One night was not enough in this beautiful hotel. Congrats to Max and Pierre for what they have done. We hope to return.

Our first trip to the French countryside could not have had a better start than 3 days at Le Logis de Puygaty. We took the cottage which suited us perfectly. Beatifully restored and furnished with beautiful views from every window. Picture postcard setting complete with sheep, horses, donkeys and gheese running around. We loved the understated earthy tones and countryside quietness. Max and Pierre were charming hosts - I wish we could have stayed longer. A charming sophisticated accommodation choice for those looking to relax.

This place definitely has the wow factor. Driving down the track to this 15th century fortified farm you know that you will be staying somewhere very special. But you need more than a nice building to make a stay memorable and the soul of this place are your hosts Max and Pierre. Both came to meet us as we crunched onto the pathway gravel. We were offered a drink which came with a short history of how they came to be here. Their personalities are reflected in the restoration and furnishing - sophisticated, stylish and creative. Our room was an absolute delight and we wished we had booked for more than one night. Although we hadn't booked for dinner, Pierre announced "no problem" and we enjoyed a superb meal later that evening. They are courteous and helpful hosts giving us advice on local walks, places we should visit on our travels and some other hotel recommendations. We left after a delightful breakfast totally relaxed and revitalised by one of the best overnight stays we have ever enjoyed. It may be hard to find but it is really worth the effort.

Everything about this beautiful hideaway is perfect. Inside the imposing gates is a charming retreat run by the fantastic Max and Pierre, who make sure all your needs are met. Having restored the property they have managed to keep all the picture perfect features but with a contemporary twist. The rooms are fantastic and offer all the necessary amenities. Just a short ride away is a small village with places to eat, but dinner cooked by the two owners is a must (special mention for the duck). If you are after a quiet place to get away from it all, then this is definitely it. A walk round the property provides some stunning views of the French countryside and a chance to see some of the animals that are also residents. As good as it gets.

A truly beautiful French countryside manor house which has been tastefully and lovingly restored by owners and hosts Max and Pierre. Set in the stunning Charente countryside with its rolling farmland populated with vineyards and sunflower fields and lovely villages. Le Logis itself is located 2 miles down a single track road that adds to the anticipation on arriving and ensures a peaceful stay. We stayed in the Pierre room which was chic and stylishly designed- great bed - and en suite bathroom with fantastic 'rainfall' style shower head and hand carved basin made from a lump of stone. Nice touches in the room including Le Logis' very own chill out mix CD (now downloaded to my Itunes and listened to regularly!). We decided to take the option of dinner on our first night and we were not disappointed! The evening started with a great hand made cocktail the used local cognac and canapes then moved on to a superb three course meal. We would highly recommend dinner at Le Logis to any other guests. During the day Le Logis is tranquil, quiet and peaceful and you can do as little as you like. If we had one very minor criticism it would be that the swimming pool area has been lavished with the same TLC as the rest of Le Logis but I am sure that Max and Pierre have a grand plan for that too! It is worth mentioning the owners and hosts Pierre - the perfect host and chef - not intruding in anyway but super helpful, knowledgeable and inspiring and of course Max who's passion for the area is second to none and who went above and beyond to ensure we were happy with every aspect of our stay. All in all this is a fabulous destination for a chic luxurious retreat.

Le Logis de Puygaty is the ultimate way to experience the French countryside. From the moment you enter the front gate into the beautiful courtyard, you are transported to a different world. Max and Pierre have created a truly magical environment. This place is a retreat in every sense of the word - a stunning combination of old world charm impossibly integrated with modern amenties, with a sense of style you will find nowhere else.

Just about a 2 hour TGV ride from Paris, this property is surrounded by farms, forests and castles. The hosts are experts in the area and provided us with information on local attractions including churches, castles, wineries and even a photo exhibition in a nearby town while we were there. And they can recommend great restaurants as well. But don't even think about staying here without staying for a home-cooked meal. Make arrangements to stay for dinner...you'll love the food and you'll love the company.

I can't wait to return.

This old fortified manor has been very beautifully restored by the present owners and stands in its own very extensive grounds. It's absolutely idyllic, and the atmosphere friendly and extremely relaxed. We enjoyed a delicious dinner there, and an equally appetising breakfast the following morning. We shall certainly go again and stay for more than one night!
