We stayed here in late November, so quite out of season. We booked on a last minute site online for a cheap deal.
The trip from the airport to the hotel took quite a while - about 90mins but we did drop off 1 other couple on the way so it might be quicker direct.
On arrival to the hotel, the outside looked ok, could do with a lick of paint!
Staff were very friendly and we arrived before check in, but they got us into a room that was ready.
The room was lovely, had a balcony overlooking the pool, however a double room was 2 single beds pushed together, which we didn't like. The room was beautiful with a very nice bathroom, Tv with English channels, a fridge but no tea and coffee making facilities and a balcony. Our air-con didn't work but in November we didn't need it, we are unsure if it was faulty or set not too work for the season.
Our room was cleaned daily, although you did have to hang the sign on the door requesting this.
breakfast was a Buffett, good choice, 3 cooked items, lots of bread, cheese, ham and fruit.
We were not fully inclusive so didn't eat at the restaurant each night, we walked into Portimao - about 30min walk. The reception staff were not that helpful at suggesting places to eat other than their own restaurant but we found a few lovely restaurants about 30min walk away- the village inn & masala house (read the reviews on here) were very nice. On our final night we ate from the a la carte menu at the hotel, it was a chestnut based menu and very Portuguese. The food was nice, nothing to write home about but nothing particularly bad, but the atmosphere was terrible. There were 4 other couples eating with us and everyone was whispering, there was no background music, it felt a bit awkward, and there was only 1 waitress on.
Due the time of year we weren't using the outdoor pools, although they looked beautiful but spent a lot of time in the spa. The pool, sauna, steam room & jacuzzi were lovely. The spa made our holiday, very relaxing and just lovely. We didn't use the therapist while we were there however the prices looked reasonable and a wide choice of treatments. HOWEVER you must wear a swimming hat in the pool and jacuzzi, you can buy from the hotel but better to take your own.
The riverside hotel was lovely, we went for a short relaxing break and that is what we got, there was a slight smell at times from the river but nothing that noticeable, the room overall was lovely and we got good value for money. The hotel is in the middle of nowhere and you do need to be prepared to walk a distance, hire a car or get a taxi but that wasn't an issue for us. We would visit again and would recommend the hotel for a quiet relaxing break. Thank you for a lovely few days...!
