Malee's Nature Lovers Bungalows
Reviewed June 20, 2013

We stayed at Malees for an impromptu 2 day escape from Chiang Mai to Chiang Dao. From the minute we got there, our whole trip became more relaxing. It was very quiet in general due to the time of year, but Malees itself fosters a great sense of calm and peacefulness. Our bungalow was great, had everything we need, and despite the blistering heat outside, we slept perfectly comfortably with the fan.

Malee, her brother, and husband are delightful. Always available to help, but not at all pushy, they clearly take a lot of pride in their establishment as well as the profound beauty of the nature they are settled in. I highly recommend this place for couples, those traveling alone, or families with kids (they have a little jungle gym and a kid safe pool). We'll be back as soon as we can.

Room Tip: Honeymoon bungalow 7 is elevated, which helps for higher temperature days.

This is one place that will draw you back to, tranquil, quiet and with the most helpfull owners and staff. Mallee and Kurt are amazing they will take care for whatever you might need or want to do. The food is exceptionaly good and for orchid lovers there are roughly 600 different ones here, just to sit during the evenings and smell the scent from the flowers plus the sounds of the jungle is pure bliss. The rooms are spotless, in fact i can find no faults here. I always go to visit the nearby orphanage when i am in Chiang Dao at Mallees and she always organises it for me, all in all it is a tropical paradise with amazing walks and flowers, birds...ever so serene and peacefull, i find it hard to leave here.

Billy.

Excellent location to stay for birding this area. Great birding on the lodge grounds as well as surrounding areas and Doi Chiang Dao. Very comfortable lodging and very nice food. Especially love Malee's homemade bread! Malee's breakfasts were the best that we had in Thailand. Malee is also a friendly and kind person and we enjoyed our 5 day stay there. We also loved the salt water pool. Keep your eyes open for the Sunbirds that frequent the trees surrounding it.

Room Tip: The Honeymoon Suite was great and has a nice porch with hammock...a great way to relax after a day o...

Just spent a lovely three nights in a male bungalow.
Basic accommodation but charming. Secluded, peaceful location and surroundings. Great food and relaxed atmosphere sorry to have left could have spent longer. Very good location for bird watchers and people interested in wildlife but also a great location to unwind.
We had a very nice meal next door at Nest, though much more expensive.
Enjoy the walk to the Monastery and the nature trail taking in the bat cave.
Would return.
My only comment for four stars is the bed is a bit hard.

This was one of the most peaceful and relaxing places we stayed on our 26 days in Thailand. We spent 4 nights in honeymoon cabin #9 which had a nice balcony with a hammock and mountain view. We could bird watch and do yoga on the balcony, and there were many birds on the grounds. The walks to the nearby Buddhist Temples were easy and lovely. A trip up Chiang Dao Mountain is easily arranged by Malee. While we were there the other guests were fun to visit with during breakfast and while relaxing in the garden, and we found everyone to be very friendly. Food was good, Malee was helpful. Our only complaint would be that the bed in #9 was very hard...the hardest bed we slept on in Thailand. I heard from another guest that the beds in the more budget rooms were softer. All in all, am excellent stay.

We stayed in one of honeymoon bungalows (room number 9), large spacious, with fridge, hot shower and a private balcony. Being not big fans of cities and birdwatchers this was a great place for us. Very very quiet, plenty of good walks around the resort and pleasantly cool in the evenings, we did not even need the fan. Malee and her family were very friendly and had plenty of advice on the best places to go birdwatching and walking.

We ate all our meals at the attached restuarant which served great food inlcuding some Northern Thai dishes. The homemade wholemeal bread was delicious. as was the home roasted fresh Chiang Dao coffee.

We booked the truck and Uncle Buck to take us up to the DYK sub station in the wildlife sanctuary, the trip cost 2000THB not including permits, which we thought was good value and the same price as similar trips at Kaeng Krachan and elsewhere.

Malee's is not a five star resort, but we thought this was one of the best places we stayed at during our holiday in Thailand. Quiet, very friendly good food, great birdwatching and views.

Room Tip: Do not stay here if you want late night partys, but if you want to stay at quiet relaxed place on th...

Mallees is set on a decent size property with many bungalows. We stayed in a private bungalow with shared toilet and shower for 350 baht. The owners are friendly and can help out with bike hire, gear for climbing the doi and maps for the whole area. Chiang dao is full of birds and you can hear them chirping away very loudly. Big blankets are provided as it does get cold at night. Also the food is a little overpriced but still decent. Away from all noise and a great place to relax on the hammock or take a dip in the pool when the midday sun pokes its rays through the clouds.
