We are staying in this hotel as I write this Having been assured by our travel agent that this was an amazing hotel !! I can only guess that their targets were well down on the date of booking !!!!
Best thing I can add to the January 2nd comments is defo won't be back ! Just to ad a few pointers
Having to get a piece of paper to book towels is weird. All inclusive ? You cannot order more than 1 starter off menu and I would agree the only place to eat and drink is the restaurant Will Not be back !! Defo

This hotel is described as four star, which in my opinion it definitely is not. The spa facilities probably push the star ratings up, therefore, if you are thinking of going to this hotel, remember that in all other respects, it is no more than a three star. The location is secluded on the riverside, which is great if you like quiet holidays but remember that a taxi, car hire or even train journey must be taken to any of the popular places such as Lagos, Portimao and albufera. We travelled yo Lagos by train which took less then half hour from Ferraguda station only 10minutes walk away and cost only 4.40 Euros for the return trip! Great value!!
The rooms were nice with a good shower and kitchen facilities although we went all inclusive and did not require to use the kitchen at all.
The food was a little hit send miss but the waiters , Hugo and Maria made up for the lack of choice by their helpfulness. The breakfast was buffet style with good choices but the hot drink dispenser did not provide the drinks that they purported to. They lacked taste! The fresh juices were watered down. The lunch and dinner a la cart menus remained unchanged throughout our 4 night stay, which was not a problem for us as we experienced the dishes that we wanted but I can imagine would get very tedious for guests staying longer than 5-6 days.
Some staff were very good such as Hugo and Maria but the others were lacking basic customer care skills and were not welcoming at all. For example, a guest that we got speaking to during our stay was injured during her stay at the hotel. Instead of ensuring that she got medical treatment, they were more concerned about the hotel liability.
As some previous reviews have said, there is definitely a smell that seems to be present at times but having walked in the town of Ferraguda, it is there as well and must come from the river. The smell lasts for a few hours and then there is nothing.
The hotel needs to provide the following facilities for me to consider staying there again:
A proper lounge area where you are able to mingle with other guests.
Some night entertainment as there is nothing to do there once dinner has been eaten.
Wi-fi internet access from all the rooms as they are currently all hard wired in the rooms.
A shuttle service to Portimao twice a day. The taxi ride takes no more than five minutes but this service should be provided by the hotel.
Change the menu more frequently.
Better staff behaviour towards guests.

Room Tip: Some rooms have a partial river view so try to get one of these.

We arrived late on xmas eve, check in was quick and our room was modern comfortable with a beautiful ensuite, we had a LCD TV which had ITV & ITV3 which was nice as we didn't miss the xmas tv. The food was very nice, breakfast was buffet style which was well cooked and plentiful, dinner was a small menu but with tasty starters, mains of pizza, pasta, salads etc and desserts. The evening menu was A la carte, it was pleasant enough with fish, steaks, chicken etc. The spa facilities were well used by myself and husband very relaxing with a heated indoor pool. You have to wear a shower cap in the pool area. The spa treatments were very expensive as a result we didn't have any. The staff were helpful and friendly especially Maria and Hugo! The only negative that I would say is that the hotel didn't change money for you and that there was no proper lounge/ bar area. The hotel is fairly new approx. 3 years, well decorated and in a pretty setting. I will return to the hotel later this year!

We stayed in a junior suite over Christmas. Accommodation very good, had a suite facing the courtyard, sheltered from the wind but no real view. The restaurant food was not up to 4 star quality. A limited menu, which didn't change whilst we were there. Special meal Christmas Eve and Christmas Lunch, traditional Portuguese fare including boiled fish, boiled cabbage and potatoes! The housekeeping staff were very good and cleaned our room every day. Had to remeber to put out sign on door handle to get this done. Location away from main beach area but Spa compensated for this. Had a wonderful hot stone massage at a special Christmas price. There is no lounge to sit in after the evening meal so only got to know people who ate at the same time as us. Had half board and visited the local Lidl store for lunch time food. Had a hire car for a day which let us see more. Hotel not far from the train station which is another way of getting around.
Would visit Portugal again but would stay somewhere else.

Lovely modern hotel, excellent a la carte dinning. Good for bird watching over the river we saw many flamingos and Spoonbills from our room.We will certainly return.a hire car would be useful for people with walking difficulties.
