Punched in the post code (no luck) and then the address (no luck). Spent 2 hours trying to find this place going round and round in circles. In desperation called in at a police station only to be told this hotel was in the district of Parchal, not Lagoa. With that information punched in, we found the hotel within about 10 minutes. We assumed that Quinta Do Parchal was the street in Lagoa!!!!

Having said that, we thought the hotel was excellent as were the staff who were very polite and friendly and helpful at all times. Our bedroom was well equipped and the double bed very comfortable. We overlooked part of the river and the bathroom was luxurious. The food at dinner and breakfast was plentiful, well presented and tasty.

Had an excellent 8 night stay with my boyfriend-our first holiday together. We knew the hotel would be out of the way so bought a map and guide book in advance-came in very handy. Train station just around the corner to take you to lagos (4 euros return) and silves (3 euros return), bit of a walk to portimao shorter to ferragudo which is beautiful but not as lively. Hotel clean, friendly staff, excellent breakfast and spa but cold pool. Boat not running which was a real shame. Taxi to praia de rocha about 8-10 euros but that is much livelier with bars and restaurants all along the front. Recommend the kayak from lagos around the grottos and dolphin watching-very good trips. Electric bike rental is fantastic! Really had a lovely holiday.

Reading the other reviews I am begining to think I was at a different Hotel !!
Recently spent a week at this property and to say it was average is about as good as it gets.
Granted, we got poor weather but the hotel left a lot to be desired. the Staff at reception were fine but the bar staff are not switched on to customer requirements.Taking up to 10 minutes to serve a drink, you are nearly under a compliment for giving them business !! closing the bar at midnight bearing in mind we were effectively in the middle of nowhere and overcharging for drinks relative to outside the complex.I ordered a taxi to go to the casino one night which took 1 hour-- a full hour and when i hit the roof over their lack of customer care a taxi suddenly appeared.Trying to be objective, the rooms were fine, good bathrooms and very clean.
The Breakfast was good with plenty of choice but lunch was awful which we had on 2 occasions, the location of the hotel is too isolated which coupled with the aforementioned, we will not be back.

My wife and I spent two weeks all inclusive at the Riverside from 14 to 28 September and overall we thought it was brilliant. We asked by email several weeks before for a top floor river view and that's what we got. We arrived at 9.30pm and were told to leave our cases in a secure room and to get some dinner as the restaurant doesn't close until 10pm.

There are a lot of moans on Tripadvisor about the hotel being quiet with not much to do. I would have thought that with all the Tripadvisor reviews only idiots wouldn't know that this is a quiet location before they booked. We knew it was quiet and that was what we wanted.

The breakfasts are first class with all you can eat from a wide choice. If you are all inclusive you choose lunch from the snack a-la-carte menu which is amazing. Lovely salads, burgers, pasta, pizzas and hugh club sandwiches to name just a few.
The dinners were all buffet style with a different soup each night, some were lovely, some not so good and cold. There was always fish or chicken or some other meat, or pasta available (Carbonara was delicious) and again these were mostly good and tasty but sometimes not so good. Lets be fair, isn't this always the case with all inclusive? We could always find an alternative to enjoy. The all inclusive drinks are served from mid-day to midnight and you don't get piddly little measures of beer, you get a large one if you ask. If you are poolside you get a large carton not a thimble full. They have a full range of local spirits. Some are disgusting (as always) and some like the brandy are first class. They could do with a bigger bar or at least two barmen because the one barman does the drink orders for both the diners at the tables and the other guests, which can result in delays. All of the restaurant and bar staff were lovely, especially if you smile
and talk to them.
Our room was spacious with two single beds pushed together, a very large balcony, floor to ceiling windows and a beautiful bathroom with his and her sinks and a large walk-in shower. The lighting in the bathroom is subdued so you ladies will have problems doing your makeup. There isn't a mirror above the dressing table so you will need to take one. We had a slight problem with ants but that was because we left some dregs of cola in a carton. We bought some "Raid" and never had any more real issues.
The towels and bedding are changed regularly and the cleaning staff are brilliant.
The smell has been mentioned and it is quite strong some days but it only lasts a little while and you can't really smell it in your room or in the restaurant.
If you're staying self catering, there is a supermarket just down the road on the left. You can get everything you need there. Everyting from fresh fish, bread, cereals etc. Coke Zero is 1 euro 25, vino verde wine 1 euro 89 for a litre, cans of good beer for 45 cents.
We took a boat trip on the hotel's motor launch to the coastline and caves and it was incredible how our skipper manoeuvred the boat in and out of the caves. It was 25 euros each but if you made the same trip from Portamao you would have to pay for a taxi to get there first (assuming you didn't have a car) and you would never get into the caves in a large boat.
We intend to go back in June next year as we loved the Agua Riverside and we have stayed all inclusive in Cuba, Kenya, Greece, Egypt and elsewhere in Portugal.
It is quiet (no animation) and there is not much to do except relax and spoil yourselves, lovely!
I did, however, go to the gym every morning at 7.30am for an hours workout and I'm 69!

Room Tip: We had room 318B which overlooked the car park but gave us a lovely side river view and sunshine fro...

My friend and I have recently returned from our first holiday in the Algarve. The Hotel Agua is very modern, clean & spacious, on a par with Holiday Inn or Hilton I would say. Our first impression was that it was located in a very run down town with no restaurants or night life and no beach. the hotel is actually in Parchel, a 30-40 minute walk or 5 -10 minute taxi ride to ferraguedo or portamao. That's ok we thought we can use the transfer boat from the hotel to the beaches, the boat however had stopped running as it was now out of season, this was despite the hotel being full all week and it was only 23rd September. We arrived to find a double bed despite the booking being specifically for twin beds, however this was attended to promptly. there is no hairdryer or kettle, in the rooms, but you can request these from reception at no extra charge. We asked for an additional key and were informed there is only l key per room , difficult if you decide to go separate ways sometimes. We went bed and breakfast as we wanted to try out local dishes and restaurants and therefore needed a taxi each evening, which although quite reasonable at 5-6 euro's to ferraguedo, you wait about half an hour for a taxi back to the hotel, there is no taxi rank and the restaurant will very kindly order you a taxi. The restaurants in Ferraguedo serve beautiful food and the square is great for relaxing and people watching. The beach is about a 5-10minute walk from the town depending on whether the tide is in or out, there are a couple of good restaurants and café bars on the beach and the beach is just perfect. As for the Agua Riverside, its not In Ferraguedo, its ok if you have a car, or if all you are looking for is a business hotel, with no atmosphere, the outdoor swimming pool is cold and the indoor swimming pool is about 2 foot depth and small, so not really a swimming pool, I have to wonder if they own the taxi firm? . I will probably not go back to the Algarve, but if I did, I would rent a villa in the centre of ferrageudo itself, it is a lovely unspoilt little fishing village with good restaurants and beautiful beach.

Just arrived back from Riverside Hotel after a 7 day holiday with my boyfriend. After reading some of the reviews i was unsure of what to expect, i have to say the hotel was lovely, the room was spacious and very clean. We had breakfast included which was lovely, The only problem for us was the hotel was out of the way and we like to be around a bit more of a lively atmosphere. However taxis were great, so friendly and took us to the best places for what we were after. Aqua shopping centre was great, Praia de Roscha for Shopping lunch and the beach and Alvor for the night life, taxi cost about 10 euro each way to these places. When we did decide to stay at the hotel we spent most of the day in the indoor pool and spa which was a god send as it wasn't the best weather when we went. Overall had a fantastic holiday but because of the location of the hotel wouldn't stay there again.

Initially my impression of the hotel was very good. Hotel was clean and modern and the pool area lovely and relaxing. Myself and my boyfriend found the staff very welcoming and helpful, particularly those who worked behind the bar. Although, previous reviews had complained about the location, we really didn't find it a problem and I actually preferred that we were in a more authentic part of Portugal rather than your typical tourist resort. Plus, the nearby towns were only a short walk or taxi fare away! Initially, our only criticism was the food, which we found to be really bad. ( we were room only, so only had dinner and breakfast there).Overall though, we initially found the hotel to be very good and definitely worth of its 4 stars.

However, on day 3 or 4 my boyfriend and I returned from a day trip to find that his expensive shorts which had been hanging on the balcony to dry had vanished. Since we were on the ground floor I thought perhaps someone who had walked past might have stolen them, forgetting there was a 6 foot fence around the perimeter of the hotel that would have made it very difficult to do so. My boyfriend was adamant that they couldn't have been stolen, at least by a stranger, and went to the reception where he was told that they would inquire about it. We returned each day for the remainder of our holiday to be told a different story of what had happened to the shorts. Although the general gist was that they must have fallen off the balcony, the housekeepers had picked them up and brought them to reception, they then had been mixed up with the towels and sent to the laundry and the laundry had lost them. This was despite being originally told the laundry had found them and that they were waiting for them to be delivered. From the reaction and behavior of the staff the general gist was that this was all rubbish and that the shorts had been taken by a member of staff . The way the manager dealt with the situation was terrible, and very insincere, it was clear that he was just trying to fob us off until we left.

So all in all we left with very mixed feelings about the hotel!I However, if you are willing to take the risk I would recommend not spending too much time in Portimao our first impression was that this was the main town to go to but there really isn't too much to see there and the food there isn't very good. Instead head to Ferragudo which is an quaint upmarket fishing village. It's full of lovely restaurants and cafes ( in particular there was a really lovely Italian restaurant up a little side street just off the main square that we went too and definitely would recommend!) Plus, there is a beautiful little beach which are worth a visit.
