The White Lion is a wonderful place to stay and it is no surprise that there are brown signs for it from the main road. It seems to be one of the only places to stay around that area and, as the village pub, it is definitely the beating heart of the area. We had chosen it because it's not far from Longleat, although it is very centrally located for many differnet towns, villages and attractions.
On arrival we were easily identified as the guests (as this is a proper local pub and most faces are known well there) and given a key to the room and also the side door and were able to come and go as we wished during our stay without having to go through the pub itself.
We stayed in the smaller of its 2 rooms - which is very diminutive but cosy nonetheless. The bed is wonderfully comfy and, best of all it is pitch black and quiet outside at night - ensuring a great night's sleep! Our room had a small en suite with a shower (the larger room has a full sized bathroom) and my only criticism of the place would be the shower which suffers quite badly (as many old buildings do) from black mould. Really they probably need to rip out the whole shower area and mould-proof it and start again to avoid this unsightly problem. However, this is understandbly a bit of an undertaking and the rest of the experience there more than made up for this one issue.
Both the food and drinks were excellent and fairly priced - far better than you would expect from a 'pub'. Breakfast was delicious and seemed to consist of local produce. The portions were great - enough to be filling and not need to eat for the rest of the day but not so much as to feel uncomfortably full. The dining room part of the pub is everything an old english inn should be with stone walls and floors, a mix of wooden furniture and plenty of candlelight and atmosphere. The walls and ceilings are wonky and disproportionate, the floorboards creak and the door hinges growl - it is exactly as a 300 year old pub should be! Even if your home nothing like this place, you intstantly feel as though you could get very comfy there. When you live in or near a city where the life and soul has been ripped out of pubs only to be replaced with the homogenised theme pubs, it's heartening to know that such places do still exist - even if you have to make a bit of a drive to get there. Well worth the trip.

Great place. Very welcoming, food and drink was excellent. We stayed over to choose a band for our wedding later this year and landed right in the middle of 'Cider Fest'. The people were friendly, the bands were varied and talented. Paul, the landloard was a star who dished up a cracking breakfast on very little sleep.
We will be back later this year.

We stayed here for a friends wedding and were thoroughly surprised at how great this little find was. It cost £50 to stay for the night including breakfast. The room we were in was quite small but had everything we needed including an en suite and a very comfortable bed. Homecooked fry up the next morning with friendly service throughout. Would love to go back to try the evening food as it looked a very friendly pub.

We visited Longleat for the day and stayed here for one night. The food, beer and wine in the pub are great. There was a fantastic atmosphere and lovely feel to the place, we only wish that we'd booked to eat in the restaurant... We stayed in the larger room, this is an old building so low ceilings and uneven floorboards with split level from bathroom to bedroom. The only bad thing I could say about this stay was the shower - there isn't one. Apart from that I would recommend to anyone. Breakfast was lovely! Loved this place.

PS. Mind your head on the beams from the bedrooms down to the restaurant!!!

This is a listed pub with 2 rooms above used for B&B. We stayed in the smaller room, which has an en-suite shower, and although the room is quite small, it's also cosy and has character. The room was cleaned to a very high standard each day (including fresh towels), tea and coffee facilities were provided in the room, and the full english breakfast was really good. It's also worth noting that the road outside the pub was quiet, and noise from the pub itself didn't seem to travel up to the room.

We chose this B&B because of its location (close to Longleat and very close to Stourhead) and because it was better value than most other B&Bs around the area. We were very happy with our stay and would definitely recommend - particularly to people looking for a good value, clean, friendly B&B close to Longleat, and with more character than a chain hotel.
