“Great View average food”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 3, 2013

My wife and i had Lunch the location is spectacular the Pinot i had by the glass i had was good from there however the food was average i had the lamb rump which was ok but when i got my main course the snapper i left it all as it had no taste and not that fresh my wife had the barramundi and resotto also average. The ambience was also ruined by a group of japanesse in the mid 20 acting like a bunch of 7 year olds in the pool below i now this is not the fault of the hotel however they could of asked them to tone it down. We have eaten there a few years ago much better won't be going back.

Dear Robert

I am sorry to hear of your negative experience at di Mare restaurant on your last visit.
We have recently introduced a brand new menu to di Mare as well as our Karma Wellness Cuisine menu which was recently nominated for best menu in the 2013 Asia Spa Awards, so I do trust that we can invite you back to di Mare again in the future in order for you to sample our new culinary delights.

“Great location, beautiful food. 4.5 stars!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 14, 2013

My husband booked Di Mare last minute so we were unable to get a daytime meal so we had a evening meal there last night for my birthday. While it was amazing, it would definately be beneficial to have lunch or sunset to get the views. That being said it is still wonderful. The entrance to the hotel to get to the restaurant is amazing and adds to the feel of the night being "something special". While it was a brilliant night there were some little things not done (like they do at other places like Sarong, Warisan Restaurant which I thought Di Mare would be of this calibre from website menu and prices) that would have given it a higher rating.

We did the 5 course "surprise menu" degustation for $55 AUS a head which was very reasonable. We ended up with 3 more little extras (bread and EVOO & balsamic & dukah, an extra entree, complimentary coffee and sweet treats at the end) . My husband and I asked that we got different surprise menus which they did and gave us the opportunity to try lots of different things. Without going on about each course the highlights were the duck and beet root main (the jus was brilliant), citrus pannacotta (Devine), chocolate fondant w vanilla bean ice cream and both raw tuna dishes (do you think I can remember what they were called.... No). The staff were friendly and attentive.

The down sides were minor and didn't impact greatly on overall rating. Cocktails were lovely but not blow your socks off brilliant and quite over priced, even for Jimbaran prices. The bread did not come fresh from the oven like other places but was good. Our drinks arrived after our first entree which would have been better if we had a cocktail before we ate so is a minor issue and probably a training issue. Not every course was explained so we often were unsure of what we were eating but not a big deal as my husband and I enjoyed talking about each dish.

We are here during of peak so there was only 3 other tables in restaurant which was nice.

“Excellent view, good food, needs better service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed March 5, 2013 via mobile

Was choosing between Rock Bar at Di Mare cos both places had the view to die for but eventually I settled for Di Mare as the prices seemed more reasonable. The restaurant had an excellent view of the sea. Do make a reservation if you want to have a good seat facing the ocean directly but note that tables with the best views can only sit 2. Service wasn’t up to par for the price that you are paying and for a higher end restaurant in a more up market resort like this. The service staff seem to want to upsell more food and drinks so you spend more. They only present you with one menu but do ask for the bistro menu as the selection is wider and cheaper as well. Food was not too bad and of a decent portion so overall the experience was a good one. (If I don't let the service staff affect my mood)

“a billion dollar location but not the experience to match”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 6, 2013

I had been surfing the net looking at cliffedge food expriences when the karma Kandara resort was found and a stunning restaurant with a Italian name was spotted. This truly is an amazing location. A separate road is taken to the carpark outside the resorts temple, a walk done a stone lined pathway to a roof top bar and the panaromic view beholds. No bar staff in sight, so went to the restaurant to order cocktail. Great cocktail. From here the experience dropped below par, with smeared glass panels incased in aluminium joinery that could be opened without a hour to do the operation, no ceiling fans to push the warmth of the dining room around. The staff dressed in Balinese uniform didn't match the ambience of the dining experience. Staff were lovely enough but the image didn't fit the interior nor the Italian suggestion from the name that were about to recieve a Italian inspired menu with emphasis on the sea. One of the dishes ordered, a Yabby Tartar was later explained wasn't available and had to make a dish change; the sea bass was very old and had to b sent back and later stage still water from the jug was poured into a half glass of sparkling water. The staff did remedy this mistake with a tiny bottle of san pellegrino. The Banana tarte tatin was misspelt on the menu and the Dutch Ex Chef needs to represent dishes they are done. In this case a disc of puff pastry with 3 half finger banana's incased in hard candy. Not all what it should have been where it was unturned out of a cast iron pan, the bananas soaked with dark liquid caramel, the pastry crisp. The presentation of food from the early nineties. A wonderful wine cellar 'Veritas' and a stunning location. Go to the bar opposite the restaurant for a drink as your visit.
