Stayed at the Banyan for 3 nights on Honeymoon and what a perfect place to be. Beautiful rooms with private swimming pool (we had a "Sea View" room which had glimpses of the ocean over the top of trees). There is a private beach and bar / restaurant on the cliff top which does great cocktails as you sit watching the waves crash onto the shore. The food is good, but not michelin star. The staff were friendly and attentive without being overbearing. The only downsides were the main infinity pool was out of action and being used for a wedding for a day, which when you are paying top dollar (this was by far the most expensive place we stayed in Bali) is a bit cheeky. In fairness to the management they did give us a free spa treatment in return. There was also a few signs of wear in the hotel, but nothing serious that put you off the amazing location. Overall impressions: perfect for a romantic, luxury break when you want to really splash out.

Dear Henley_traveller375,
Thank you for your feedback and comments. It is appreciated. Yes, we did have a rather large wedding at the pool side and had to close it for decorations. I am truly sorry. Thank you once again for a fair and true representation of your stay at Banyan Tree Ungasan.
With best regards,

The Banyan Tree has always been my choice of brand if i have to search for hotels in Asia, and finally got a chance to stay on the one in Ungasan Bali for the first time for a friends wedding.
The check in processes, since it was a group was quick and great, although does not resemblance an up market villa type kind of check in. Anyway, we were escorted to the room very quick, and that was great.

The villa was spacious, even the garden is larger than most of the villa i have stayed and visit in Bali, but then again, the plant selections is a bit dull, as if i am staying in one of the 80's villa. We were placed in room 128, which almost of the left wing of the villa, where we dont have any view at all, just a bunch of trees, and we dont feel like staying in a cliff front villa. The finishing is also very mediocre for a USD 700 worth of villa/night. The pool was dirty, and we didnt even swim in the villa at all due to this. The amenities in the bathroom are very little, and nothing to be taken home as a souvenir, while if you want to take home the pouch will cost you something like USD 20. Hmm... not for me.

The breakfast was great, selections was varies, but then again the feel of the restaurant is also a bit old, although they only open for 3 years if i am not mistaken.

Not so many great public area to be enjoyed, the main pool is a bit plain, and even the lobby felt as if it does not have any energy.

I think this is because the villa area is so vast, so they are lacking in concentrating which area needs to be boasted up or merely just left as it is, but for a customer paying quite an extra bucks for it, i think they should do it to extra to the maximum.

Room Tip: Ask for a sea view hotel, otherwise you would feel like you can be somewhere else in the world and n...

Dear Prastita,
Thank you for your feedback and comments on your recent stay here at Banyan Tree Ungasan. I am very sorry that you found the hotel had an "old feel" and did not match your expectations. Indeed, you are right, the seaview villas have a better view than the others. I truly apologize for the fact that you found the pool lacking in cleanliness.
I do hope that you will visit the resort again and we will do our best to assign you a villa with a good view.

We stayed at the Banyan tree in April for our honeymoon and this was one of the best experiences we’ve had.

Food: Great local food at all the restaurants. Portions sizes were great and ambience of all restaurants. Ju.Ma.Na – menu was fantactic and the views were wonderful. Bambu – great buffet and breakfast. We had the in room BBQ one evening as a treat and it was without a doubt the best BBQ we have ever had!

Service: Best service I’ve ever experience on a resort. The service was personalised, everyone had a smile and were well trained in all facets of the hotel services.
Spa Treatment: We did the Royal Banyan and Balinese Treatments on separate days. Great variety of treatments, everything from the receptionist to the treatment to the refreshments was fantastic. They made us feel comfortable the whole time. Was a little pricey than I expected though.

Villas: The rooms were very spacious, well serviced and very comfortable. The outdoor area was enormous with the private swimming pool and spa. Views of the Indian Ocean was amazing.

Overall: 5 star resort with 5 star services. Definitely recommend it for a place to unwind and relax.

Having spent five nights in a Cliff Edge Villa at Banyan Tree Ungasan 2nd to 7th May 2013, we can only give praise to this amazing room. Our villa #219 was the best we have ever experienced and we did not want to leave...everything to do with the villa was beyond our expectations including the in room service, facilities and decor. We also enjoyed the spa facilities, although not the best we have experienced, but still very nice. The rest of the resort is lovely and matches the quality and service in the villa. The only disappointment was Ju Ma Na restaurant...although still nice, it did not live up to its previously claimed excellence as was as one of the best in Bali?...service was average and the building needs a bit of maintenance and has lost the ambiance that is depicted on the web site and magazine adds...however the villa is the place to be, and we can't rave about it enough...our recommendation would be to stay in this resort and have in-villa BBQ's & Dinners...but then visit Bulgari's Il Restorante for that special dinner!

Dear Trip Advisor member,
Thank you for the very gracious comments on your stay. I have taken note of your comments on JuMaNa restaurant and have highlighted your comments to both the Executive Cher and Dir. of Food & Beverage. We will certainly be aiming to improve on both product and service in this Restaurant. Once again Thank you.

Our villa was beautifully situated and tastefully decorated in keeping with Balinese surroundings. The villa pool was a delight to jump into with abandon and spontaneity. The food at the hotel is delicious. The grounds are immaculately kept. The service is warm, rich, friendly and not overbearing - just enough to make you think that there really are good people on this earth. And finally, the piece de la resistance - the magical cliff and beach below. Not since Tahiti have I been blown away by the pristine waters and the clean sandy beaches. Swimming is for the very experienced but on this day, there was enough calm and not too strong a current to body surf in crystal clean (!) waters. And a walk along the coast was also possible. This place took my breath away and I shall return.

A very relaxing retreat that located on the cliff, spacious villa for more than 1000 sq.ft. each. The pool in the villa is lovely as unlike others, it is not just a bigger tub which I can actually swim with privacy. The Jacuzzi is great but the water just evaporated quickly, we have to ask for water refill in the early morning. Dining options are very limited as there is no restaurant nearby the resort within walking distance. The renowned Ju.ma.na has changed its schedule to close on Monday starting from February 2013 which disappointed me quite a lot as I visited on the first Monday on Feb. We were given a discount coupon upon check-in but all options require 24 hours advance booking which is absolutely useless for one night stay guests like us. The private beach down the cliff is mainly for sun bathing and relaxing, not possible to swim as too rocky and no other water sport facilities at all, be sure you know that before u going down the three hundred steps stairway as no elevators / escalators could bring you up.
About food served at Bambu, my opinion is the raw materials are very fresh and of good quality, portion size is also perfect, but the cooking style and seasoning are of room for improvement.

Dear Frederick C,
My sincere and unreserved apologies for the shortfalls experienced. Yes, we began closing JuMaNa on Mondays starting February this year as this was the slowest day of the week and we took advantage of this day to carry out regular maintenence and deep cleaning.
Yes, you are absolutely right that the ocean by the beach is not a swimmable one and we do try to ensure that all our guests understand that we are a cliff edge resort.
I do hope that we will one day in the future still have the opportunity to receive you once more here at Banyan Tree Ungasan.

I love the hotel, the villa is so spacious, with a private pool and a Jacuzzi,
you can just open the bedroom door and directly jump to the pool.
this resort has 73 villas, no rooms, perfect to just spend your time to relax, enjoy the view, the pool and the villa.
hope you can keep up with maintaining the villa and the facilities, so it will always at top condition.
