on TA because that person obviously has never been to Sant Eufemia

Many many thanks for your second review! You have written a sort of short guide about "What to do" and we can just share and approve of it! Just a note to point up what you have already said about wines: Barolo is the most famous wine produced in this area, and it is also the reason why many people decide to visit our region, but is not the only one! Piedmont is one of the most important wine area in the world (and not just in Italy) also thanks to the variety of wines produced by an innumerable smaller and bigger wineries, growing their own vines, producing their own grapes. Following the tradition but also the innovation of making wine process. Preserving a unique environment and landscape. Try to belive!!
PS: Paolo is waiting for you (for the third time!!) to have a CAPPUCCINO together after dinner :-)

We were lucky enough to accompany some friends on their return visit to Cascina Sant' Eufemia. Our expectations after hearing about the beautiful setting and the charming hosts were high but were exceeded on every level. I am full of admiration for how Chiara and Paolo make this such a wonderful experience for everyone in such a relaxed manner when they have so much to do and they work so tirelessly. Nothing was too much trouble from the delicious baking Chiara did every morning for breakfast to the valuable advice about where to go everyday and of course the best places to eat. Piedmont is an amazing area to visit for an authentic Italian experience in food and wine and staying with Chiara and Paolo made it an absolutely unique stay for us.

we are so happy every time our guests remark Piedmont is a beautiful, unique and authentic region! We are proud of our land: in few kilometers, from the Alps to the sea, you can find so many interesting things: big town and small medieval villages; castles and abbeys; shops and street market; very important museums;excellent food and extraordinary wines; a very changeble landscape; festival and celebrations; lots of opportunities to to do sport in any season... Nice place to live and to visit! We wait for you all!

When we called to make a reservation, they were already full, but Chiara did some creative rearranging and made it possible for us to stay. We had a great time. We really loved the space. Chiara and Paolo are super friendly and accommodating. We asked for restaurant recommendations in order to make some reservations before we arrived and Chiara sent us a list of their favorites. They were all wonderful. While we were there, they also gave good recommendations of towns to visit and places to see. The rooms are beautiful-one is fully handicap accessible which is unusual for Italian B&Bs. Having breakfast each morning with the other guests was a fun experience and everyone enjoyed each other’s company. Chiara made a special baked treat each morning and the self-serve breakfast was plentiful. The other reviews mention how it’s like being with family and Chiara & Paolo definitely make everyone feel that way. In fact while we were there they were planning a trip to the US to visit friends who they first met at their B&B. This is how they run their business-welcoming strangers into their home and becoming friends and family with them. We will return, perhaps in the spring, to enjoy their friendship and beautiful space again.

This morning we left Cascina Sant,Eufemia after staying four wonderful nights. A lot of great things have been written about Cascina Sant ' Eufemia and its all true. Chiara and Poalo are the connsumate hosts. This is a true Italian experience! One of the best things is the"joining of people" The guests staying, sit at the long table at breakfast sharing ideas and getting to know each other. Telling good palces to visit in Piedmont area. ( the breakfast is superb). This happened in the evening too.! We drank wine (and schnapps!) and laughed and altogether had a great time.
Chiara also organised a cooking experience for us in nearby Roddino, another highlight!
This is a working farm..lovely vineyards and sweeping views across the valley, great animals, excellent wine and fresh hazelnuts.
It is such a good place to stay. Good accommodation, great food, excellent company. Kia ora whanau..it was wonderful .We will meet again!!

We stayed at Cascina Sant' Eufemia for 8 nights in July and we highly recommend this place to others. It's true what you read on their webpage: You come as guests and leave as a friends. Chiara and Paolo are, as many before me has written, the perfect hosts and we enjoyed all the good talks we had with them and the others guests. They make you feel at home and are very helpful in organizing everything from grandmothers cooking classes in Sinio (a wonderful experience) to restaurant bookings. The yellow room was beautiful and spacious, the breakfast delicious and the view wonderful. I can't say enough about how much we enjoyed our stay here! Hopefully we will have the chance to return in the future to continue our talks, harvest grapes and learn to cook more italian dishes from the lovely ladies in Sinio. Thank you so much for sharing your beautiful place with us.

We stayed 4 nights in June at the farm of Chiara and Paolo and had a wonderful time there. We stayed in the blue room at the ground floor and had a nice terrace to relax. Chiara and Paolo were very wellcoming and each morning we had a nice chat with them during breakfast. Talking about breakfast. It was delicious. Each morning Chiara made home baked goodies for us. Absolutely nice. She gave us a lot of information about restaurants and things to do and see.
In the common area they have a TV set, so we talked about watching the European football game between Italy and Germany, but Chiara and Paolo invited us to go with them that night to see the game with friends of them. It became a cosy evening. And...Italy won the game.
There are 2 dogs and I think 5 cats living at the farm to. Although I am not a dog lover, I did not have any problem with them. The little dog loved to lie on my feet when sitting on the terrace. We became friends:-) And I loved the little cat Minù.
Leaving the farm, we took some bottles of wine with us and a bag of hazelnuts. Back home I made the best hazelnut cake ever. Since then my family loves me even more!
Thank you Chiara and Paolo, we had a wonderful time at your farm.
