“A little piece of paradise”
Reviewed May 3, 2013

I recently came back from a stay at High Hope Estate and it is a beautiful place to stay. Everything about this place is wonderful. The views are breathtaking, Dennis, his wife and the staff are lovely and friendly and if you want some peace and relaxation this is the place to go. We stayed in the Hibiscus room which is fantastic. The sunset and sunrise was beautiful to watch from our room and along with the different birds singing in the treetops it truly felt like we were amongst a little piece of paradise. Thanks again Dennis.

We spent a week at High Hope Estates in late February and what an amazing time we had! Even two days of clouds and rain could not obscure the beauty and serenity of the estate. With nothing else to do, we played scrabble on the veranda in the rain, sipping cocktails - is there a better way to unwind and relax at the start of your vacation? The grounds are simply beautiful; flowers, trees and birds of every description abound! Loads of places to sit and relax and let all of the hustle and bustle of every day pass by. Dennis, Ludo and the staff of High Hope made us feel so welcomed, we almost felt like we were going home for a visit with family. We stayed in the Pineapple room, with our own private balcony that had wonderful views. It was comfortable and we felt safe and secure leaving our doors unlocked. The food is delightful, with so much choice! Amazing lobster risotto, Polenta and fish cooked in a variety of ways. Richie, Doret and Maureen took such good care of our needs and Dennis always made sure that we knew what was available for us to do, in terms of excursions if we so chose and we shared many interesting conversations with him. Of course we can't speak of the family without giving a special mention to Scooby-doo and Sheba, the family dogs and the cat who spent time with us on the veranda. Had an amazing walk into the town of St. Ann's Bay, where people were welcoming and we enjoyed a delicious patty from one of the patty shops. Two taxi drivers- Allo and O'Neil - were always available, at very short notice, to take us where we needed to go. We spent two relaxing days at Mammy Bay beach, we ate at Scotchies Jerk Center, went zip lining at Mystic Mountain; the view on the chair lift up is indescribably beautiful, and spent relaxing afternoons at the pool at High Hope sipping coconut water from freshly picked coconuts. We were treated to wonderful Jamaican food (thanks Richie and Doret) in honour of Jamaica Day - after listening to the primary school children singing and celebrating.
Our one regret was that our seven days flew by before we were ready to go home- we wished we could have stayed longer but no fear we will be back! We would, and have already, recommended High Hope to anyone who visits Jamaica.

We stayed at High Hope Estate for 1 week and got married whilst we were there! It was the perfect surrounding for a lovely day. We bought the wedding package which included our marriage certificate documents being arranged, the minister and two witnesses. We also had a wedding cake which tasted amazing and some bubbly! The owners and all the staff at High Hope were so helpful and a pleasure to spend the week with, we were sad to say goodbye.

The High Hope Estate is at the top of a very long windy hill so the view from the estate is outstanding and the surroundings are very peaceful, an ideal place to relax. Take your pick of where you decide to relax as there is a meditation hut, Gazebo, pool, hammock and various other seating spots.

We stayed in the Hibiscus room which had a veranda with a great view and the bed was very comfortable. There was always hot water for a shower too which i think is always a bonus!

Dennis was easy to make any arrangements with and has a vast knowledge of Jamaica for any questions you may have!

We will definitely stay here again and recommand HIgh Hope to anyone who is visiting Jamaica! :)

We stayed at High Hope for the last 2 nights of our holiday in Jamaica. It was the perfect place to relax before the journey home and to enjoy the beauty of Jamaica for the last time - especially within the amazing grounds of High Hope. We were so well looked after by Denis and Ludo and really enjoyed their company. Richie was a great host as well and his cocktails must be savoured to be believed. Our only regret was that our visit was so short!

Room Tip: The Rasta Room is the only available with twin beds but is very spacious and comfortable.

We stayed with 'Dennis' and his family at High Hope days after hurricane Sandy ripped through the island. Like many places on the island the estate was mopping up the mess which was left behind. Dennis was apologetic that his beloved High Hope wasn't looking it's best - to be honest it still looked incredible.

If you want to get off the tourist track and have a little adventure from the sterile world of 'all inclusive' this place gives you a flashback into quality tourism of yesteryear with real colonial charm. The food is also very good. Don't be put off by long and winding road up to High Hope - it's well worth the adventure. One tip Dennis - a bigger sign on your gates. It's easy to miss.

Room Tip: Upstairs rooms have the best view

Thank you for your kind comments. Hurricane Sandy did create a challenge for us....and, you. So, we can only hope to have such forgiving and accommodating guests as you the next time we feel the forces of a hurricane. It was a pleasure to meet you and you'll have a FREE night the next time you stay with us!

Our room with a mahogany four poster bed and a private balcony in the treetops overlooking the Caribbean was the perfect respite. The Estate has history, character, flora, fauna, and a wonderful staff. I made the reservations from Central America and Dennis was the epitome of efficiency, transforming my requests into a "made to order", "no problem" stay.
The highlight of our stay was a private cooking class given by Dosette. If you have ever visited Jamaica you know how important the crust is to the national staple of meat patties. Well,  Dosette showed us step by step how to make vegetarian patties that were exceptional with a crust so flavourful and flakey that I will be the envy of all  my friends if I can replicate it back at home. She also showed us how to make a gorgeous brown stew fish that we enjoyed for supper. (We loved the patties so much we ate them again for breakfast with ginger  pickapepper sauce)
Richard and Shoshonna were there to meet our every need; they also added depth and colour with their wealth of information about the local customs and food.
We had the extensive grounds all to ourself and the gardener of 20+ years gave us a private tour. Allo, the driver contracted for us by Dennis, picked us up right on time in Kingston and drove us to the property with a stop for lunch at Discovery Bay.
From start to finish our stay was a throwback to a time when people were pampered in lush surroundings ... And we loved it!

Room Tip: We loved the pineapple room. The tarragons, green parrots, and humming birds were free entertainment...
