Enjoyed our short stay at this lovely resort. The owner was able to arrange a short island tour for us, which we thoroughly enjoyed, going to the Bee farm for lunch (THOROUGHLY recommended!!), caves, church and Alona beach. Were we glad we did not book at the latter - lots of touristy shops/bars/karaoke/hotels.
Food was also good here. Do be aware that there is no beach here - we walked along to the little local one (about 5-10mins away) but it had quite a lot of litter when we visited. I did enjoy snorkelling from in front of the property - with a free loan of snorkel - lots of different coloured star fish in particular. It was also lovely to sit on the loungers overlooking the sea in front of the property. There are also 2 lovely swimming pools!
Only slight downside was the very laid back approach. Our planned short island trip was at least an hour later than we had been told(no real problem, but I could have gone snorkelling in the morning if I had known) and there wasn't always a wide selection of food available. This may have been because it had been the owners birthday just before we visited when there had been a party - so it may not necessarily be a common problem. All food was delicious anyway.
The rooms were lovely - clean with a tray for making drinks, large wardrobes, and excellent bathroom. There was also a TV, but as there was no reception, the owner had a large selection of DVDs to borrow, free of charge.
The property is very remote, so you need to be aware of this when booking, as you will be reliant on booking the hotel's transport to go anywhere.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing the sea. Some rooms are to the rear of the property and overlook a small garden, but not as nice as the sea facing ones.

What a beautiful resort away from the hustle and bustle of the more touristy ALONA!! I am so glad to have met Maryvelle and her staff and tasted the wonderful food that they served at La Pernela. I hope to stay much longer next time in this tranquil place. I could sit by the water which was just a few meters from our room for a long long time and enjoy the wonderful view.

My Russian girlfriend visited for the holidays and we brought her to Bohol. We love the resort and the personalized service of Maryvelle, owner-manager. We felt like we were visiting family.

The resort is a good area for snorkeling but if you want the white sand experience it is a 5min walk to a secluded spot. It is 15min drive to Alona beach which more commercialized.

I recommend la pernela to those who want peace and quiet but still close to the center. They also have swimming pools.

If you are looking for a non-touristy and quite place to relax, this is the spot! My bf and I stayed for 3days and 2 nights (although, we wished we stayed much much longer!)

After flying into Cebu and taking a very long morning ferry to Bohol, Maryvelle (Resort owner) personally picked my bf and and I up from the ferry dock. Tired and very hungry, we were ready to relax in the sun and have a nice meal. The drive from the dock to the Resort was less than 20min. The Resort is located off a main street through a bumpy rough dirt road. The moment Maryvelle pulled into the resort, it felt like an entirely different place. The resort is clean, beautiful, surroundings quiet, almost no one in sight (aside from passing by neighbors). For the first day, we had the whole resort to ourselves. Maryvelle was very friendly and served us amazingly delicious meals she cooked herself. (had requests that weren't on the menu too and she did her best to accommodate me!) Maryvelle made plans for us for next 2 days of sight seeing (I recommend checking the prices out at the tourist center at the airport or ferry dock first though), island hoping, romantic dinner, and massage.

After leaving La Pernela in Bohol and going to Boracay, it felt like a downgrade. I would love to go back again next time and stay much longer!! Thanks Maryvelle!!!!

Upon getting there, you will be surprised that a beautiful resort was hiding in a solitude place. We are warmly welcomed by Ate Vilma, a very nice woman who’s in charge in accompanying the visitors and Ms. Maryvelle, who perfected the hospitable manner that every resort owner must possess. The ambiance was awesome and very relaxing indeed. Different forms of relaxation that we experienced: homey room, beachfront gazebo, startling sunrise and sunset, very fine service and not to mention the savory dishes, especially the Pork Humba and Lemon Grass Chicken..yumm, we missed those dishes already! Overall rate to La Pernela, definitely 5 stars!

Consider La Pernela Beachfront Resort as your new comfort zone and enjoy the experience as much as we do.
