Vale d'El Rei Hotel & Villas
Ranked #1 of 5 Hotels in Lagoa
Certificate of Excellence

Firstly i would like to say the staff at this hotel are excellent on the whole and go out of there way to help.We were half board and found the food very good with ample selections available and always hot :salad selections also very good. We stayed in Villa 13 and like the previous review we found it 'TIRED' but functional and clean. We did see a Superior Townhouse which was much better. The two pools are in my opinion small especially the pool to the back of the hotel and when in use by kids it was full.No use for a decent swim , more of a muck about , cool off. Both are also salt treated but not overly so.Didnt hire a car before going and so paid the price for one when i got there...definetly need one so book before you go.Shuttle bus always available and even when busy would do a second trip.To sum up i would say a nice Hotel , trying hard to please. It is isolated so a car is a must and teenage kids (mine) could get a little bored but a nice stay overall.

Room Tip: I know its for sleeping and showering but go for a superior townhouse over standard

Like the previous person, I have joined trip advisor specifically to write a review of this resort.
We stayed at the Vale D'El Rei for a week and came back home a few days ago. It was an absolute pleasure to stay there and it really can not be faulted in any way.
If you are looking for a peaceful and fabulous holiday in the Algarve then look no further. You will not be disappointed.
The service was outstanding. Staying half board, we enjoyed the buffet breakfast and dinner each day. The quality and range of food was excellent. The waiters could not have been more helpful or friendly.
Unlike other resorts you never have to worry about the swimming pool being full or struggle to find a sun lounger.
My family made use of a range of facilities. My wife and daughter especially enjoyed the relaxing massage treatments that are available. We all enjoyed being able to have access to the tennis court and also had a good time playing outdoor table tennis.
Evening entertainment is provided every couple of nights.
A couple of times we used the mini bus to go to nearby Carvoeiro. The bus also goes to the Marinha beach, however we never had an inclination to go there as we were more than content to bask in the sun within the beautiful resort itself.
Special mention to Ana, the assistant manager there, who took considerable time to chat with my family to ask our opinions as to how we were enjoying our holiday.
There is no doubt that all the staff take great pride is the service that they provide and great attention is given to detail.
Overall rating? Without any shadow of a doubt... 5 out of 5

I have joined tripadvisor specifically so that I can write a review about this fantastic hotel! I booked this hotel to stay with my mum to celebrate her birthday, as a surprise for my mum. The hotel was exceptional. The decor is minimalist/modern and we were greeted at reception by Susana who was very helpful. We were upgraded from a standard room to a superior town house which was AMAZING! It had 2 bedrooms with ensuite bathrooms and a large living room and dining room area. It had its own little garden and had sky TV in every room. The rooms were immaculately clean and the maids were superb. We went out for lunch and arrived back to find champagne on ice and a birthday cake for my mum. The attention to detail was fantastic and I have never been to a hotel where I've been made to feel so special. The spa was lovely as well.

This isnt really a hotel for children. Its a spa hotel in the middle of nowhere so perfect for relaxing. We enjoyed the food at the pool bar. There was a lot of choice (salads, burgers, sandwiches) for snacks and it wasnt overly expensive. Obviously you have to wait for the food to be cooked and it was cooked freshly so maybe that's why people feel there was a wait but we didnt experience this. The staff were busy but not moody. Breakfast was a good selection and very nice. The only thing which was not great was the evening buffet. It looked disappointing but we ate in the a la carte restaurant (Serenata) which was nice. There are places to eat nearby so there are alternative options.

I would stay here again no question!

We stayed self catering in a townhouse from 21 to 29 June 2013. Upon arrival the reception staff were very welcoming, helpful and polite. We stayed in villa no 13 which was slightly outdated internally but spacious and had everything we needed. The complex itself is very pretty with well kept gardens and beautiful flowers. The outside of each townhouse is very private also with a private balcony area for evening dining (we purchased a BBQ from the local supermarket fro 35 euros which we used quite a few times cooking a fabulous selection of meat also bought locally.

The pools are well looked after and we personally found that the children's pool which wasn't shallow was a lot warmer than the main pool so we spent our days relaxing around there and also visited local beaches as we hired a car from faro for the duration of our stay.

We ate a couple of times at the bar area and found the service to be prompt, efficient and we definitely had service with a smile.

All in all we had a lovely stay and would not hesitate to stay again.

Room Tip: I would upgrade to the superior next time as I believe these are the more modern rooms

Our first visit to Portugal. Went as a family of four, with two young children ages 3 and 1. On arrival we were upgraded from a suite to a townhouse. The townhouse was very spacious and more than adequate for our holiday needs. The only criticism on the accomodation would be the stair railings which were a bit dangerous for young children. They were horizontal and my 1 year old could easily have fallen through. We barricaded with cases to make a bit safer. All the townhouses are slightly different so this wasn't an issue in other ones.

We found the cleanliness to be of a high standard, the staff friendly and the atmosphere warm and welcoming. The area is beautiful, we had planned to hire a car, however, as this was our first trip there was plenty to discover only a short distance away from the hotel. We used the free shuttle bus and taxis. Would maybe hire a car next time to visit further afield.

The food was of good quality. The breakfasts in particular were delicious. We went half board but would consider bed and breakfast next time as there are so many nice restaurants to experience. I recommend Onze In Carveiro, and Bela Rosa behind the hotel Vale D'el Rei.

All in all we had a wonderful week and would not hesitate in visiting this hotel again.

We returned this year with our baby.

We had a townhouse this time which was lovely. It was spacious and clean and the garden we had at the back was beautiful. The bedrooms are large and both had an ensuite plus an extra bathroom downstairs!

We were half board and the food was nice. It was hot and freshly cooked, a few nights when it was busy we had to wait a while for it to be refreshed but the chef came down and apologised and said it was because he had to make it from fresh, I would prefer to wait for that than have reheated food!

The staff are excellent. On some days they were very busy and we had to wait a while to get served but whilst we were there a lot of new trainees started so I presume the hotel are addressing this problem.

Whilst we were there we had a few personal issues and the hotel went above and beyond their duties to help us, the kindness they showed us was very touching and we cannot thank them enough. Unlike Jet2 holidays who were extremely unhelpful.

The spa is amazing, Gracia is the best therapist we have ever been to, she has healing hands! The Jacuzzi and Sauna are lovely too, we had them to ourselves and it was bliss!

For the price you pay for a holiday here I think it is excellent value. The pool, gardens and hotel are all beautifully kept and we hope to return again.

Have just returned from 10 days of heaven, the hotel and grounds are beautifully maintained.
The staff on the whole are amazing and will go above and beyond to make your stay a pleasurable
Experience, ana at the pool bar is diamond with a big smile and warm welcome. The grounds are a complete shock at first so big and to me it was an oasis of peace from the grassed areas to watching for frogs and fish in the stream and large pond. If you go you have to try serenata al carte
Restaurant great food and attentive staff, the evening meal and breakfast food served at the pool terrace are varied and off good quality, great desserts. Will return to this little gem.
