Really loved Chiang Dao, an hour from Chiang Mai. The village itself isn't so special, but nature around it amazing. Huts at Yang Tone Farm Stay are perfectly simple (no AC, wifi or tv) and affordable, and the couple running it are so sweet! I want to go back when it's mango season on the farm and stay for a while longer to really enjoy the calm of the place. Hot springs are very nearby. You can reach quite a few places with a bicycle (free use from the farm), scooter might be a little easier! Dont forget to go up to wat tam pha phlong (temple) to hang out with the monks and enjoy the birdsong concert :)

Yang Tone Farm is about an hours drive north of Chiang Mai on the edge of the Chiang Dao National Park. It is nestled in some heavily forested mountains, in a very picturesque setting. The accommodation is a series of huts that are clean and practical. The grounds are open, neat and spacious. There is a family style restaurant that has a very wide menu and good Thai beer. It is run by a young couple, Tong and Pepsi, who are super relaxed and friendly. There is a large central area where a huge campfire burns at night. It is a family farm with commercial fruits: Rambutan, Mango, Long Gong and Rubber trees and a selection of non-commercial fruits: Lychee, Rose Apple, Coffee tree, Guava, Star Fruit, Banana, Papaya, Avocado, Macadamia nuts, vegetables, herbs etc. In the lush family gardens you will see wild orchids, roses, and a selection of tropical flowers. I felt completely at home and welcome on my visit, and I made friends with the owners. I recommend it as a place to use as a base to explore the parks, go hiking or take a break from the rigours of touring.

We spent two great nights on this awesome farm. The setting is spectacular, the farm is quiet and gorgeous. You can lie in a hammock outside your bungalow or walk amongst the mango trees. The restaurant is delicious, offering a variety of homemade thai dishes cooked to order. There are free bikes to use to get around, but you'll probably want to have a motorbike or car to get around, especially at night. I wish this place had wifi, but it's not that big of a deal.

The bungalows are very comfortable. Very dean, excellent shower, comfortable bed, and they are well spaced from each other for privacy. The owners are a great, friendly couple which adds to the charm. Makes for a great trip to northern Thailand.

Yang Tone is tucked away from the main guest house area of Chaing Dao and has the BEST views of Chaing Dao mountain in town. The new owners, Pepsi and her husband have their heart invested in this beautiful property which belonged to their parents. The bungalows are comforable and well fitted out , each one is a little different, all have verandah and are surrounded by beautiful orchard trees. There is a small creek running up the back of the property which is great to explore and great for kids. There are also some bungalows along the creeks edge. The very best part of Yang Tone Farm Stay is the friendly, happy and hospitable staff and owners who go out of their way to make you feel welcome. We will always come back and are looking forward to being at YangTone during the fruit picking season mid year.

Room Tip: We liked the bungalows facing the mountain around the campfire area. The Bungalow beside the creek u...

For those wishing a calming nature experience and appreciating simplicity- no TV's, no phone and no Wifi... Yangtone Farmstay is a delight amidst the fruit orchards. This is not about being in a resort facility- just enjoy some time to disconnect and simply be in the present moment. The owners are very friendly and helpful to arrange bicycles or to trek up the beautiful Chiang Dao mountain with a local guide. This mountain is a very sacred place and at night you will feel the energy of a million stars in the sky. Nearby Yangtone are lovely streams, hotsprings and the caves to explore. Very easy trip from Chiang Mai- just 1.5 hours by bus or van and a nice loop to do on the way to or from Chiang Rai via Thaton.
I look forward to returning to Yangtone Farmstay again!

This place was awesome.

At first when you drive through the country side you wander how far back in the woods is this place? But when you see it, the incredible orchids, and meet the owner you will know it's the right place to be.

The cottages are simple, natural, and in harmony with their surroundings. The outdoor bathrooms are cool with the concerte floor covered with small smooth stones. The fan was more than enough to sleep well, with air conditioning you would need a goose filled cover to stay warm in cool temperatures.

The tour of the orchids was really interesting to see how fruits like mango, papya, and leeche are grown. Never thought you had to put bags on each mango fruit on the tree to keep the fruit free of bugs and nice looking.

The owner, Suvit, is a really interesting man to talk to. He has plenty to tell about the local plants, flowers, and vegitation. Spend some time with him and you'll learn a lot!

A highly recommened place to spend 3 or 4 days!!!!
